This was a lifesaver! My puffy got absolutely filthy after 4 months in the bush. One dose of this and it felt brand new! I couldn't use it all Summer however because we didn't have a dryer so keep that in mind as you purchase. It needed to through about 5 cycles in the dryer. But once I got to civilization again It felt incredible to wear my clean puffy again!

If you have a front load washing machine then this stuff gives you more freedom to wash your down kit at home with ease.! Make sure however that you clean your washing machine with an empty hot wash ( or a washing machine special wash ) before you use it so there is no soap residue in your machine before you chuck your expenise down kit in! With this product!

I use this for all of my down clothing to keep them clean as well as preserving the insulative qualities of the downJackets and vests have all gone through the wash without issues and that is a big deal when washing down since it can feel quite risky given the high cost of these items and the risk of destroying the down or the fabric colourGood to do a spot cleaning of the jacket first with mild dishwashing detergent in soiled areas and then toss it all in with the downwash for great results (front loader only)Have washed several Canada G__se items with complete success

I was unaware of proper sleeping bag care until pretty recently. As a result I had a heavily used bag that had never been washed and another one that had been stored compressed for a few years. I used this product to wash both according to the instructions on how to (carefully) wash a sleeping bag from REI's website. It's absolutely incredible how much loft was restored! The bags now completely fill out their large storage sacks, whereas they used to only fill them up about halfway. In fact, now they're so puffy that I have to find a new place to store them! I also used this product to wash a badly abused down jacket and vest. Same result: both items are as shiny and lofty as the day I bought them.
Worked very well to clean a Patagonia down jacket. You may need to use less than the recommended amount on the bottle depending on your jacket. The first time I used this down wash, there was extra residue after the wash, but then after sending the down jacket through another rinse and dry cycle the extra residue on the jacket was gone. Overall, will buy again to clean my other down jackets, just will use less detergent.
One of the things I love about this product is that it's environmentally friendly, water-based and biodegradable. Additionally, it does not contain any harmful chemicals that can damage gear that I've invested a lot of money into.I have used Nikwax Down Proof on my down jacket and sleeping bag, and I have noticed a significant improvement in their performance. My sleeping bag seems much warmer and comfortable with increased loft. I highly recommend this product to anyone who owns down-filled gear and wants to ensure it stays in top condition.
Needed a way to safely wash my down items (sleeping bag, for example) and other technical wear, like a Patagonia Nanopuff. This does the job quite well. After a few uses, no loft seems to be negatively affected and the items were definitely cleaned up. I'll likely continue to get this in order to keep my gear clean and prolong the longevity of potential life / use.
I used this cleaner to get white wine out of my Outdoor Research Baja Down Pullover and it worked great! I went with this brand of cleaner because it is recommended on OR's website. I have no comments and didn't run into any issues. The directions were straight forward and it did it's job.I will note that I did use this with a top-loading washer (against the directions) but it turned out fine because mine doesn't have an agitator.
Found a used Down Jacket in great condition listed for 1/3 the price just because it was dirty. I decided to buy it and have a go at giving it a good clean with this Down Wash. It worked perfectly and my jacket now looks good as new!The bottle includes washing machine instructions but I would suggest doing it by hand. Some reviews complain of spots left behind but I would guess it is because not all of the product was able to be thoroughly rinsed out in the washing machine. Here was my process (for best results, be patient!):1. Fill a tub with water, submerge item and churn around until item has soaked through - Drain water.2. Refill tub and add appropriate amount of Down Wash. A year ago, I received a heavy REI down Stormhenge jacket as a gift as I currently have limited funds to run the oil heat in my home. I am sitting in the jacket now as I write and it overall keeps me very warm as long as I wear a suitable shirt underneath. Anyway, after a year of constant, daily wear, both the jacket I received as a gift plus one I bought myself a month later, needed washed. Because of Covid and budgetary concerns, I dragged my feet on maybe going to a laundromat and decided to try to wash and dry the jackets at home. All I have is a standard washer that does have a center agitator and a dryer, but at least the dryer has a low or no heat setting. Since my washer actually does have a "hand washables" cycle setting, I decided to give it a go and I prayed that I wouldn't damage the jacket. I decided to try washing the jacket I bought myself first since I bought it used whereas the gifted one was brand new. After taking a look at the washing tag instructions on the coat, I realized that I was going to have to use something other than standard detergent. After reading other reviews and contacting REI myself, it was recommended that I use this product for the wash. So, I placed an order and within a few days, the Nikwax had arrived. Then, one rainy day I decided to go forward with the process.I set the washer on the maximum water setting, added the Nikwax amount according to the instructions. Once the washer had almost filled, I carefully added the Stormhenge jacket and was careful to balance it as carefully as I could around the agitator. Since I had never used the "hand washables" cycle before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I kept the lid open so I could see what would transpire. The filling completed and I heard the "click" on to the washing cycle and I thought the washer had broken because nothing happened. Suddenly, after about 30 seconds, agitation started. It only lasted about 15 seconds and then stopped. I determined that this cycle used a duty cycle- light agitation for a few seconds, then stop, then repeat agitation a minute later. The washer proceeded this way for about the next ten minutes. I got in my head though that this very light washing might not do the trick, so decided to help swash the coat around while being careful to keep it from compressing around the agitator. The cycle completed and now on to rinse. No Nikwax on rinse, but instructions say to rinse at least twice. I followed the same process, hand washables setting, then I carefully manually helped the agitation while keeping the jacket away from the agitator as much as possible. After two rinses, a sigh of relief as nothing appeared to be damaged. I ran extra spin to get as much water out of the jacket as I could before heading for the dryer.Taking the jacket out of the washer, it had a slight smell that I at first couldn't identify but then turned out to be the Nikwax. The jacket had the feel of something that had been waxed, which was expected. My hands felt that way too. I should note that the instructions say to wear gloves when using the Nikwax. I didn't, but was careful to wash my hands thoroughly afterwards.Drying was a no brainer. Two tennis balls, low heat setting and then fluffing between cycles. Although the jacket seemed dry after three cycles, I decided on a fourth cycle just as a precaution. The drying process took about 3.5 hours. After the elapsed time, a fluffy, warm down jacket emerged with excellent fluff/ loft and warmth. I'd like to point out that most of the pros say NOT to use a washer with an agitator and I could certainly see why. If I hadn't of been constantly monitoring the process, it could be quite easy for the jacket to get caught and torn on the agitator. So, unless you're planning to monitor the entire process and have a special "hand washables" setting or equivalent, perhaps the tub or laundromat are better options. Thanks Nikwax for doing an excellent job!
