I don't normally write reviews so this is definitely the exception. I was looking for waterproof boots (really meaning waterproof) and a tread design that would keep me stable on some of the terrain I am often on during hunting seasons. This boot has more than lived up to my expectations. This summer and early September has been unusually wet by Colorado standards above 9200 feet. These are the first boots I have EVER owned which have truly kept my feet dry. I am not walking through creeks, rivers, etc. Just through meadows and mountain trails covered in very wet plant growth and now morning frost. These boots have kept my socks and feet completely dry.The tread design is why I bought them never thinking or expecting them to actually be completely waterproof. I ... I wanted better traction in the soil for when I am going through mountains of deadfall where a slip could mean I get impaled on a downed tree. These have been fantastic so far. I had to wear them about eight times to get them completely broken in. They were fine the first hike but felt better and better as they molded to my feet. I am 65 and don't know if I'll wear these out or not. But, I will definitely buy another pair when needed. Hope you enjoy the same experience!

For me, OBOZ are the new generation in everyday wear hiking boots! OBOZ began after the original Merrell boot masters all left to begin their own boot design ~ OBOZ were born!!!Keen’s are nice for walking and nothing more for me, as soon as I work hard in them or do anything strenuous my feet suffer moving all around. Asolo is great just the price and the mid-sole (grayish cushy layer) just reduces to nothing in a few months, that is their Achilles heel for me as I am all of 280-300 pounds. Lowa is a great German brand only, the entire brushed leather boot will shrink in 7-8 months causing me terrible pain and needing another option. Merrell.. they have simply changed into something I cannot wear?? I have tried the Moab’s and they never fit whatsoever like the old ... OBOZ are the reincarnation of Merrell’s mid-hiker but I gotta say better in that, they came up with something special, locking in my heel space but comfortably, wide version allows for toe box area movement but not the whole foot, allows my feet to behave like active feet, nice construction with excellent stability & balance, especially the new foot insert that is included! I came off from a bad foot sprain between the middle of the outside of my foot, not the arch just the bone to bone. This was a few months of healing. The Superfeet Blue and the Superfeet Trailblazer inserts sold at REI both did help, then I began having some acute issues because my old OBOZ boots were worn out and my OTHER FOOT began having pain issues?! So, I bought a new pair of OBOZ and I have not looked back!!! Especially the included OBOZ insert that simply reset my foot positioning inside the boots and I’ve been walking like a happy man ever since! 😅🥳❤️

I love pretty much everything about these boots. Other hiking boots I've tried in this price range include Salomon X-Ultra 4 Mid GTX, X-Ultra 3 Mid GTX, various Merrell hiking boots and shoes, and The North Face waterproof hiking boots. The Oboz Bridger Mid B-Dry blow them ALL out of the water in terms of quality of materials, worksmanship, and especially durability. These boots have served me well for about a year now and could easily last another couple of years. I am a landscaper by trade and wear these to work five days a week, and often for walks/hikes on the weekend. They've held up extremely well to my heavy usage. I'm telling you, both pairs of Salomon boots I owned fell apart faster than I'd expect a pair of Wal Mart boots to do the same. These Oboz boots ... More comprehensive review below...The Oboz Bridger Mid B-Dry are made from quality materials, including leather with high-durability rubber in key places. They are plenty comfortable while also being HIGHLY supportive. Immediately upon trying them I could tell they were a lot sturdier and more supportive than all of the others I'd tried up to that point. The insole felt high-quality by comparison. These boots are TRULY waterproof (within reason) while still being breathable enough for hot summer days in the high desert. The rubber wrapped around the toe area and heel area of the boots seems to have done a ton to make these boots last longer. The sole of the boot might look strange at first glance, but I've found it a great and versatile sole shape. I've worn these on all terrains in all weather while doing landscaping work. I've worn these on hot days, in torrential downpours, and also all throughout cold winters with heavy snowfall and ice. Somehow they manage to be breathable enough in summer and warm enough in winter with proper socks, and are still effectively waterproof. In summary, if you are looking for possibly the best combination of quality, comfort, support, and durability in a hiking boot under $200: these are very likely the best value waterproof hiking boot out there. Working as a landscaper is one of the best stress tests for a boot, and this one excelled. IMPORTANT NOTE: these absolutely run one-half size small. I'm normally a size 11, I ordered these in a size 11.5 and it is perfect.

