Nordace Siena - Smart Backpack - Black

3.9 stars. I have had this Sienna backpack for year now. I have used it on one, 3 country international trip as an extra clothes bag, on 5 short domestic trips and every day as my workbag. It still looks great, is comfortable and you can definitely pack two days of non bulky clothes, one pair of easy to squish shoes in there, a 5x6 inch, flat laying toiletries bag in the front side pocket, and your wallet and a hairbrush. However, it does get really heavy and if you pack to much it can pull you back a bit since it has no chest strap. The straps are thankfully well made. The biggest issue I have right now is that even if the bag isn't super full the laptop section zipper no longer stays closed. It unzips as I walk. I bought this bag (Green) back in August 2021 as needed a decent bag for work to protect my laptop & keep all my work things organised. I was only going to the office once a week at that point, but very quickly I started using it for personal use too. Its such a useful bag if going out for the day somewhere, as so much space for 'just in case' items such as a raincoat etc, & I always know I have space to carry items home if I make spur of the moment purchases. The key tether & sunglasses pouch are a great idea - both are items I would usually regularly misplace, but I haven't lost either once since having this bag, as I keep both in the bag at all times when not using them. The waterproof pocket is also a fantastic feature, stops a wet umbrella getting everything else damp if unable to dry it out whilst on the go, & also great for just stashing quick grab items that I use alot. I was sceptical that the vegan leather zip pulls would last, however, after nearly 2 years they are almost like new. Same with the top handle, which is reinforced with material behind it. My only faults with it are that it is a tad bulky for day to day use, esp if in shops, as it sticks out a bit, and with regular use does 'fill out' beyond the 16cm measurements. It could also do with a few pen holder loops. Also one side of the main zip has developed a fault where the teeth no longer knit together if I want to zip it away from the water bottle, but the other zipper does close it when zipping in the other direction, which isn't very practical as I always use the bottle holder, which now makes it fiddly when needing to open the main compartment when on the go. But am still able to use it. I'd recommend this bag still though, as nearly 2 years of being used nearly every day for both work & play, it still does the job. Because of the zip fault, I've just ordered the new Pro 13 bag (shame it doesnt come in green) as a replacement for work use. But will continue to use this one for personal use.

Very nice, though I cannot seem to get as much in it as is advertised. Haven't used this yet for travel, but I have used it for University. Not great for lots of books but if you only have a few classes and are just carrying notebooks it should be fine. The laptop compartment is nice but I have discovered a MAJOR flaw with the design, If you have too much weight (I.E. more than 2 books) in the main compartment the weight of the bag causes the laptop compartment to open. I have had this happen several times with and without the laptop in my bag. Not sure if a flaw with the zipper or the compartment design, but it is a BIG issue. I have had to get a small clip to keep the compartment shut. Cons: Laptop compartment opens on its own, Zippers are not water-resistant, Not a lot of capacity if used for school, charging cord too long and cumbersome.

