Brand new and fully charged product did not jump start battery of my 5-Liter engine. Not one trickle of power. Maybe less leverage due to shorter handle length? Additionally, I understand need to keep things compact, but another couple of inches cable length would have given more flexibility in use. I like to attach dead to car chassis, rather than battery, but there was no reaching anything other than the battery terminals, at least in my car. The shortness of the cables even made it difficult to position the device to attach the cables to my battery. If the terminals where on top of the battery, this may not have been a problem. On top of that, the red and black plastic coating of the clamps chipped off. I did not realize this happened until I finally gave up and fully removed the device from my engine bay. Simply attempting to attach the clamps to the terminals knocked the plastic coating off. I did not handle them roughly in any way and was shocked to see this happened. Would give zero for battery jumping if I could. It does have a nice flashlight function, can be used to charge USB devices, and is a nice design. Just did not work for my primary and most important reason for buying.

A jumpstarter that cannot disable this feature will not shock a totally drained battery (because it won't shock unless it can detect the correct charges at the correct terminals, which is not possible in a drained battery). This product DOES have the option to turn off the reverse polarity protection. However, it's important to know that the instructions leave out a vital part of how to do this.THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW IS, to disable the reverse polarity protection, you must do so BEFORE attaching the cable clamps to your car's battery terminals. Here are the steps:1. Plug the cable into the jumpstarter, and turn on the jumpstarter via the power button.2. Hold down the "!" button for at least three seconds, until you see the bar-shaped lights start to turn on and off. (YOU HAVE NOW DISABLED THE REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION, SO BE VERY CAREFUL).3. Attach the clamps to the correct battery terminals, first connecting the red clamp to the positive terminal, then the black to the negative terminal.4. Start your car!If you try to attach the clamps to the terminals at any point before holding the "!" button down for three seconds, a red light will turn on, and the jumpstarter will NOT allow you to disable the reverse polarity protection, no matter how long you hold the "!" button down for. This is not at all explained in the instructions--I had to scour the internet before I found out how to fix this problem, because the instructions make it sound like you hold the "!" button down after you have already attached the clamps to the battery terminals.Anyway, this jumpstarter definitely did start my car, even though it was totally drained prior, once I figured that out! I knocked off a star for confusing instructions, but otherwise this seems to be a great product so far. It's not a super large size, it gets the job done, and it has an outgoing USB port as well to charge devices. This product was about half-charged when it arrived, and it took maybe 2 hours or so to fully charge it. I honestly probably could have used it to start my car without having done that, though--starting my totally dead car battery didn't even take a quarter of this product's charge! I'll be hanging on to this and keeping it in my car just in case.

The NOCO GB40 Jump Starter may be small and compact in size, but it does work in getting a vehicle to start when the battery is dead. It took about an hour to reach full capacity before its first use, and after that first usage, the battery is still at 100%. Of course, it does help when the vehicle is able to start right away, which is what this little dynamite package did in providing enough power to get my truck moving again. The only one, real drawback with this jump starter, is that the battery cables are just too short to have it sit comfortably in a safe position, while starting the vehicle. For my truck, there isn't much of a flat surface around the battery to have it lie flat safely, thus, I had to hold onto it while an assistant started the truck. For my truck, there isn't much of a flat surface around the battery to have it lie flat safely, thus, I had to hold onto it while an assistant started the truck. Maybe a 2.5 or 3 foot extension would be sufficient in keeping the battery pack in a safe position for a one-man operation. Having a cable at longer lengths (longer than 3 feet), may make it difficult to start a dead vehicle, since the power has to travel at a greater distance, and could weaken the jump starter faster because of it... it's just my thought about a super, long cable extension. Other than the battery cables being short, the GB40 is still a good investment to have around, because of its size and ease of use. And who knows when one will encounter a dead battery in your vehicle, having this portable jump starter can safe you time and keep you safe when you'll most need it.

