A useful lens.

I bought a Z5 for snapshots at parties and for walkabouts. When I get serious, I use my D850. With this in mind, my Z5 with this lens mounted fits nicely into a MegaGear case for an easily carried photography tool with all the focal length for taking photos at social gatherings. It is sharp and the focal length range is fine for this purpose.

An okay lens

Didn't have the money to get the lens I wanted. I had to upgrade my camera and my lenses don't fit the new camera without the attachment. So I settled for this lens. So far it works good for studio work and outdoors. Idk how it will do for concerts that I shoot for a magazine. Guess I will soon see.

Good but I returned it for better alternative

I bought this lens with a Nikon Z5 which I love. But it is quite slow at 50 mm and I discovered the 28-75 f2.8 lens and bought that as an alternative. It is more expensive and heavier but worth both for the constant f2.8.

Great IQ
3 April 2023

I can not get over the picture quality coming from this little guy. If you can live with the aperture and focal range, you will not be disappointed. From 24 to 50mm, it equals the IQ of my 24-70, and 24-120, with out any noticeable space or weight gain in my kitbag. When most of the day is planned for wide or telephoto, you can not go wrong if you add this little guy in your bag, for the unexpected.

You can use this solid lens on a Z50 or a Z fc as a 36 to 75 zoom, where the interior of the large image circle performs quite well on dx compared to the 16-50 pancake lens. You won't have to worry about fuzzy corners with the crop sensor. Other pros include small size, relatively light, & not terribly expensive. The flip side: 2X zoom range seems low & the lens does not let in much light. But, you can still make good pictures with it; I liked the color and sharpness.

It's tolerable but...

First, the Z 24-50mm is the lightest Z lens without a doubt. That's why I ordered it. With the UV filter that B&H throws it, it weights 7.3 oz without both lens caps on my scale. The combined weight of my Z6 II and the lens is at 2 lb, which is the lightest weight I'll ever get for my Z6 II setup. Is this good or bad? It really depends on your use. If you use Z6II for Vlog, this lens can be a great asset since you can carry 2 lb rig much more easily than a 3 or 4 lb rig. I tried it with a Gorilla tripod, which is great. For me, I ordered it for travel light, particularly for street photography, hopefully in a less ostentatious fashion. Traveling light, yes. But, it's not the lens for grabbing less attention, because the lens is bit long for street photography once ... MoreFirst, the Z 24-50mm is the lightest Z lens without a doubt. But, it's not the lens for grabbing less attention, because the lens is bit long for street photography once it's out of its garage. People had been asked me a number of times whether or not I was taking pictures of them. Perhaps my choice of camera and lens is not suitable for street photography, my own fault.Just like the F-mount DX 18-55mm kit lens, this FX 24-50mm also produces sharp images with nice contrast and color. The AF speed is as good as any other Z lens as long as you have good night. In low light, my Z6 II updated with the latest firmware, the lens struggles with AF (AF-S Single Point) quite considerably. At wide open, the corners are a bit soft with heavy vignette, which is expected. For me, I normally shoot between f/8 and f/11 for street photography, so that's a problem. For the pricing, it's the most affordable Z lens, but I still think $400 is bit too much for such a lens. Perhaps I'd keep it if it was a $200 or $250 lens.

Not a bad lens for what it is.

Nice lens. Sharp images. Focuses fast and accurately. I'm not too crazy about the f/6.3 at 50mm. Short zoom range even for a kit lens

The perfect Z walk around lens!
3 December 2020

I'm a big fan of Nikon Z cameras, owning both the Z50 and the Z6ii for which I sold my Z7 to acquire. Wanted that second card slot and don't need 45.6mp. So having used the little Z 16-50 DX pancake lens on BOTH my Z50 and my Z7, and now on my Z6ii, when Nikon announced this FX version of their pancake lens I bought it immediately for my Z6ii. For me, at my 82 years of age, smaller and lighter, AND full-frame are excellent qualities in a lens if the IMAGE quality is there as well, as it is on my DX 16-50mm and DX 50-250mm lenses. And I find the IQ on this new full-frame lens to also be excellent. So I highly recommend all three of these Z lenses. Here's a highly cropped shot I took yesterday of our miniature Golden Doodle, Jazz. Travel lens
25 November 2020

I bought it because it is made by Nikon and I had only good experience with their glass over the past 50 years and I wanted something fairly light. I bought the 24-50 because it weighs less than 0.5 lbs. The kit lens which is 24-200 mm weighs 1.5 lbs. Well the lens is light but that is its biggest attribute. You need good light to get a decent picture or a high end flash. At 24mm and f4 I find the corners to be softer than my 24-200 mm lens.

Very fit for purpose
22 December 2021

First, I am not new to photography, buying this kit lens as a toe dip into Z water. I have 5 Nikon bodies and 40 lenses. I bought the Z5 as a walkaround / travel solution. I use other bodies for low light, sports, nature and macro photography. I also bought the Z5 because it adds vibration reduction to my wonderful old F mount prime (and zoom) lenses using the FTZ adapter. So, let's recognize the concerns with the Nikkor Z 24-50 f/4-6.3; it is expensive, plastic, has a small aperture that is not extremely sharp when fully open. Also, important to me, it doesn't offer great bokeh. Here's why it works for me; it is very compact, light, has a wide 24mm view, and can go to 75mm in DX mode, focuses accurately, is very sharp when the aperture is closed down... a good ... MoreFirst, I am not new to photography, buying this kit lens as a toe dip into Z water. If I want bokeh I also have large aperture, very accurate 40mm and 55 mm Z mount compact primes. And finally, I have many other legacy lens options with the FTZ. Some are larger zooms; you hardly notice the FTZ adapter with them. As to the slow aperture, the Z5 sensor is so sensitive that the higher ISO's have little noise; low light is not a problem, nor encountered often in walkaround photography. I got my new, white box copy of this lens at a large discount on eBay, so the expensive part went away. I am grateful to Nikon for offering this wonderful, compact solution that fits in so well with the rest of my Nikon gear. It meets my needs very well.
