Nikka From The Barrel is a blended whisky which was released in 1985. The development of this expression started with an aim to deliver full flavours and richness of whisky like "from the barrel", which only blenders can sniff and taste. The secret behind its gorgeous flavour is the unique combination of complex blending, higher ABV 51.4% and "marriage" process. The iconic square bottle reflects its concept "a small block of whisky" and embodies the intense and rich flavours of the whisky inside. Long after its launch, this bottle is still timeless and recognized for its ultimate simplicity. The complex formula is created by blending more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies. After blending, the whisky is filled into used barrels and matured for another few months. This "marriage" process harmonizes all components in the formula, resulting in a mellow taste. Bottling is controlled at 51.4% ABV, that Nikka blenders determined through repeated experiments to achieve the ideal taste profile.

My first thought on my first taste of this was, “I gotta get more of this!”Great mouthfeel with the most prominent note being butterscotch with a ton of complexity underneath. Definitely a whiskey to sit with and take your time.

As a predominately scotch lover this is a great change of pace at an exceptional value. Sweet and floral on the nose was expecting more bite out of an essentially cask strength whiskey. Taste is a complex yet very balanced honey sweetness, citrus and pepper. Not a long finish but it's balance is to me it's key element. Highly recommended purchase. Uptown is exceptional on prices and careful packaging. Can't go wrong with Uptown or Nikka FTB.

For me this is the best value Japanese Whisky you can buy. Yes its not 'true Japanese' but I enjoy this one more than Ben Nevis which is the Scotch Whisky they 'taint' the Japanese spirit with.Is it as good as say a Yamazaki 12yo or Hibiki? No but it costs just under half the price of Hibiki Harmony and Harmony is nowhere near being twice as good.If you haven't tried this one it is definitely worth it.Cheap enough to justify as a daily drinker but good enough to offer to guests.

I've had people tell me this isn't a "genuine" Japanese whisky, because it's blended with some scotch whisky. Nobody seems to know the percentage of "tainting" that is done. That being said, this is a robust entry into what resellers consider Japanese whisky. It has a floral nose, with a touch of sweetness. That carries over to the palate, where there is a delicious blend of floral and honeyed sweetness, that provides a lasting sweet finish.
The Bottle Haus recently shipped me a bottle of Nikka From The Barrel. This was my first Japanese Whiskey ever. The shopping operation was very straightforward and the web page is very user friendly. I was kept informed about the status of my order including the arrival of it. As far a the taste of the Whiskey: I love it! It gives you a very smooth and subtle fruity flavor on your palate. I will get more of this Whiskey in the future and I will get it through The Bottle Haus. I highly recommend it.
Good little staple whisky.I can use it with cocktails, coffee and even an after dinner drop.So good I ran out and replaced my staple. It's not thought provoking or complex, its just a yummy good little whisky.
I impressed my boss with this Whisky. I bought Nikka from the Barrel for his bday. He is very particular and I've been warned that buying him Whisky was risky. My boss normally drinks Chivas Regal or Dimple, Once he tasted it he was happily surprised. He said that this is something he would definitely purchase again and would want to bring into the office to display and show off the bottle.
i was excited to purchase this but now having received itI find it underwhelming.I expected , like most of the Japanese whiskies that it would be a lot smoother than it is.A bit of a burn to the throat instead of a chance to savour the coating of the mouth.I think it would suit a different drinker to me ( late Sixties) as i constantly look for tastes to appeal to my palate
We had high hopes for Nikka as we were looking for something a bit more refined than what we were buying from our usual haunts. However, it seemed neither timeless (per the description) or particularly classic. As a shot or neat in a glass, it had a medicinal quality that I truly attempt to avoid. I was able to do so by using it only making mixed drinks with it. We love the bottle, but won't be buying again at this price point.
The delivery was smooth. It took about 3 days to reach my place at the east coast. Transaction over the website is easy with tracking status updated automatically. Packaging quality is awesome as well. The bottle received in good condition.Nikka is smooth blended Japanese whiskey with a slight spicy kick at the after taste. I would recommend this to Japanese whiskey newcomer. If I am going for a party, Nikka from the barrel is my choice for sharing with the common crowd. It goes well with ice.
