I'm cheap, and my old bargain lenses not doing AF is more annoying than I thought it'd be. My vision and coordination aren't spectacular any longer and I have a little trouble getting consistent good results with MF, especially with extra weight and length on my camera.It was a little tight on removing it, too, which was a small surprise. Perhaps that's just my inexperience with Z mount.This one is probably best for people with fairly modern already long and heavy AF-S lenses--except the FTZ has the tripod mount. For a hobbyist macro-and-flowers amateur trying to cheap out, probably another maker with a robust if old mirrorless system would've been smarter.

Overall, I've had a great experience with this adapter - I've adapted 3 lenses on it, and all have worked well with smooth autofocus. The FTZ2 adapter does a great job of converting older Nikon AF-S lenses to be used with the Nikon Z cameras. It shares the same functionality with the original FTZ adapter but doesn’t have the hump on the bottom. This also means that it doesn’t have the tripod screw on the bottom as well but that’s not an issue at all. This adapter also does well with the older AF lenses, though you lose the autofocus capability. With manual lenses (pre-AI, AI, and AI-S lenses) I preferred to use a dumb adapter because of the hump on the FTZ but with the FTZ2 that’s no longer the case. It doesn't matter if I use a dumb adapter or not, now.

Purchased to use with my Nikon Z7 so that I could continue to shoot with my existing F-mount lenses while I slowly upgrade to Z-mount lenses. Even though the mount allows my to physically connect the F-mount lenses to the Z mount, the autofocus function does not work with half of my lenses. The issue I found was that this mount only works with lenses that have an autofocus motor on the lens itself, not just the one on the camera body. I have a lot of F mount that do not have motors in the lens so the autofocus function does not work with those lenses. I can use the to shoot if I want to do manual focusing, but for street and travel photography purposes, that does not suffice. It works great for lenses that have built-in autofocus motors though. Not much to say about this one. You need it if you want to still use your F-mount lenses after changing to mirrorlessZ-mount system. I don't think there's any loss in functionality (autofocus, VR, etc.). Just keep in mind the crop factor when shooting with a full frame Z-mount system. (For example, a 35mm f/1.8 on APS-C is roughly equivalent to a 50mm f/2.8 on a full-frame camera.) Best Buy should still be offering to reduce the price when bundled with a new camera body; otherwise, check other camera stores online to do a Best Buy price match (cough, Bravo & Hotel....) :) Example shots are with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G mounted on a Nikon Z6 II with FTZ II adapter.
I bought this adapter because one of my lenses (Nikkor 80-200 mm 2.8 AF) was not working in autofocus with my Z7 II body. It's an older lens and I already had the FTZ.Both adapters work well with newer lenses and allow you to use them pretty seamlessly (I have a 17-55 and 200-500 Nikkor lenses). I use a 2x teleconverter on my 200-500 mm lens, and the adapters work well mated to the 2x TC and the Z-body.Neither adapter works on my older lenses, rendering them manual focus only. Metering for exposure and for color temperature with pre-AI lenses is equivalent to that for contemporary lenses.The only problem encountered using my copy of the FTZ is the exceptionally tight fit of my 35/1.4G and of my 50/1.4G Nikkors. Both lenses were tight going on and almost impossible to remove, especially the 50. In fact, I was afraid the amount of torque I had to apply for decoupling was going to cause damage. Consequently, I will not attach those two lenses again. The other Nikkors attach and detach snugly and easily.
I have used many zeiss lenses for years. I love their color, detail and micro contrast. With my d850 this was more difficult than with the electric view finder cameras. The electronic in focus indicator on my DSLR isn't precise enough to reliably focus at f1.4 so I used live view. This required that the camera back screen be used to focus, which is less stable when hand holding the camera. When coupled with a mirorless camera using the FTZ adaptor, there is much more stability because focusing in magnifcation while resting the camera against the face leads to much more accurate focusing with these lenses. Also there are some f mount lenses without z mount options yet available ie 105mm f1.4, 200 f2 35mm f1.4. A big improvement over the original FTZ adapter. The original FTZ adapter had issues when using certain tripods and didn’t allow me to use my L bracket (Three Legged Thing) on my Z50.So I sold the original FTZ and upgraded to this model. Suddenly my L bracket fits without an issue!Also: Note: when I first connected this FTZ to my Z50, I got a message on the screen that said I was using an unsupported lens. This was tested with a F mount AFS 24-70 f/2.8E ED VR and also the big AFS 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR. It was excellent with the 24-70 and I would say good with the 180-400 /250-560 with the TC switched in. On the latter, it did not focus as quickly as on my D5 and the combination of the Z9 plus the FTZ always seemed to move the lens focus to the end of its range and start over even though I was already quite close to the precise focus point. That is what slowed it down. My focus setting was AF-S pinpoint focus. Everything was on a sturdy tripod yet I found 1/1000sec shutter to give noticeably better results than a lower speed.
