I cannot handle much sugar, and cane sugar is the worst. I've tried stevia and other sugar substitutes in my baking, but the taste is not appealing to me and leaves an aftertaste which definitely doesn't work when having guests. But I tried the xylitol powder, and it works! No aftertaste and tastes just like there's plenty of sugar in my creation. I used it for our family gathering on Easter and multiple evenings with guests over, and everyone thinks it's regular sugar. SUCCESS!

I think I like everything about the product. It met all expectations for flavor. I bought it for oral health after viewing Dr. Ellie Phillips presentation on 'yoo-tube'. I recognized the NOW brand which is normally very good quality. Cheaper versions may also be as good but I did not want to waste time and effort finding out. This product is very good. As for the rating on "sturdiness", I really don't know what that is referring to. I think it may suggest the product gets powderized, but mine was not. Very nicely sized crystals. Take a little longer to dissolve than sugar does.

I bought this package of xylitol to use for oral care and lower the need to buy much more expensive mints or gums. The latter are good for carrying and using away from home, but at home just a 1/4 teaspoon at a time can be dissolved in the mouth and then spit out. The purpose here is to suppress unwanted, plaque-forming bacteria while supporting good, non-acid producing strains.Xylitol is less sweet than sugar and gives a "cooling" feeling in the mouth as it dissolves. There are no other notable tastes or smells.

It’s great !! Good quality, works great as sugar substitute in most baking recipes, the only thing I’ve tried and worked less it’s meringue. But in caramel and baking it’s great. I even use a little less than sugar serving because it’s sweeter. I incorporate it on my diet frequently, the benefits are less calories of course, the packaging is great and good size. The only way that I can describe the taste is like - cold sugarWe love it
So, I don't often review products but truly have to share my joy over discovering this NOW xylitol. I just cannot drink my coffee plain. I need sugar, just a teaspoon and a spot of cream! I am a health coach who always looks for quality items that are not harmful to the body and actually taste good with minimal side effects. Xylitol has a low GI (glycemic index) so it won't spike blood sugar. This tastes JUST LIKE SUGAR!!! If you have never had or used xylitol, please read up on it as it may not be for you (can cause loose stool), this usually subsides over time. Xylitol is a natural non-processed sugar so there are no artificial ingredients. I like this brand and the cost is better here at Netrition. **please note...it is TOXIC to dogs** Do not let this deter you ... MoreSo, I don't often review products but truly have to share my joy over discovering this NOW xylitol. This is like a miracle for mouth health. I've recently started using it and already see positive changes. A proper dose for mouth health is 1 gram (about 1/5 to 1/4 teaspoon), used a minimum of 5 times a day (6-7 times is even better), after every meal, snack or drink of liquid, and then do not eat or drink anything else for 1-2 hours to allow it to work its magic in the mouth. (Swish around the mouth for up to 5 minutes.) This product is a great value. I researched the different sources of xylitol and feel much better about this one made from non-gmo corn cobs (that would otherwise be thrown out and wasted). I prefer to NOT choose the kind made from birch trees, since they strip the bark and the trees will end up dying. It makes no difference to the mouth whether ... MoreThis is like a miracle for mouth health. I've recently started using it and already see positive changes. It makes no difference to the mouth whether the xylitol comes from corn cobs or birch trees, so I choose to not cause unnecessary birch tree death. I choose the xylitol from non-gmo corn cobs! (By the way, it tastes so delicious...)
This Xyliyol tastes great, but it caused horrible GI Distress for me!! I've used other brands in the past that did not have horrible gastrointestinal effects on my system after eating them, so I thought I would try this 3 pack since it was a good deal. I made a recipe of keto donuts that turned out fantastic. I ate two of them and within 30 mins I started to feel extremely bloated. Then I had horrible diarrhea for the next 6 hours!! Horrible gas pains and abdominal cramping that lasted well into the next day. I thought maybe I had gotten a stomach bug or something and did not realize it was this brand of xylitol. Well, 3 weeks later I baked keto chocolate cupcakes. I ate one and it was amazing! But, within 30 mins I started to have the same reaction as before. Well, 3 weeks later I baked keto chocolate cupcakes. I ate one and it was amazing! But, within 30 mins I started to have the same reaction as before. The rest of my afternoon and evening were spent in the bathroom and on my bed in pain. Apparently, xylitol that is made with Corn tends to have that affect on people. I don't understand how this brand of xylitol got so many great reviews. I wish I could give the other two bags to some lucky person who doesn't have GI issues with this brand.
I didn't buy this to use as a sweetener, per se. I got it as a cheaper alternative to exclusively-xylitol-sweetened mints and gum. Just pop a half teaspoon into my mouth after meals. The downside is that the crystal form in a bag is not portable. It feeds the good guys in your oral microbiome. However, when the bad guys (cavity causing bacteria) try to use it for energy, they end up starving. To learn more about the benefits of xylitol for dental health, look up Ellie Phillips DDS.
Xylitol (zie-li-tol) is refined from hardwood trees. It's totally natural, even totally vegan if you're interested. It also is almost calorie-free, and is suitable for diabetics...in fact I recommend it over other non-sugar sweeteners. You can bake with it as well but be sure to check the temperature restrictions if any. I usually get the little packets of it from a different company, but got a hot deal on 3 one-pound bags online this time around. NOW foods is usually a reliable quality source for food and supplements, but the pocket or purse-friendly packets are from Emerald Forest. My uncle is a chemist and his job for all his working years with a paper company was to come up with a new use for their tree products every month. NOW foods is usually a reliable quality source for food and supplements, but the pocket or purse-friendly packets are from Emerald Forest. My uncle is a chemist and his job for all his working years with a paper company was to come up with a new use for their tree products every month. He knows about tree products, including DMSO, cellulose fiber supplements for human consumption, and knew about xylitol. All in all, since xylitol also has some anti-bacterial aspects as well (check out how dentists feel about your kids chewing xylitol-sweetened gum), it's a solid product for me as a diabetic person, as well as a person concerned about sugar abuse also. This crystal-like powder is a great way to get the taste you want with no after-taste, maybe one teaspoon or so on a bowl of cereal for example, and I highly recommend it, as long as it comes from the best hardwood trees and the label says it's ONLY just the xylitol itself, not other stuff added. I find that the response time, packaging and price made the NOW Foods version a great deal. I will buy it again.
diabetics here's a jewel for your pantry. xylitol is only 3 on the glycemic index, so it won't raise blood sugar. it is used does like sugar-cup to cup in recipes. it tastes like sugar with no bitter aftertaste. it is made from birch trees (organic) and tastes great in anything you would use sugar in or would like to replace sugar. if you are doing atkins-works great with atkins-because its low carbs, too. the only problem with xylitol is it can be pricey. I have paid the same price on these 3 pounds, for one pound in other stores. I was hooked on this purchase when I saw the price, it beats others hands down. I use this in all types of recipes and it works great. people who eat some of the dishes I make, can not tell there is no sugar in the recipe. so buy this ... Morediabetics here's a jewel for your pantry. xylitol is only 3 on the glycemic index, so it won't raise blood sugar. it is used does like sugar-cup to cup in recipes. it tastes like sugar with no bitter aftertaste. it is made from birch trees (organic) and tastes great in anything you would use sugar in or would like to replace sugar. if you are doing atkins-works great with atkins-because its low carbs, too. the only problem with xylitol is it can be pricey.