So I’m posting a review to see what others have experienced. This thing has been amazing for my boat with a v8 and my Volvo that had a parasitic drain and would be dead after a couple days. I’ve used it a lot and recommended to everyone. Haven’t needed it much lately But last week my battery died in my fishing boat trolling too long when I put the Noco on it instantly went to override mode I let it sit for a few mins but still wouldn’t crank my 40 outboard. Thought battery maybe toast after trying a couple times until another boat came over with a little motomaster booster. Hooked it up and turned the key and boom fired right up. Is something wrong with my gb40 now. Still gets a full charge but don’t know why it wasn’t giving enough power to crank my little ... MoreSo I’m posting a review to see what others have experienced. I was out on my sailboat a few weeks back anchored for the night and I woke up with two dead batteries I got in my dingy and drove around to some other boats asking for help and another sailor had one of these. He said it would jump my boat and then handed it to me. Is only the size and weight of two smartphones, I have a two cylinder diesel. It says it can start up to a three liter diesel or a 6 liter gas motor. I didn't believe it until I clipped it on and my boat fired right up. I have bought two of these since then. I'm hoping that I won't need to use it again. I did think it was a very good idea to own and keep with me when I go snowmobiling or quadding. It would've cost me hundreds of dollars to have somebody come out to help me jump my boat. The Noco itself is just as expected. We own several. Walmart customer service was very helpful with an issue with the their party vendor that was utilized. We purchased two and only received one. Gingerbread Tropical Fish was the third party who shipped both items as a two part order and in the original manufacture box that listed exactly what was inside. One made it to our mailbox. One did not. Shocker when you don’t mask the item on shipping and it is expensive it is going to go missing. Walmart customer service made an attempt to remedy with Gingerbread Tropical Fish who ghosted us with the attempt to get a replacement. Walmart issued a refund promptly and extremely helpful in making everything right. Walmart 5 stars. Gingerbread Tropical Fish 0 stars.
I bought this when I needed a jump. A few months later, I was staying at an Airbnb, and my host asked if we could use my car to jump his. I offered him this device instead. It worked, and he took it with him on the way to the dealership. His hybrid died at a stop on the way, but he was able to jump it again with the device to keep going. In total, I've used this device on three occasions in ten months, and it's been beyond worth the money. It's nice to not have to rely on anyone else, especially when you're traveling. No longer will you have to try to figure out how to get jumper cables to reach when you have other vehicles parked around you. Plus it has safety features to keep non-mechanics from doing harm. There are some people who obviously don't read the manual. We had an SUV and through operator error (mine) had a totally dead, repeat TOTALLY dead 0v in the battery.Purchased this and it came out of the box with 70% charge. Without it we were stuck with no cellphone (also flat, can't trust me with anything) and it was starting to rain. We wouldn't have been found. So for the $170 we paid, it was well worth itNow, after each use, put the thing on charge, this ... MoreThere are some people who obviously don't read the manual. We had an SUV and through operator error (mine) had a totally dead, repeat TOTALLY dead 0v in the battery.Purchased this and it came out of the box with 70% charge. I have bought 4 of these 1-GB70 AND 3-GB40 units. I have had them for a few years and now after warranty has expired, 2 of the units no longer power on using the power button. The GB70 and one of the GB40 units have the same issue. The units charge fine and the flashlight works on both but we can't get the unit to power on to send power to the booster cables. I have contacted NOCO and sent video of the issue comparing to one of my units that still function properly and because they are out of warranty nothing was done except to offer a discount on a replacement booster. We used the GB70 a handful of times and we can't remember ever using the GB40 at all. We brought the units into the house periodically to charge especially before winter but it wasn't until this spring when I had a dead battery on my truck that I found out the GB70 wouldn't work so I tried my son's GB40 and had the same issue and finally I did get my wifes to work. I have noticed others had the same issue when I googled the problem. Bought these for piece of mind so we wouldn't get stranded out somewhere but now I just have 2 very expensive rechargeable flashlights. Very disappointed
Product works and is easy to use. You can get 4-5 jumps on a midsize car like a Toyota Camry for example with a 4 cylinder engine. No where close to 20. The biggest problem though, you CANNOT store this in your vehicle in warm weather states that get over 90 degrees on average. I live in Florida and the temperature inside my vehicle with a sun shade still well over 140 degrees and this will ruin your jump pack. So the pack becomes pointless because you can't keep it in your vehicle. Now you have to take it with you every time you go somewhere. Wanna go to the beach for a few hours? Can't do that, pack will get to hot. Driving back and forth to work, take it with you inside your job if allowed but what if you forget it at home or at work? To much of a hassle for a ... MoreProduct works and is easy to use. You can get 4-5 jumps on a midsize car like a Toyota Camry for example with a 4 cylinder engine. No where close to 20. To much of a hassle for a safety hazard that only comes with a 30 day warranty... not worth it. Bottom line, this jump pack is not safe to keep in your car during warm weather.
