I purchased this as a Christmas present for my father, since I remembered he enjoyed Zelda 1 and 2 back when I was a kid. Often when I get him tech-related gifts he never gets much use out of them, since anything that requires connection to a TV or a computer can be just a bit much. This one is very self-contained, quick to set up, and simple to use. The games look great and clear on this little screen, the controls are pleasantly similar to the original NES pad, and everything runs smoothly and quickly. The clock function is quite cute, and the stand built into the packaging is a nice touch. Two complaints: I do wish it had come with more of a paper manual explaining the menus and clarifying how saving works, but navigating the system is pretty intuitive and the ... MoreI purchased this as a Christmas present for my father, since I remembered he enjoyed Zelda 1 and 2 back when I was a kid. Thankfully it's USB-C so if you have a modern Android phone you can just use your phone charger.Overall though it's an extremely cute and sleek device, the screen and controls are just right, and setup and navigation are easy, and the games themselves are timeless, so it's very easy to recommend this.

The games all seem to run perfectly. Which probably isn't a surprising feat nowadays. Here are my brief thoughts on the games:Zelda 1 - The original. Solid for sure, but it may feel dated if you've never played it.Zelda 2 - A challenging dungeon sidescroller. The combat is precise, and enemies are tough. But as you really sink into it you'll find it's worthy of the Zelda name.Link's Awakening - This game is probably the easiest to get into. It plays like Zelda 1 but with a lot of QoL improvements, lots more music, and a stronger narrative... As you're a castaway on a mysterious island and need to escape.Vermin - is also good, although I've noticed I spent the least amount of time playing it.LA and Vermin look the best on the screen as the sprites are bigger. ... MoreThe games all seem to run perfectly. Zelda 1 and 2 feels tiny by comparison. The Sound comes from a mono speaker on the left side. It's clear and can be pretty loud if you want it to.Something I like is how the saving works. with a button you can go to the game selection and the system auto saves your state from wherever you were. Making it a lot more convenient to stop if you need to.The best new thing about it I would say is the timer, as it doubles as a sort of mini game where you defeat enemies as Zelda II Link. It seems to be a different engine from the NES game, as tricks I would use to defeat enemies like the armored knights didn't work. After the timer ends calm music plays for a few minutes before resetting. So it's pretty ambient as far as timers go.The clock does what you'd expect and is pretty neat as well. As link slowly goes through abridged areas of the first game each hour. All in all this device is designed pretty well for quick bursts of play between breaks or when you have time to kill. If you've never played these Zelda games, I would say that this is a great place to learn what made the series memorable in the first place.

Absolutely love this little gadget. I grew up playing the original Zelda.mmand it remains my favorite in the series. The buttons are nice and Nintendo NES like. Don't let the small screen fool you. It's super bright and clear. I have terrible vision and I still have no issues seeing this.In case you didn't know, ZELDA 2 from the Nes and an old game and watch Zelda game are also included. The insert box has art on it and the back of the system has a triforce that lights up when turned on. A must have for all Zelda fans.

