A Serious Pre & Post Workout Recovery Tool

I work out on a consistent basis at least 3 times a week. Most of my workouts this past week have consisted of leg strength/muscle building exercises (e.g. squats, romanian deadlifts, leg extensions, lunges, leg presses, calf raises, air squats, squat jumps, burpees), a mix of 3 to 7 mile runs, and a ton of rowing on a concept 2 RowErg machine. This past week, I deliberately increased the intensity and volume of any given leg workout in an attempt to build as much lactic acid as possible to put the Normatec 3 Leg system to the test. For those considering this leg compression system, you'll be happy to know that the construction and build quality is extremely top notch. For the last couple of years, I have used a more inexpensive leg compression recovery system from a much less well known manufacturer. The difference is night and day. This Normatec 3 leg compression system feels like a tool that you'd find at your physical therapist's office. The hose attachment system along with the fabric used for the leg inserts feel very premium and well constructed. Both leg attachment hoses and the main hose that connects to the control unit snap perfectly into place. The control unit itself also feels very premium and sturdy. I love the very simple and uncluttered layout of the physical buttons. One of my favorite things about this leg compression system is the length of the leg inserts. This easily spans my entire leg all the way from my hips to my toes. I've seen other leg recovery systems (including the one I own and have been using for the last couple of years) which barely reach halfway up my quad. This Normatec 3 leg system completely envelops my legs and is a massive difference in terms of the areas it's able to target as compared to my previous leg compression system. I also love that it's able to cover my feet in its entirety so that my feet can also get some relief. In terms of performance, I am extremely impressed. This almost makes my previous leg compression system feel like a toy. The amount of pressure as well as the different muscle groups, or "zones", that this Normatec 3 targets is unrivaled. I usually use pressure levels 3 to 5. Pressure level 5 already provides my legs all the compression I need (or would want). Anything higher and I'm not sure that I can tolerate that level of compression yet. When using the Normatec 3, the hyperice mobile app is a must in my opinion. While the physical control unit provides you with all basic modes of operation (like changing the pressure and using different zones to target specific areas), the hyperice app has several pre-customized routines that you can select depending on the type of exercise you were engaged in. I've been using the "post workout recovery" and the "post run recovery" routines the most. The routines are fairly long (45 minutes each) but they are well worth it. Typically when I expose my legs to the level of intensity and volume that I've put them through this past week, the muscle fatigue and soreness is very apparent (to the point where I'm limping). While I still feel some minor level of soreness, the difference is readily apparent. At no point have I felt that I've had to give my legs significant rest from working out. There was definitely a level of "freshness" in my legs that I normally dont experience under this level of physical stress. While I realize that everybody's body reacts differently to different treatments and also the amount of time it takes to recover varies for everyone, I am fully convinced that for me there has been a significant improvement in post workout recovery since using the Normatec 3.Overall, I think this is an outstanding product for either the serious athelete or even just the casual gym-goer who is serious about their physical well being. I have struggled to really find any cons. The hose attachment system has plenty of length, the control unit is rechargeable, the battery easily lasts through at least 3 full length routines, the leg inserts are comfy and fit well, and the entire system is portable enough to take on the go. If I really had to find a gripe, it would probably have to be the pre-set time intervals. They are in increments of 15 minutes. The lowest setting on the control unit I was able to set was 15 minutes (although I guess you could always just press the "start/stop" button if you want a shorter time control). However, it would be nice to manually set a specific time. I tried doing so on the Hyperice app and I was not able to manually set a custom time. A great bonus would have been if Hyperice included a travel case for this system. All in all, this product pleasantly suprised me. I think this is a fantastic tool to add to your fitness arsenal if you're serious about pre and post workout recovery to make the most of your workouts.

