Nikon NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S Lens
The Nikon Nikkor Z 70-200 mm f/2.8 VR S is suitable for Nikon mirrorless cameras with a full frame sensor. Thanks to the zoom range of the lens, you can photograph subjects from a great distance. You can use the lens for sports, nature, and reportage photography, for example. The f/2.8 aperture ensures you can use the lens in low-light situations. The lens has a fixed aperture, so the light intensity remains the same when you zoom in. This means you don't have to adjust your settings immediately. And thanks to the focusing system, the lens is also suitable for videographers. This system is fast, accurate, and quiet, making your videos look smooth. The special lens elements counteract lens errors such as chromatic aberrations and lens flare, which ensures high image quality.

I've been shooting with the F mount 70-200 f/2.8 for several years and have always considered it to be the sharpest, most reliable lens in my kit. The glass performed flawlessly over many marathons, IronMan triathlons and numerous other assignments. This year, in my transition to the Z system, I picked up the Z 70-200 f/2.8 after using the old one with the FTZ adapter for several months. I have to say that the new lens (mounted on a Z9) produces wonderful images that are arguable sharper than the venerable F mount lens. Autofocus is faster and I'm not regretting the change in the least. Granted, time will tell with regard to the Z model's ability to withstand the abuse inherent in shooting endurance events and the like but I'm expecting it to hold up just fine. I take a lot of photos in churches where the lighting is never good. I had an older nikkor 80-200 f2.8 and always wanted the 70-200 f2.8 with VR. The 80-200 worked well on my D500 but I wanted the VR and a native Z lens for my Z6ii and Z5. I am so pleased with the purchase. The colors are great, the lens is super sharp and it works so well in the churches. I also take some outdoor photos and this lens is great for people as well as nature. This lens performs so well in so many different lighting situations. We all know that good glass is expensive, but I would say it's worth every penny.

Saved up to purchase this lens. I shoot mainly landscape and wildlife. I have the 24-200z, which is a great all around lens, but I really missed the 2.8 aperture I had with other F mounts. As other reviews note, it is a big lens but that's not a big deal for me. Image quality is superb as expected. It really does blow the 24-200 out of the water at comparable focal lengths. Stabilization is magnificent so far in low light conditions. Build quality is what you would expect. I was out doing some landscape shots in a snow storm recently and was confident with it in these conditions. The hood lock is wonderful too. I've not programmed the extra buttons but they're placed nicely on the barrel for easy access. I don't use the lit screen on the barrel much so it's kind of ... MoreSaved up to purchase this lens. Changed out the foot for a new Kirk swiss-arca like everyone else. Works perfectly and highly recommend. I might purchase the Z-2x converter which would be nice for specific type of wildlife shooting while not giving up landscape opportunities. I do a bit of portrait shooting but have not had a chance to use it in this capacity. I did test the lens out of the box and it's a good copy. Excellent step up from the F mounts, no contest.