Having grown up as a Nintendo fan, I would sneak over to my cousin's house across the street to play Zelda on the NES as a kid. The Game and Watch consoles were a little before my time, but I do remember seeing one year after they came out and for their time they were amazing mobile experiences. Never did I think as a kid that I would one day be able to carry around a Game and Watch with a full NES Zelda experience on it.While the concept today may seem uninteresting to the younger generation of gamers, this is a nice nod to the rich history of Nintendo and Zelda that makes a great collectible. As far as what is on offer you get the two Zelda NES titles as well as the Gameboy version of Link's Awakening (not the color GBC version available on the same cart). On top of that you get a cool clock screen saver that you can control Link at any time, as well as a Zelda version of the Game and Watch Vermin title. The quality is good with the gameplay is great. The buttons are mushy like they were back then, but the picture is great for such a small screen. The sound is good, though mono. And features like a rechargeable battery with USB-C cable included are nice features. All around for Zelda fans this is a must-have. For those lukewarm to the series or with other ways to play them (NES, Virtual Console, etc, etc) then this might be a pass as the asking price of $50.
The system works great. Really good battery life, and the volume is good. The screen is small, but actually good enough for playing the included games. The system will bog down notably when lots of activity is happening, like when you are on a screen with lots of lionels and they all shoot at the same time, otherwise the games play very smoothly. Overall the games play very well, and my son is enjoying playing through the old games that he hasn't had the chance to play. I give it 5 stars for gameplay and playtime. It is small enough to easily slip in a pocket, and light enough to forget it's there. The one downfall for me is the location of the buttons. My hand placement is in a way that my thumbs have to be bent, so I can't play long. My son (9) doesn't have this ... MoreThe system works great. Really good battery life, and the volume is good. My hand placement is in a way that my thumbs have to be bent, so I can't play long. My son (9) doesn't have this problem. To make longer gameplay practical, I built an enclosure that gives handles to hold onto. If the buttons were at the top of the system, I don't think this would be necessary.
Brings back a lot of memories. Pure nostalgia. It has its drawbacks of course. Its small and not too great for big hands, and its pretty pricey. There are definitely better, and cheaper ways to go about playing old titles like these, but its Nintendo and i dont mind just giving them my mo ey half the time, lol. The gameplay is exactly what you'd expect and controls and everything. There are little secrets and easter eggs built in so thats cool. Especially if you forgot how hard these games can be and want a small leg up. Typing Zelda as the name for the 1st game isnt one of them this time around, but there is a similar "cheat." I'm sure most people under the age of 40 wont have a clue what im talking about there, haha. It's not really something young kids will ... MoreBrings back a lot of memories. Pure nostalgia. I have two 11 year olds and a 9 year old and they didnt like it at all. Their loss. This really is more for older people that grew up playing these games and maybe even owned the orignal game and watch handhelds. The original games from those handhelds are on here as well. They dont hold up all that well, but thats what thebother games are for cause they absolutely still do. All in all, its pretty cool to own and the battery lasts decently well and charges with usb c thank god. Id possibly suggest going with something else for this price like a raspberry pi or something that will hold more if not all 8bit nes game and more. I would recommend it more if it were like 25 bucks top. My wife purchased mine for me so i dont have buyers remorse, which if i ourchased it i think i might.
I wasn't expecting much beyond a neat collector's item, like the Mario version last year, but I'm surprised to find that I'm having quite a lot of fun with this little handheld. I find myself reaching for it to play classic Zelda games more than I thought I would and just having a lot of fun with it.The games are what they are -- a selection of classic Legend of Zelda titles. With the exception of the Vermin re-skin and the clock "game," you've likely encountered some or all of these. The only criticism I have is in regards to Link's Awakening. It feels odd to include the original GameBoy version rather than the upgraded GameBoy Color DX version. Could be a hardware issue, I suppose, but I doubt it. More likely it seems like the intent was to include the "classic" ... MoreI wasn't expecting much beyond a neat collector's item, like the Mario version last year, but I'm surprised to find that I'm having quite a lot of fun with this little handheld. More likely it seems like the intent was to include the "classic" version of the game as it was originally released. If so, fair enough, I suppose, but it is a definite downgrade from the DX version. (Then again, there is an enhanced Switch remake of Link's Awakening readily available if you want to play the absolute best version ...) However, I have to hand it to Nintendo -- these are three fairly meaty adventure games all packed into one convenient system, with lots of features (including alternate language versions of all three games). The unit itself is of nice quality. It is very light and easy to carry around. The buttons feel good, if a little small, and the screen is nice and bright. It doesn't play as well if held at an angle, but it's pretty unlikely that you'd won't be playing it looking straight on.All in all, highly recommend the Zelda Game & Watch. It's not the 3D All-Stars treatment I was hoping for to celebrate 35 years of the Legend of Zelda, but it is a fun little handheld system.
Like with the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros, the original The Legend of Zelda from the NES has now also reached its 35th Anniversary and had its own Game & Watch mini-console released. This 35th Anniversary Legend of Zelda Game & Watch comes with more games and features than the 35th Anniversary Super Mario Bros Game & Watch, so this is an even better value. This comes with the 2 original NES games The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventures of Link, as well as the well-regarded original Game Boy game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. This Game & Watch also comes with typical Game & Watch features, such as a clock and a Link-themed version of the old Game & Watch game, Vermin. This is a fun, collectible Game & Watch mini-console that is great to introduce kids to the classic Zelda games, and is also great as a collectible for fans of the Zelda series that want some convenient and inexpensive access to the old games in a convenient portable pocket-size. The controls seem pretty solid and consistent true to original design, although the old Zelda games may take a fair amount of getting used to because of their unique and challenging original gameplay design. Like most old arcade and NES games, the games are very challenging, so they do require a solid amount of initial open-mindedness and patience to learn the unique control schemes and to master them and the enemy patterns. There's a lot of online hint guides and videos available if you or your kids ever need some extra hints or advice from getting stuck or lost. The games have a lot of replay value, as well, as you can challenge yourself to finding everything, or in future play-throughs you can challenge yourself to not acquire as much health or power, to your liking, after beating the games for the first time. There's little more satisfying out there as a gaming experience than to truly master a Zelda game! And this console comes with 3 full-fledged Zelda games to master if you so choose!
I was a little skeptical of getting this when it initially released, but this little Zelda Game & Watch is really awesome. The game that sold me on this little device was Link’s Awakening. The first Zelda is a fun little game to play and the 2nd one as many Zelda fans know is the one with mixed feelings, but having Link’s Awakening in there is just too notch. I do wish that Link’s Awakening was in color like the DX version was for the GameBoy Color, but for those of you who played it originally on the pea green screen from the original GameBoy are in for a nostalgic treat. If you’re having mixed feelings about getting it, I would just recommend you to get it while it’s still here. I’m definitely glad I just decided to get it. There is also a little surprise on the back of the system when you turn it on too. Won’t spoil the surprise though. Also I added a screen protector and silicone case on mine. It doesn’t scratch easy or anything but I actually play around with it pretty often and decided to keep it nice.
worth it at the discounted $20-5 on sale every once in a while. i think they could've gone making the whole thing gold like their original nes cartridges. the green makes it more tacky and not authentic like the original g&w series (i dont remember them being so bright). also, the "stand" they give you is part of the packaging, so its an efficient idea, but its basically a shiny cardboard box as your stand. also, the charging cable is like 2 inches long, so... unless you get an extension chord or have a situation where you can make the 2 inches work... ur not going to use the "stand" or whatever else it comes with. and superlatively thinking, you can always get the roms and play for free, but that's my 2 cents for yall.
