The 80mm fans have four pins (direct for a motherboard header). [Unlike the smaller 60mm fans that have three pins and a 4-pin molex adapter which are not quite as good]This 80mm fan is very well engineered and manufactured, and is about as silent as you’ll find. It’s quiet at higher speeds too but with the increased airflow you get the inherent airflow noise of course.New to Noctua but very very impressed with my four Noctua purchases so far.The rubber mounting pieces are brilliant and should be standard for ALL computer fans. The included low-speed fan adapters are a great idea, although I didn’t need them as my motherboard has enough speed control.Would I buy this fan again? Fast despatch and delivery. What more can be said about Noctua fans. We know they are one of, if not, the best available. Great airflow, very quite and with low noise adapters will suite any need.

My old dell xps8700 was yelling at me and worried about leaving the ailing CPU fan to it's own devices, thought I'd better do something about it. After some research and hearing Noctua were a great buy, i bought one. Fitting was easy, just check your MOBO connector and fan was delivered in a ridiculously fast time. I mean seriously, this has to be a record....I thing it was about 17 hours. Well done. My ears are at peace again.

I bought this to be an exhaust fan on a server for my home lab. I work in the room that the server will be place, so it needed to be quiet. These are! You will not be disappointed! When they are running, I can not hear them. My office/server room is in my loft and in the summer it can get quite hot. These really help keep things cool. Worth every penny!
The 80mm CPU cooler fan on the six-year-old Cooler Master Cooler finally lost its ability to change speeds and turned into a server like fan - never idling and running full tilt at 3000 plus rpm - what a racket! Heard good things about Noctua so decided to give this 80mm fan a try. Great choice. Silence! Motherboard 4-pin fan header picked the new fan up and now there is silence with amazing cooling! Simply transferred the fan clips to the Noctua fan and was back up running in less than 10 minutes. Did I write "SILENCE!" Motherboard reports CPU temps at 27-30 degrees idle and 40 degrees playing full 1080p 60hz videos for more than an hour. Never reached 50 degrees playing Far Cry 5. Would buy this Noctua fan again. Highly recommended.
I bought a used SuperMicro server and it came with seven 80mm fans. It sounded like a jet was sitting in my basement... even after adjusting the fans to the lowest setting. I replaced the stock fans with seven of these. I had to do a little modding to get them to fit into the hot-swap trays and add some flex tape to seal up the air leaks (the stock fans are ~38mm thick while these are only 25mm). The temps are a little higher now, but still well within spec. Now it doesn't sound like someone's vacuuming the basement floor.
Replaced the case fans of my DS1511+ with these and it is super silent now again (original fans were broken). Although they do not support synology's' proprietary fan lock check, one can ground the fan check PIN (the yellow cable) by connecting it to the DS1511+s' case to work around this. I used some jumper cables that I purchased for the raspberry pi to do so, then one has not to solder anything. This is rather a synology issue than one of these fans.
I purchased this fan because a friend had recommended it. I was sceptical at first, but it's totally worth it and you will not be disappointed.I had 3 fans feeding from a 12V rails spinning at 2000 RPM ALL THE TIME. They were loud and also produced audible "pressure" when the PC was on. These fans are PWM enabled, meaning that motherboard will automatically spin them faster or slower depending on the CPU temperature or internal case temperature. Currently they are spinning at 600 RPM and I literally cannot even tell the PC is on.
These particular fans that I just ordered have only been spinning away in my case for a few hours, but I've got about 3 years of use on a previous pair of 80mm Noctua fans, and I packed 4 of these guys into an old Cooler Master Wavemaster case a few years ago that's notoriously warm as PC cases go. All operated flawlessly for 3+ years before one thing or another took the computer out of use. If you need a fan that works every time, all the time, this is your guy. If you want to save a buck there are many other options that work almost as well. It is really nice, however, to pack the Y-cables and such away in your PC parts kit in case it comes up in the future that you happen to need one. The Y-cables work with any 4-pin fan so they're good to have around.