Wow, why didn't I buy these two years ago?!? I'm a 56-year old guy who took up tennis a bit over two years ago. Needless to say, if I had a day with multiple matches I would be limping around for the next few days, regardless of the amount of stretching I did post workout. I did notice that a massage aided in recovery, and after getting a recommendation on this leg recovery system from my massage therapist and from a few friends that do serious running/biking that use them, I pulled the trigger and bought them.Oh my word, GAME CHANGER!!! After a day of 2-3 hours of tennis, I do a 45 minute recovery session at 50% intensity, and when I get up the next morning it is like I had taken a rest day from tennis the previous day. This is my first Hyperice product, I have been brand loyal on my earlier sports therapy products and am pretty happy with my first try of Hyperice's product. Now I am eager to try their other products!I have three criteria that I always look for on the sports therapy products - durability, configurability/customization, and how innovative the product is on pain treatment - aka what tests/research they did do to pick on what to improve on their product. Normatec 3 Legs technology is definitely a significant improvement on the product I current use, and competes with new products that are in the market offering similar features.1) Design and Durability - Definitely built to last. Premium material, zippered legs with different compaction zones, and designed to fit all leg sizes (S/M/L) and pretty good battery life. The good part is the overlapping configurable compression zones that I didn't see in other recovery boots that I tried before. Easy to clean, lightweight and can be packed in a small backpack for on-the-go use. It allows you to activate only 4 zones if you have shorter legs, and not have to worry about zipping up the boots to the very end.2) Features - What I like about this product is the customization it offers on the recovery boots. The handheld controller has few settings - pressure level, zone booster, and time selection, but the app (Bluetooth) itself offers few extra settings (see the attached pics) that are not available on the handheld controller which I found extremely helpful to target my sore calf muscles. This feature itself is worth upgrading the product and it specifically allows you to target sore muscles post workouts. Also, the app has specific routines that you can pick from - warm up, post workout recover, sore muscle treatment, etc. Now I started to use the recovery boots as warm up before my endurance runs and started to notice my recovery time has dropped with this routine.3) Technology - 7 levels of compression, patented pulse technology along with overlapping compression zones and zone booster designed to mimic the natural muscle pumps to increase blood circulation. I used my previous recovery boots for 45 minutes and I reduced my recovery time to 30 mins and am able to get back to my usual activities with the shorter recovery time. I will have to test this for few more months to see if their tech has prolonged effect on muscle recovery and reduce my cramps post endurance runs. I have seen several products that overwhelm users with information, settings, configuration, etc. and what I love about this product is their app and controller is amazingly simple and delivers the right information that you really care about.I highly recommend Normatec 3 Legs for someone who is more serious about their recovery and sore muscle treatment post workouts. It does help reduce long term damage to muscles which are irreversible for the most part. I am eager to try their Hyperice X and Venom leg to treat my sore knees after endurance runs.

Amazing for health, wellness and body recovery
20 July 2022

I am a multi-sport athlete, working out and training 5 to 6 days a week, and I put a lot of physical stress on my body. For me, I need to have a quick recovery so I can continue with my daily tasks. This compression boot system does an excellent job of rapid recovery, maximizing performance, improving training, and overall wellness. When someone exercise, their body builds up lactic acid and other metabolites as byproducts; also, there are microscopic tissue damage and fatigue. All of these happening in the body results in muscle soreness and pain. After a hard training or workout, I sometimes experience difficulty walking (legs feel heavy) and sometimes even sitting down. Compression boots work by helping the body squeeze the lactic acid, inflammation, and all metabolites out of your legs and back into the heart; afterward, they get metabolized and eliminated.Using the system is easy (plug & play), charge the device, download the app, insert the leg into the leg compressor, and attach the connector to the junction box and air outlet. You can use only one leg attachment compressor if you desire, but note that there is the extra step requiring the use of a blocking plug on the hose not being used. One can operate the system with just the control unit, which allows for attachment type selection (arm, hip, or leg), pressure level, ZoneBoost, time adjustment, display screen, and start/stop button. With the app, you get the best experience, with preset routine settings or self-customizable.Available routines/settings: post-workout recovery, post-run recovery, improve your sleep, freshen your legs, activate your legs, long day unwind, pre-run warm up, pre workout warm up. There is also a similar arms routine, but you would need the arm attachment sold separately, which I will get. There are five zones on the leg boot: (1) foot, (2) calf, (3) knee, (4) lower quad, and (5) upper quad. The routine preset setting or manual control allows for Zone Boost, which concentrates or gives extra (time or pressure) to one or more zones. How the system compresses the leg varies by routine. The first pump fills up all the zones in a sequence, and then it releases the air; I think the system feels the legs to know the required pressure. The compression starts from the feet and gradually moves up to the upper thighs. Depending on the selected routine, the compression sequence will vary. Also, the compression creates a pulsation movement from the feet to the upper thighs and repeats this a couple of times. What this compression does is pushes more of the fluids in the extremities up to the upper body, so it gets flushed out.It feels AMAZING! Not exaggerating; my legs feel rejuvenated. Fantastic product to fight muscle soreness and get back in the game; now do more of what you love.Portable, depending on the duration and routine, the battery can give you two or more sessions. The boots are incredibly high-tech material, rugged, and well built. To conclude, the Normatec compression boots make a quick, easy-to-use, portable, and enjoyable muscle recovery.

