While i have a few qualms with this product, the versatility and affordability are both factors that make the NYX shadow crayons stand out. I have used this product as a lip liner, highlight, contour, cream eyeshadow/eyeshadow base, natural inner corner highlight (the shade yogurt), water line brightener, tight-liner, and smoky eyeliner. In fact, this is my go-to FOR more natural looks. That said, the longevity, inconsistency, and formula sometimes get on my nerves. Obviously i should mention that for the amount of product (off topic but i absolutely love that it can be sharpened and used anew) at this price point, it would be too much to ask for absolute perfection. But as this is an honest review I’d like to give praise and/or criticism wherever it is due. To start i find the product tends to smudge and lose pigment on long days which is annoying but not really that much of a deal breaker. There is also the fact that I’ve noticed some colors perform better than others which makes me hesitant to purchase any more. But what really grinds my gears is that the formula is extremely patchy and hard to blend, especially with the darker colors. This is not too noticeable for highlights or water lines but when it comes to eyeshadow —marketed as the product’s main purpose— I find it lacking. That said milk and yogurt have been long time regulars in even my travel bags and for the price I really can’t complain any more.

Awful! Needs sharpener and doesn't state on packaging. Waxy, crumbly, had to do a quick pass on the tip, with a lighter to get it soft enough to stick to my eye shadow brush. clumpy, settled in creases, felt sticky on my eye lids. So I tried to use it under my brow line as a bit of a highlight and I just tossed it in the trash. I was looking forward to using this pencil but I wasted my money. Sorry for the rant I'm just wishing to put myself back together, like so many others. Maybe it was old? Or maybe the white is just not like the other shades?

I purchased Milk, Cottage cheese, and yogurt. I love the colors, very easy to use. I would recommend for someone on a budget and wants a multi-use, on the go, easy product. However, I find that these are a better primer than actual eyeshadow. If you want something that is amazing and will work perfectly how you want it I'd look at something a little more prestige.I use this as a base for my powder eye shadows other wise it slips around and gets stuck in my eye crease. For a primer though I would highly recommend this. The shimmer ones make shimmer powders looks fuller and more shimmery and same with any matte or non-shimmer colors.I'd recommend for someone who has dryer-normal skin. Oily skin will definitely make this slip without a powder set.

