I researched cameras for about 3 months, experts say go with dslr, till you add the price of lenses it gets way out of hand & to carry & change lens. I am no expert, but I love the portability of this camera. Use it for wildlife photography mainly. pictures are 1st time using it. I have a lot to learn but could not be more pleased with it. Takes quick shots no long setup on auto. I don't know if I will use all of accessories, they seem like fine quality. I use the bag that comes with for Camera, extra batteries & filters. Put other gear in a separate bag to leave in vehicle. Also, Great Seller A++++

I will preface this review by stating that I shoot RAW and Manual. I've been shooting like this for years with a DSLR and a mirrorless, so it's a matter of habit, as well as me being happier with the pictures. I've put this camera on Auto ISO, 100 to 3200, something I haven't done before. The sensor seems to adjust the ISO perfectly most of the time. It also has excellent vibration control. I'm quite happy with the one video I took. My other videos with other cameras jumped all over the place. Let's face it, I'm not a videographer. What I don't like is that the camera doesn't show me battery level. It's got the little icon, it always shows the battery as full. Maybe it's just my camera. I carry a charged spare. Also, watch where your hands are, or you might be stopping the lens from extending fully (if they are touching the controls on the left side of the camera), or you might accidentally put it in manual focus (why isn't this darned thing focusing?)

After trying two other bridge cameras (Sony, excellent but complicated menus & controls; Panasonic Lumix DC FZ80?.ok but did not quite fit my needs)this Nikon P950 will probably be a keeper?..easy to use (on line videos help), great zoom, heavier than the other two but way lighter than a dslr and long zoom lens. Having a little trouble with manual focus, but auto focus works well. Also slower in all aspects, not just aperture, but for an ?always with you?camera having the ability to shoot birds/wildlife at a distance it works well. Have taken bird photos at 100? away with good focus?would like more detail/clarity but I am still learning the camera so it may be user error. Would suggest ISO of 1600 or less to avoid grain. Only complaint is the battery life ?.. will ... The lens, software and sensor are all excellent, but what earns the camera 5 stars are its well-thought-out, intuitive controls. I use the camera mostly for photographing birds, and the little devils flit around very quickly. A camera that is slow to operate will mostly take pictures of twigs and branches where birds used to be. This one is fast. It focuses and sets exposure quickly, and allows you to place necessary adjustments under your thumb and/or forefinger for rapid access. Birds need exposure compensation, not occasionally but most of the time. Being able to adjust this rapidly and intuitively and see the result in the viewfinder is a joy! The camera is well balanced and points where you look. Both viewfinder and view screen are bright, and the display can be adjusted to show as much or as little as you want. The viewscreen is large. It is not a touch screen, but I don?t want one. This camera is in a sweet spot. The P1000 lens is too long - never thought I?d say that.
I am not qualified to review the camera. I am a hobbyist bird and wildlife photographer, and the camera met my personal needs and expectations. Wanted the telephoto capability in a compact camera. Only had it for a week, at a time when the birding was not good. But I was able to get many very satisfactory (to me) pics that I couldn't have gotten otherwise without bulky and expensive equipment. I found the birding setting very helpful. It allows you to use the spot focus with the telephoto. I'll attach 2 pics of a Barred Owl that was in the deep woods on an overcast morning, perhaps 100+ feet from me. Third pic is a Semipalmated Plover which was a couple of hundred feet away from me--on the other side of a small pond--in the fading light of early evening. On the ... We have used LENSRENTALS 2x now. They helped us get just the right kits for our bucket list trips in the past year. We know we needed something “higher end” to capture the wildlife of a safari & the unique life in the Galapagos. They hooked us up with a great Canon body/ telephoto kit for the Serengeti. The icing on the cake was the Nikon all-in-one they provided for our Galapagos & Machu Picchu trip. Greatest point & shoot camera with mega telephoto capabilities. The perfect solution without breaking the bank. Thank you LENSRENTALS!!
I did a lot of research before purchasing this camera, so felt familiar with the camera's features before buying. I've been working with it for a couple of weeks and it meets or exceeds my expectations. It is easy to handle and lighter in weight than I expected. A good balance between flexibility and ease of use. On line user manual very easy to use and informative. Still learning, but I am impressed with the quality of photos I have taken. I bought this camera primarily for birding and I'm enjoying it in the field. I'm also pleased with B&H Photo. Camera arrived within 2 days and accessories I subsequently ordered came next day - neither was a rush order. Website easy to use and informative; customer service rep I used chat function with was prompt and helpful.
My primary photography, being amateur/hobby, is birds, and this has been a fantastic camera for that purpose. Many of my shots are at distances of up to several hundred yards, both still and in motion. Whether I'm using the camera hand-held, or on a monopod or tripod, the results have been very gratifying. I spent a lot of time considering whether this camera would be right for me and the study has paid off. This camera goes to professional level and has even surpassed my expectations. I've had two previous Coolpix cameras, the L830 and B600, and still use the B600 for backup. The P950 is now my everyday camera. With the previous experience of the B600, using the P950 right out of the box was no problem. The controls are very similar. What I like best about moving ... I've had two previous Coolpix cameras, the L830 and B600, and still use the B600 for backup. The P950 is now my everyday camera. With the previous experience of the B600, using the P950 right out of the box was no problem. The controls are very similar. What I like best about moving up to the P950 is having an Electronic View Finder so I don't have to rely on a monitor screen to see my subject, which required putting my reading glasses on to see the monitor screen clearly. Now it's a simple matter of putting the camera to my eye and just looking directly where I want to frame my shot. Given the greater zoom on the P950 I'm also getting clearer long-distance shots than were possible with the B600. This is very likely the last camera I'll every buy. It is fitting my needs perfectly. I can't really say that I've found anything about it that I don't like. Any problems I've had with so far I ascribe to my lack of technical photography expertise. If anything, it's perhaps a bit too large to take along backpacking with its case attached to my backpack hip belt, but my B600 fits that purpose just fine. I can always put the P950 inside my pack for use once I get to my destination. I look forward every day to taking this camera out for nature photography, and believe my results will only improve as I get more familiar with use of the camera and its capabilities over time.
The P950 is perfect for what it has to offer. Range and settings available far exceeded my expectations and it takes amazing high quality photos. The battery provided has great charge and longevity, the accessibility to change up settings depending on demand vary in so many ways, I didn't know which to choose! I use my camera for Bird Photography but when I found out it was good for Astrophotography as well, I was hooked. Definitely recommend for people wanting a camera for long range in 4K but want to keep to a budget (I purchased mine while it was on sale) (It comes with a strap, lens cap and manual. It has a screw part for the tripod)
i bought this mainly to photograph birds from a fixed location (my apartment balcony) or otherwise while out walking. and for that purpose, it is outstanding. it has a bird icon on the mechanical control dial! which btw I used to photograph any animals. the lens is surprisingly sharp, and produced excellent bokeh too btw. there's a grackle nest about 30 feet from my balcony and I shot stills and video in may and june of the little ones hatching and being fed round the clock by their parents. and, pics of many other birds and animals as well. it's a fun camera. not especially portable.