Great recovery air system, poor design
20 July 2022

My wife and I try to run/power walk everyday at home on our treadmill. She likes to walk briskly for about 30 minutes, I run about 1.5 miles twice a day. After these types of workouts we need to have some sort of relief for our legs at night. Enter the Hyperice Normatec 3. This is a compression air system to help provide relief, “recover faster, improve your training and maximize performance.” Sounds nice but when we actually utilize it, we are completely in agreement to their promise. Each leg is placed in these leg attachments where, when powered on, air slowly fills in and begins to compress around you. It begins in the feet area and moves up to the ankles, shins, calves, knees, quads, hamstrings. It begins in the feet area and moves up to the ankles, shins, calves, knees, quads, hamstrings. It goes in that order from the bottom, frontside, backside on up. By doing that it focuses on specific muscle groups providing the much needed relief through several pulses and pressed air. Their aim is to reduce the swelling of your muscles. The power controller is situated at the top of the attachments, a design flaw in my opinion (I will get more into that later). The Normatec 3 uses 7 levels of compression and pulse technology where the air compression creates a massage that helps you feel refreshed. There are also 5 overlapping zones that they call ZoneBoost to like I mentioned before, focus on those particular muscle groups. To enhance your experience, the Hyperice app is a must addition to your workout. The app has several different sessions: from pre-workout, post workout and improve your sleep. Note that many of these sessions are for other Hyperice devices. What is great about the app is that you can utilize your phone to control the session via Bluetooth. You simply pair your phone to the control panel and there you go. Your phone has to be very close to the controller in order for this to work. On the app you have the timer to see your progress, and can control the pressure and zone(s).So, my only complaint and why I gave it 4 stars ja because of the controller attachment. It is located at the top of the attachments which means it is in the way and cumbersome to have when you are utilizing the Normatec 3. You can’t have it lay on you and it feels weird placing it to your side where the chords are just lying on you, so you have to put it in between your legs. It is also quite heavy, a very illogical design decision. Yes the controller can work without it plugged into the power adapter and you have 3 hours of usage before you need to recharge. Still, a very poor design for this.Overall, I feel that the Hyperice Normatec 3 is one of the best compression air recovery systems in the market. Just that one design flaw prevents me from giving it a full 5 star rating.

Great recovery for less money than before!
28 July 2022

I’ve been using the previous generation Normatec leg sleeves for a couple years now for recovery and they’ve been fantastic. The new Normatex 3s provide the same great recovery benefits (with some upgrades) and best of all, they’re $200 cheaper. The Normatec 3 leg sleeves provide air compression which can aid in preventing lactic acid buildup in your legs after long or intense workouts. These shouldn’t necessarily be thought of as providing a massage, more compression and stimulating blood flow and something that can increase the benefits is elevating your legs when using them.A big upgrade in my opinion with the Normatec 2s vs the previous generation is the control unit where the interface is improved quite a bit (and quite frankly is just prettier than before) ... MoreI’ve been using the previous generation Normatec leg sleeves for a couple years now for recovery and they’ve been fantastic. These shouldn’t necessarily be thought of as providing a massage, more compression and stimulating blood flow and something that can increase the benefits is elevating your legs when using them.A big upgrade in my opinion with the Normatec 2s vs the previous generation is the control unit where the interface is improved quite a bit (and quite frankly is just prettier than before) where there’s simple but informative indicators for battery status, amount of pressure, duration, as well as a Zone Boost feature which allows you to fine tune where pressure is being applied if you want to target one particular zone. In addition there’s also a selection on the control unit to use it with Normatecs other compression sleeves for hips and arms. The sleeves themselves also are improved where there’s less “dead-spots” with the compression. The previous generation sleeves had a few spots in between each zone where there wasn’t much compression. With the new sleeves, they’ve overlapped the zones to eliminate the dead spots and provide even coverage and this is probably one of my favorite things about these updated sleeves.Where it gets more capable is when you pair it with the Hyperice app where you can use “routines” which are fine-tuned for your particular activities and recovery. The only complaint I have here though is that the bluetooth connectivity from the unit to the app was a little hit and miss where it usually took 2-3 times to connect to the unit. Not sure if that was my phone or the unit but just thought I would mention it.The improvements from the previous generation are all nice to see but again, the nicest thing about these new versions is that they are much cheaper and more accessible. Highly recommended!