While the Nikon Nikkor Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S Lens is as flawless as advertised and I would highly recommend this phenomenal lens, I also want to discuss B & H.I've been a B & H customer for decades. Bought a Nikon D3 kit from them back when the D3 was new! This time I decided to completely replace my kit (Nikon Z9, 14-24, 24-70, 70-200mm Z S lenses, 2 SB-5000's, cards, cases, readers, filters, etc.).B & H handled everything without any problems. It was a big order with several items out-of-stock, not yet released, or back ordered. Over the ensuing weeks, all my items arrived (still waiting on the Z9 and batteries to be released) without issue.B & H has always made the selection and buying process painless. Never a problem. I came from a D850 and the 70-200mm 2.8 vrII. That 70-200 was my favorite lens. I upgraded to the Nikon Z9. I put the 70-200 vrII on it with the FTZ2 adapter. The lens was sharp and fast BUT I didnt like the balance of the lens on the camera with the FTZ adapter. I was happy with the images and performance but the balance and feel of the lens was dissapointing.I went ahead and purchased the 70-200 2.8 S lens for Z mount. I had no idea how much of a difference this lens would make! I can't compare it to the previous generation 70-200 ED but wow this new one is amazing. It is sharper, faster, more contrast, better color and way nicer balance on the Z9. Im my opinion the Nikon Z9 plus the Z 70-200 2.8 S is a dream combo. This lens feels amazing on the camera and is a joy to shoot with. Its next level quality in my opinion. They nailed it. I shoot this lens all day long at 2.8 wide open and its super sharp. The bokeh is really nice too. A minor quibble, the bokeh in the outer edges are oval shaped but its not a big deal. This lens makes your subject pop. Portraits, sports, action, whatever, its amazing. If you can get it, I would highly recommend it, its worth it compared to the older versions.
Yes...I read all about the Z9, the great reviews..etc... so I waited and finally got my chance to secure an incredible camera. Naturally, I needed an incredible lens to go with it and the Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S was the ticket.I'd read about it's sharpness and how it is truly better than the F mounted lens of the same focal length. I couldn't believe the reviews were accurate since I have been using my F with my D850 with tremendous results...until I got my Z.Fantastic quality, superior pinpoint sharpness and total satisfaction on my part.Additionally, I bought it on sale, with a free UV filter that I have since replaced... but a great lens, a great deal and outstanding service from B&H...truly a rewarding experience.
I loved the F-Mount 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom, which I rented several times before I moved to the Z system. This Z version is even better, with sharpness and clarity every bit as good or better than the F version, so I bought it as my first pro-level lenses with the Z6. when I was still with the F system, my main pro lens was the 14-24mm f/2.8, but for now I have the 14-30mm f/4 and 24-70mm f/4, both of which are very sharp for my purposes. eventually I'll get the f/2.8 versions of those, too, but since there wasn't a cheaper version of the Z 70-200mm at the time, I started my pro level lenses with it. it seems to have significantly less focus breathing than the most recent F version, which is nice. so now with the Z system I have this one, which I love, and the f/4 ... MoreI loved the F-Mount 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom, which I rented several times before I moved to the Z system. Since I don't do much wildlife, those four lenses do everything I need, and the quality of the 70-200mm f/2.8 Z yields incredible results and I strongly recommend it. Now I just need about $4k more to upgrade the other two zooms and, eventually, the 50mm f/1.2 as the last upgrade I hope to eventually hope to get. for now, though, they're all serving me well in the Z6.
I know. I should have done my homework. But here's the bottom line. This lens has about the same physical specs as the F-Mount version. It come in at 3lbs 4 oz as sitting on my desk with caps and hood. My F-mount version of the same lens is 3lbs 6 oz. Whoopee! I saved 2 ounces. Lengthwise, the Z lens ia 14 mm LONGER than the F-mount. Like I said I should have done my homework. I just assumed this lens would be more compact; lighter and smaller. Silly me. I should have assumed nothing. Seems to perform well, but so does my F-mount 70-200 with an FTZ adapter, but the FTZ does add a bit of weight and length. So was it worth $2400 to ditch the FTZ adapter? Probably not. I guess it depends on how much you value money.
Stunning lens. I have had several different zooms in that range over the years as a professional. This is by far the best I have owned. The sharpness is just amazing. There is hardly a reason to use a prime lens compared to this. The AF is super quick and basically silent. The vibration reduction works really well. The bokeh is great for portraits. I can't find anything I don't like about this lens. The only downside is the size and weight. If you use this lens all day you will feel your back :)
This lens... Hmm there is the good the bad and the ugly. The ugly first: I have had 2 of them. The first lens the autofocus was absolutely terrible. I mostly shoot manual so I wasn't sure if I should make an issue of it. The manual shooting on this first lens was fantastic. Upon thinking of how much I paid I decided to take it back. The colors seemed way more accurate on this lens, and the overall sharpness was much, much better. I would not have known this had I not gotten the lens exchanged. It did do better with auto focusing than the first lens, however both lenses were unable auto focus on smaller animals like birds, or birds in flight... which I found somewhat disappointing. Then we come down to the manual focusing. (Big sigh...)The first lens was much easier to manual focus. This one always seems slightly off from what you are seeing. It does a great job when it does catch the focus just right, but it is waaaay more finnicky to manual focus. Even using the focus peaking option on the Z7II body changed between the 2 lenses, the first lens was easy to view the focus peaking and this lens is much less noticeable even set to the highest setting.Overall I think it's a great lens but it would have been nice if I didn't feel each one excelled at different things... I mean it's the same exact lens! The quality control should be a bit more accurate. I kept the second lens as it's sharpness is fantastic... but be warned, go through everything be fore your 30 days is up.I am going to try a firmware update soon... hoping somehow that this issue was addressed since upon checking yesterday this lens was not sold to me with the most up to date firmware. I've had the lens overall 4 months and have had some great shots... it's just a bit frustrating.