I ordered this for a 17 day trip to Italy. I was looking for something comfortable, stylish, and spacious, since I was only taking the backpack and a carry on. This product was recommended by a friend, so I was eager to try it. However, the night before my trip, I went to pack and the one seam inside of a pocket ripped. Since I hadn’t used the product and the string began to unravel, I reached out to customer service. They were helpful and gave me 15% back which I appreciated. Other than that, the product itself was amazing. I fit shoes, journals, many charging cables, a camera, a lightweight jacket, and much more (with space to be filled!) quite easily. It also arrived (to Australia) earlier than the estimated time and has no faults. It really fits a lot..... - The bit to clip your keys in one of the front pocket is awesome - no longer need to dig my hand into the bottom of other bags where the keys usually fall to - There's actually two separate front pockets (one on the right and one on the left) and in each of them there are still more little pocket compartments for little things like earphones, lens cloths, masks, usb wires. Very handy to know where everything is. - The separate laptop section is great (I do not bring laptops around but I do have A4 sleeve folders and clipboards to bring which I use in the laptop section) as it means I don't have to worry about messing up all the other things in my bag when accessing the flat folders and can slip them back easily in the bag. - It looks very professional and I can use it for work as well as socially so no more changing bags around. - Even though I put the bag on the floor at work and while on public transport the black bits of the straps really doesn't catch dust and remains very clean looking. What can improve - The side pocket for water bottle is way too small and can only fit a really skinny bottle despite the elastic. And even when it fits it is difficult to just stick the bottle back in the side pocket with one hand. This is not an issue for me as I always carry a fat 1L bottle INSIDE the bag anyway so now have used the side pocket for a small hand-sanitiser instead. I guess it is made that way for aesthetic purposes - Bag is slightly water resistant like they advertise and the inside doesn't get wet if walking in sprinkling rain only for a short time but once it does get wet on the outside it takes quite a long time to fully become dry again (unlike say hiking gear) - While the zippers are good quality, when you stick your hand into the front pockets the zippers can scratch your hand a bit as they are quite rough (especially if you jam pack the bag and don't have much space anymore) but that's a minor inconvenience only! - Some other people have mentioned that the bag doesn't lock as the zippers don't allow you to put a lock on it - this doesn't bother me as I am not using it to travel but I can see why it can be an issue if bringing it on a plane. Plus, I do like to be able to hang keyrings on zippers (which I cannot now!) I love the bag and really if I can choose again I'll still buy it (maybe two, for when I feel like a change of colour!)

Overall - Fine for business travel if you don't need a lot of space. Fabric, zippers and handles are holding up well after a year of use. Additional padded straps are not worth the effort. There is a place on the shoulder straps that they could attach if the velcro was smaller. I may have to cut them down because adjusting them is annoying.

I love this backpack. I travel a lot for work and this fits everything I need for an entire week conference, and is the exact dimensions to fit under the seat on a plane. I love the padded back pocket for the laptop, and the front zips down the side mean that I can access things such as purse, phone, keys etc easily with the bag still on one shoulder. I'm surprised to see other reviews complaining about the bottle holder, mine hold my chilly's bottle just fine. The only downside is that over the years, the handle at the top has started to tear the top fabric of the bag. I think this has been fixed in their other new backpack which is specifically designed for travel, since that handle is in a different place. I’ve done so much traveling this past year, I can now write a review on this backpack. The pros, it’s very comfortable to carry on your shoulders. The laptop pocket is very convenient for my IPad, especially for going through TSA. In the main compartment, I use a packing cube for a lightweight jacket and extra clothes. I have plenty of room leftover for my Bose headphones and other small items. In the zippered plastic pocket, I keep the more valuable items in, it’s easy to get things in and out of. The back two side pockets, I use it for less valuable convenient things, such as face masks, sanitary wipes and etc. At times I used the security hidden pocket for extra money and credit cards. My only concern is when traveling in Phuket on the boat rides, the zippers got “sticky”. I used chapstick to lubricate the zippers, which worked. The backpack is a nice size for travel, fitting under the airplane seat, and to use for a daypack. One other thing, I did glue some foam rubber on the bottom of the laptop pocket to protect the IPad from the backpack hitting the floor.

I just had fitted two travel beauty cases of 8.5" x 5.1" x 3 and 11" x 6.5" by 3.4" , and one travel documents pouch of another 6 x 10 inches and that is it. With these three items I cannot use any interior pockets and I have difficulty pushing them in as it is not deep and no room for stretching. I can use only the plastic pocket. I have fitted a 13" macbook pro and an ipad into the computer pocket and with that I cannot use the external back pocket simply my iPhone 12 pro max does not fit in. There is another version and you might ask why not take the upgraded version which they say it is slightly bigger, well it seems to me that one has the main compartment pocket zipper which open fully up to the bottom while the siena 1 open only half the size of the backpack which is what I was specifically looking for.