Love these boots and the great features

These compression boots are great! They were recommended from the facility I receive Stretch Therapy. (Rachel at StretchFusion is awesome — tell her Suzi referred you!). Super easy to connect and begin using. BestBuy doesn’t carry the short (or tall) boots which is the only negative thing I can say — would have been a better, more customized fit for me. That said, the standard length did fine. The Normatec 3 is a great compression system with 7 pressure levels (it is important to not get eager and to start with a lower level — level 1 gives quite a bit of pressure). The 5 zones of “zone boost” are especially helpful and I was able to focus additional pressure on my upper quad. The power unit is heavy and obviously durable. The iOS app was nice and quick to set up. ... MoreThese compression boots are great! They were recommended from the facility I receive Stretch Therapy. NORMATEC 3 Eh

I am an avid Ultra endurance athlete and was doing an Ironman one week and the next week a 100 mile ultramarathon. Purchased this in that week in between races hoping it would help freshen my legs up for the long run. To be completely honest I thought it would do more. Compression therapy definitely helps with recovery but it didn’t help as much as I thought it would. I thought the pressure of the compression would be a lot more than what it actually provided. Also the battery life on it isn’t that great. You will have to leave it plugged in for the best result. These units are expensive too. I think after tax it was in the $850 ballpark. There are a bunch of other cheaper options out there, and I have no idea about the quality of those products, but if you have ... MoreI am an avid Ultra endurance athlete and was doing an Ironman one week and the next week a 100 mile ultramarathon. Ultimately your diet, (with an emphasis on protein/carb intake, Micro nutrients and hydration) and rest will offer the fastest recovery times. All the fancy doo dads like this out here offer some extra help, but not a life changing amount. If you have the money, and you think this slight advantage in recovery can make a difference for you, I would suggest it. Otherwise I would try a cheaper unit just to see how your body reacts before making a large purchase like this. I would rate it 3.3/5 stars

Quiet, configurable, and highly effective!

The Normatec 3 leg compression therapy system is definitely something that any athlete should try out! The system is very lightweight, highly configurable, modular, and easy to setup and use. The pump & control module is surprisingly ergonomic to hold while selecting your settings and the battery lasts a long time! Like, I have used them 4-5 times at 60 minutes, 5/7 pressure and it still has one of the five lights lit up! The charger is compact and the box the system comes in doubles as a storage/carrying case! A very nice feature for something that you'll definitely want to bring with you for races and other competitions! I have been using the leg boots for post-ride recovery and it shaves a solid day off my recovery time after long bike rides and longer runs. The modular approach was a solid decision by the team at Hyperice, as this allows you to configure and use the compression system to suit your needs and expand its offerings at a later time, adding the arm or hip attachments or just being able to single out one leg at a time, this is one incredibly versatile system! The biggest highlight I would say is the noise level, this is whisper quiet and will not distract from your favorite TV show or coworkers in a quiet office, if you choose to compress while you work (I do for the time saving benefit and why not while sitting at my desk).Overall, I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking to get a little extra performance and recovery from their body before or after athletic activity. They are totally worth the price to have this level of convenience and recovery available without having to schedule an appointment at a sport clinic!

It’s like the blood pressure monitor cuff. It uses dynamic air compression to recover sore muscles by increasing the circulation and reduce swelling after rigorous workout or hike. It has 7 levels of compression that can adjusted in app or in the controller. It also has 5 overlapping zones with ZoneBoost and adjustable time options. There are more options when controlled via mobile app.Download the hyperice app from Appstore. Create an account by entering personal details and questionnaire. Once done, turn on the controller for the Bluetooth to be recognized by app. Had 2 firmware updates as soon as it connects and suggest not to turn off your device or phone during the update. You have various routines close to 30 different ones like inflammation management, constant therapy, cold therapy, post work recovery, nighttime relief, hot therapy and so on. You can control the time, start, stop change routines from the app interface. It’s a great device for athlete or anyone who is very active and need to warm up before workout or post workout. It also helps to relax after a long day with its massaging experience.Overall, it has more pros than cons and would recommend to anyone for faster recovery and massage.
