Best Add-on for my Nikon Camera So Far!

My son bought this item for my holiday gift and how grateful I am for this!!! Packed in such a small device is functionality that I really never had with my prior camera's remote. Bluetooth makes it all the more stable and the batteries seem to last forever. For the price, I feel like this is the best remote out there for my Nikon Z7ii and will need some serious proof to make me think otherwise.

I find it SO strange this remote does NOT work with a monitor connected to the HDMI out port on my P1000. Matter of fact you cannot pick Wifi icon on the menu! It's of little use to me if I can't use this remote with a monitor attached to the camera. I've upgraded the firmware on my P1000 to the latest version and still it doesn't work. Why?

Expensive for what it does but so far so good with z6 ii

So far I used it trigger manual shutter using bulb for two minutes...as a test really. It worked. The connection to the remote will remain active until you turn it off via menu or shut the camera down. My old one button Nikon (ml-l3?) remote would time out forcing you into the menu again to activate remote again. You can let this sit and the remote will still be connected when you wake up the camera. However this remote will go to sleep so you need to wake that up...no big deal.It doesn't come with a loop so you'll need to get one because this is somewhat small and smooth so it may slip out of your hand. It probably cost Nikon a few dollars to make each one. They can at least include a leash if they are charging upwards of 40 dollars. They did make a hole for it.

It Works
4 December 2021

This is my second ML-L7. The first one worked fine until it went though the wash cycle in my pants pocket. Not waterproof. I personally prefer wired remotes, but this is the only remote (besides your smartphone) for the Z50 or Z fc. I use it with two Z50 bodies. I will eventually get another so I don't have to reconnect going between the bodies. I suggest putting it on a lanyard instead of in your pocket.

Not well described
9 March 2023

I am using this device with a Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera. This device appears to not control auto-focus, only shutter release. If I am wrong about this, it is not obvious how to control auto-focus as a half press of the release button causes a full shutter release. This device does not control lens zoom, only digital zoom. I should have realized this since lens zoom is generally not powered, but it would not hurt to mention this in the description.Without providing control of auto-focus it is difficult to imagine a legitimate use case for this remote control, as it appears that the user has to manually press the shutter button on the camera to cause it to focus.

Perfect companion!
30 January 2023

This is the perfect companion to my Nikon Z50. It has the functionality that you need for casual shot-taking. The Function buttons add a layer of flexibility that can solve a lot of problems, like starting the camera on Interval Timer Shooting.

Remote control!
1 May 2022

I will be using this remote for multiple cameras. Primary use is for bird and moon photography with the Nikon Coolpix P1000. Vigration is the enemy for good still photography. This remote and a tripod is the answer. It works from about 30 ft away with any bluetooth capable Nikon.

Very difficult to pair with camera
1 December 2022

The ML-L7 was very difficult to pair with the P1000 camera. It took several attempts and erasures to get it to work, about an hour or so, just for a proper and reliable pairing. After that it worked okay but it and the camera have a sluggish response even at a 1' separation.

Well designed, easy to use but
1 November 2021

This remote is well designed, easy to use but the stay-on timer is very too short, around one minute. You have to process the re-connection procedure after this one minute time-out is over. I miss a lot bird shots action when trying to control remotely my camera. At the end of the day, I use an internal camera timer in lieu of this remote. May be for landscaping or portrait shots, but not at all for bird photograph usage.

Works, but buyer beware!
12 May 2022

I bought the ML-L7 for use with my Z6II after the recent firmware update. Build wise, it is fine. Connecting it to the camera is also easy. HOWEVER, it doesn't offer a half press or other similar focusing functionality. As far as I can tell, it only refocuses once on the first photo shot. What makes it worse is that you can't map the Fn buttons to something like AF-ON currently. So, it might be nice for people who do something like night/astro photography, but if you want to continually refocus for remote shots, consider other options. I feel like these issues could be corrected with software adjustments, but that's just hoping.