I'll admit. I love the product inside the pencil. It works well as an eyeshadow base. However, I've had this for a pretty decent amount of time but nearly never use it. Why? Because I don't have the grip strength of a Burmese python holding onto a particularly delicious rat. I don't have the power of a fully grown silverback gorilla. I cannot twist with the force and fury of a thousand supernovae. Which seems to be a requirement to use more than just the little nubbin atop the pencil itself. I know there's more product in there. I have been scouring the internet for two hours trying to find an easier way to get at the sweet goodness of Jumbo Eye Pencil. But try as I might, it eludes me. I have been scouring the internet for two hours trying to find an easier way to get at the sweet goodness of Jumbo Eye Pencil. But try as I might, it eludes me. Sharpening this thing is like trying to extract Excalibur from the stone. One must have the royal lineage of Camelot to experience the privilege of applying this. Even with the advice to freeze it, to use the NYX brand dual sided sharpener, to turn it just so, and to sell my soul to the Devil himself... I can't sharpen this. The callouses I have on my hands from years of opening up soda bottles have been shredded by this seemingly innocuous eye pencil. I am sitting in tears, one eye half finished, as my mangled pencil sits in the freezer yet again in the hopes of making it accessible to me. No one else in my house has conquered the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil, either. I know it is not just a moral failing on my part.In all seriousness, the design choice of using a smooth, semi-hard plastic instead of something like wood is, in my opinion, abysmal. I wasn't kidding about the callouses, or the fact that I am literally crying in frustration. Does anyone have any advice besides "You can use a sharpener!" because at this point I'm ready to painstakingly scrape it out and put it in a pot so I can apply it with a brush. I've learned that you can pry off the non-functional end of the pencil with pliers and push it out, so if the new sharpener I ordered doesn't work I'm gonna try that and give an update. As nice as this product is, really not worth the trouble of actually using it.
I like a soft chunky pencil, and was excited with the perfect eggplant color! Unfortunately, I assumed- because the pencil is clearly plastic, and the packaging is not clear at all that to GET AT the whole thing you HAVE TO SHARPEN OFF THE >PLASTIC< (whose not brilliant idea was that?)- that it would twist up. Like every other reviewer who mentions this feature, I find this design to be absolutely trash. Firstly because no one would expect this and the packaging does not clarify it, and secondly because even if you DO already own a sharpener that can manage it, you can never get the last bit out. While another reviewer gave a solution for extracting and potting the color, which is super resourceful, I actually wanted a soft-color pencil. With all the negative feedback and poor communication in the packaging, I really feel NYX should be sending people a refund or coupon for purchase price toward another product until they redesign this clear dud. On the upside, the product consistency is very versatile and the colors are great. Would welcome a "We want to make this right" action from the company! In the meantime will likely keep looking for this perfect color in another brand of twist-up pencil.
I love the size of it. If you've ever had to use a ton of eyeliner on your entire lid for a look you know it's a. Not the most comfortable and b. Takes a long time to apply. Perk of this is that they weren't kidding when they said jumbo. The product goes on so creamy it almost pushes the product around if you go in too thick. Maybe it's a different story when applied over powder shadow. I will agree with the sloppy application. You have to be careful unless you're smoking it out. I don't think using it as a eyeliner is feasible because of the creaminess even though it does thicken up on its own as it settles. I haven't used light shades but if you're using it for dark shades it HAS to be set. I do like how it blends with powder shadows. Once it's set it's not going ... MoreI love the size of it. I'll definitely be buying it again and in other shades and I WOULD recommend it but I think it's a better primer.
I bought this because I didn't want a powder shadow and it looked easy to apply and I loved the color. But once it's worn down it doesn't twist up. I tried everything to twist it up to get more product out. So then I searched how to twist the rest of the product out. I need to buy a special sharpener. COME ON!!! What a waste. Make a product that doesn't force you to buy a second product to use. That's wasteful and greedy. I can just buy a different brand where I can actually use the whole product for the same price as the sharpener. I won't buy this again. There are too many similar products out there that don't trick you. In fact, I may not buy NYX anymore. That's just shady.
NYX took a pencil/crayon product with a universally recognized use scenario: if it’s a wood casing, you SHARPEN it. And if it’s a plastic casing you TURN it…And then NYX added a crazy wrinkle: you must sharpen the plastic casing! With a special sharpener! Sold separately, of course!Even crazier, NYX doesn’t warn you that you must buy a sharpener. There’s nothing mentioned in the packaging or in the display. (I bought mine at CVS.)Third, while the product I dug out of the plastic casing* melted nicely into a little tin, it isn’t the same application I got as a crayon.. it just feels and works better as a crayon.*I had to dig out the eyeshadow because I was too dumb to realize I needed to visit this website to learn I must sharpen the plastic container.
I was gifted these by Nyx and I've used them a few times now and worn them during work shifts.Starting with the positives:Very pigmented, especially Milk. They blend well both as individual products and together to create different shades and tones. I liked using Milk to lighten by eyeshadow and Black Bean worked well on the lower lash line. I gave 3 stars instead of two I originally wanted to (these were frustrating to work with), because I was complimented on my lower lash line in Superdrug and the lady asked what product I'd used (Jumbo eye pencils in Black Bean & Milk).A little goes a long way, I've done 5 eye looks with these pencils and still don't need to sharpen them.Negatives:If you have hooded eyes like me, don't use these on your eye lids. They crease almost instantly after application, by the time I'd finished my left eye, the right lid was a creased greasy mess. They're greasy and never 'set' so they'll easily smudge throughout the day. I had to set them with eyeshadow, so I felt that I might as well have used eyeshadow to begin with. Black Bean blends out quite patchy and it doesn't retain it's strong pigmentation (becomes washed out). Takes a lot of practise to be able to build up the colour without removing what's already been laid down. Even with primer, on oily skin these break down after a couple of hours. If you don't set these with powder, they feel very heavy and greasy on the skin. Not sure I'd buy these for myself.
The NYX Jumbo eye shadow pencil in the shade Yogurt is such a pretty creamy pink with a shimmery look. It glides onto the eyelids smoothly and evenly without any dragging or pulling on the skin. It is very wearable and suits my fair skin tone perfectly. I love that it is build able so you can wear as a subtle look or you can make it bolder by simply adding more layers. The colour stays on your eyelids all day without any smudging, creasing or fading. For the price it is a bargain and I would recommend. When purchasing remember that you need a pencil sharpener with a bigger hole to re sharpen.
