I've been dealing with functional medicine doctors for 10 years and I know they all love NAC. I got my current doctor for my daughter, and he charges an insane amount since he has much experience. He advised using 1000mg NAC 3x/day. At first she did well and seemed to improve. The bottle said take up to 3x/d so I thought it was fine; she's a young adult. I take NAC specifically because I take a lot of NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, i.e. advil, aleve, motrin) due to pain. I was very worried about liver damage, and did my research on what could protect me in the long term. Since being pain free is not in my long term, I most likely will have to continue taking pain medicine which contains acetaminophen.This products does help. I get regular blood tests for liver function, and levels have never been high, or abnormal. I have been taking NAC almost everyday for the past 7 years, with absolutely no long term side effects.The pills are big, so beware.
