Oakley DRT5 MIPS Helmet M / Hunter Green - Retina Grey 2022

Pros: Great look, quality construction, love the boa system, comfortable. Cons: I absolutely hate the chin strap adjustment, it’s by far the weakest design of the whole helmet and needs to be scrapped from the design, absolutely awful design. My Oakley Latch Beta sunglasses barely stay in the sunglass holder. Oakley says they’ll work with any of their glasses, not true at all. Overall really good product but I won’t buy another one if they don’t solve that awful chin strap adjustment

Fit is everything

Please remember that FIT is more important for helmets than any other gear. If it fits, wear it. Traditionally, Bell and Fox have fit better than GIRO for me, your mileage may vary.Features - BOA ratchet - nice and non-intrusive. I do note the lack of big plastic head holders along/behind the ear that are usually part of the fitment system for a lid. Adjustment is good, feels good on the trail.Silicone sweat gutter/pad/thing - so far, so good. Coming into the sweaty season now. Running just this up front and one pad at the top...I do notice that there is more sweat shaking out of the helmet in general than with the usual padded setups, and the habit of stopping to "juice" the helmet pads yields nada. MIPS

Price on this helmet was soo cheap! Bought it for my daughter who is just getting more hardcore and needed better head protection!! MIPS was a huge selling point!! Only flaws - silicone pad at front helmet ( came with a replacement foam pad) and little MIPS silicone connectors caught her hair. Easy fix with some extra foam pads!!

Not bad

I got this helmet mainly because it was on sale and fits larger heads quite well. I was happy to see how light it is compared to the normal DRT5, and the ventilation is good. That being said, the construction feels a bit cheap and I don’t think the internal webbing is very solid (ie. feels like it’s going to fall of my head no matter how tight I have the BOA and strap. The paint on the visor is already wearing off on the lip, after a couple of weeks. Also, one of the sunglasses clips doesn’t grab as well as the other - so I need to make sure the sunglasses are ceased very well. At full price, there are definitely better options out there.

Pinches temple area

I purchase a medium size helmet a couple months back and finally took it out of the packaging a few days ago. I notice right away that the helmet was not comfortable. It pinch my head by the temple area. I had to use my old Fox helmet. I was attracted to this helmet by the styling and discounted price from $200 to $75. The helmet is now a $75 dust collector.

Silicone sweat guard is awesome!

Nice fitting helmet. Runs smallish for the stated metric sizes. Adjustments make 5 stars. BOA dial adjuster with thin fabric strings disappear. Even the dial height adjustment moves up and down so I was able to fit the helmet just right forward and back so as to not hit the top of my glasses frames. Adjustable visor is nice. Vents are small, but no worries because the silicone sweat guard is LEGIT. I have a shaved head so sweat runs right down my head onto my glasses and into my eyes. The silicone band has 3 or 4 blades like a windshield wiper and channels the sweat over to my temples (away from my eyes and glasses). Every other sweat management system fails once the "special/redesigned/whatever" padding is soaked through, all the sweat goes into my face. Oakley got ... MoreNice fitting helmet. Solid helmet, with numerous options

Recently purchased this helmet on sale, which was a major factor. I have no complaints so far. Some gripe about only 12 vents. To me I instantly felt the breeze on my forehead and during the ride didn't even notice the temp of my head. I have a 56cm head with a buzzcut and purchased the medium. The helmet fits comfortably despite minimal padding. If you don't like the silicon sweat squeegee, Oakley includes a traditional pad to switch it out. I did use the glasses clips the first time out, but they seem gimmicky. Again, Oakley provides rubber plugs to replace the clips if you want to remove them. I found the weight to be noticeable in my hands but not on my head. That said, no other helmet feels as solid as this one! The visor especially, exudes quality. However after seeing all of the technical upgrades this new bucket has, along with being entranced by the design videos, I decided to take a jump and pick up my first Oakley branded item.Long story short (too late) I was instantly in love with this helmet. This helmet actually made me realize that my last helmet was fitted slightly improperly, sitting too high on my head - while the DRT5 floats around my skull, and keeps the sweat band just a hair over my eyebrows, catching everything.Couple all of this comfort with the cool clips that hold your glasses when it gets shady, the visor that gets WAY out of the way of goggles and MIPS tech on top of it all, and suddenly I think I might be an Oakely guy for life. At least as far as the helmets go...The bottom line is that if you arent in love with this helmet once you put it on, the only rational explanation is that you hate your own head and like to be uncomfortable.

This is now my favourite helmet. 5 rides in. If you sweat, a lot, and it goes in your eye, making you stop during a ride or a race then you should try this helmet. I went from standard helmet toweling, to the sweat buster pad which I still like, then had a friend try this Oakley DRT5 and recommend I get one. The sweat channels in the front gather your sweat from your hair and forehead and wick it away to somewhere around your ear so it doesn't come down your face. It feels weird when it starts working as you do feel the sweat moving in the channels. So far it has worked great. I will update y review if the silicone channels wear or if performance deviates from what I have experienced. Worst Helmet I've Ever Owned

I am a gear/helmet junkie. At any given time I run 3-4 helmets suited to a lot of different riding, so I was excited to hear Oakley was joining the helmet fray. The sunglass clips atop the helmet seemed a little schtick-y to me but whatever, I like new gadgets. At first I tried the new silicon sweat guard as I like anything that keeps sweat out of my eyes. 20 minutes into the ride, severe tension headache and sweaty eyes. I ran the BOA system loose and tight, no change. I switched to the traditional sweat guard, which seemed to funnel sweat directly onto my sunglasses and down my nose. Not optimal. Even with the traditional sweat guard I continued to develop headaches from the fit of the helmet, which I have NEVER encountered with a high-end helmet before. I ended up buying a Bell Super DH to supplement as I won't be using this helmet again. On that note... anyone want to buy a used Oakley DRT5 helmet!?
