I remember my first pair of cleats; they were a pair of black Nikes with a red swoosh and I put so many hours and games on those boots. The one thing I always hated was by the end of a match or practice when I take them off my feet felt like they could breath for the first time. These phantoms are nothing like that pair of cleats from over twelve years ago. The first time I put these on I marveled at how light they felt and how far cleats have come in this last decade. I love the lace system on these. Super easy to get on yet felt secure. I absolutely love the fly knit uppers, the cleats are so light that they truly make you think your are barely wearing anything. The only reason I took a star off was the fact that these run slim. First off, I love this shoe! I was initially concerned with the sizing but as you wear the shoe it begins to conform perfectly to the foot. Granted the lockdown on the shoe is done with an elastic shroud, if you want a tighter fit, there are laces under the elastic shroud to give a tighter fit if needed. The versatility in locking the foot down with the elastic and the laces is a great touch. The heel is properly supported with a decently padded heel cup that doesn’t cause and rubbing but further locks your foot in the shoe once you get it on. The shoe can be a little tough getting your foot in but that’s an easy fix by making sure you’re putting the shoe on with a very grippy surface like grass. Sizing wise, it’s interesting since the upper is a laminated Flyknit ... MoreFirst off, I love this shoe! However, if you have a wide foot, this shoe is made very narrow. If you have a narrow foot, true to size is perfect. Even a medium width foot you’ll be alright true to size. If you have a wide foot, size up at least a half size. Sock thickness also plays a part too. The Phantom Ultra is probably is the closest boot I can think of that even compares in performance.They are a little tough to get on, but the multiknit upper is very soft and provides some excellent comfort. I also like the swirly striped design details that divide the flyknit and gripknit fabrics. And the gripknit is super effective - I get better touch and extra control without it feeling sticky.