Let me preface this review by stating I did not end up buying these boots. However I really like them and they are my top three. I have a very wide foot and need a wide toebox. These boots deliver on both of those requirements (in size wide)! what I liked about these boots are they give you tremendous ankle support, are very comfortable, I love the license system, I really like the soul structure and lastly I think they are visually appealing. So why didn’t I keep them? I wanted to try a lighter boot this time. One that would be comfortable for hiking and all day where if required. These boots are not heavy compared to old style hiking boots but they are heavier than what I purchasedI was a little surprised that after an extended inside/indoor Tryon. I ended up ... I ended up going up a half a size, which was a full size bigger than my normal running or casual shoe. This larger size gave me more room in the toebox and kept my toes off the end of the boot.
It is a 5 star boot but the 4 stars are for the sizing of the product. The good - it's a stiff sole, chunky tread and very comfortable boot with a short break in period. I have worn these boots for backpacking in North Central PA and found them to be the best boot for the price. The ankle support is decent. The boot is waterproof (for right now - most of my boots become less after awhile). Overall, these are the best mid priced boots on the market. Now for the bad.. I originally ordered these from the company in my size (12 Wide). Oboz are notorious for being too narrow, even on wide shoes. Well, the boots did not fit at all. My toes were jammed to the end of the toe box. After being told I could not return them since there was some usage, I sold them online and ... It was only after coming into REI and getting fitted that they found me a size 13 wide that fits absolutely perfect! The size 13 is actually the same length as my other brand size 12's. Lesson learned, go to REI and get fitted! Also the employees in the footwear department were outstanding! So, horrible fit unless you get fitted with the right size. Once you find them, this is an outstanding boot for hiking, backpacking and other back country adventures!
I'm an arborist. I use these boots for work daily, and am very hard on them, using them in all weather conditions, over rough terrain, and with a lot of abrasion from dragging brush, getting covered in chain saw shavings, bar oil, dirt etc.Pros:- They are extraordinarily comfortable to walk in, and are decent if you need to do a bit of running, I haven't gotten close to getting a blister with these.- The waterproofing is high quality and hasn't failed even though there is a significant hole in the leather from me not caring for the leather properly. The only time I get wet feet is when water seeps in from the top due to the base layer on my legs getting saturated.- They provide a moderate amount of ankle support for walking on rough/off-trail terrain, without ... The only time I get wet feet is when water seeps in from the top due to the base layer on my legs getting saturated.- They provide a moderate amount of ankle support for walking on rough/off-trail terrain, without significantly interfering with the comfort while walking.Neutral:- They are not the most breathable option possible, and get a little hot during the summer, nor are they the most insulated, and get a little cold during the winter. 50 degrees or so is probably the perfect temperature for them.Cons:- My only complaint is that they aren't very durable, though I feel this is mostly a deliberate design compromise rather than a shortcoming. The rubber at the toe of the boot started peeling back from the leather almost immediately (though this didn't progress further), the soles are made of soft rubber that wears rather quickly, particularly if you walk on more abrasive surfaces, like concrete or asphalt (though it does grip better than a harder rubber), and the leather has to be cared for or it will fall apart if treated roughly. Conclusion:Like anything else, these boots are not absolutely perfect; they're a product of design compromises. However, despite their relatively short lifespan for what I do with them, I'm happy to spend another $200 for a new pair, because of all the boots I've tried, for my feet, nothing else comes close.
I’ve owned these for two years now and they are very comfortable shoes. Great traction and very supportive. The mid plate section takes this shoe from the lightweight, mild hiking boot into the heavy duty hiking boot category. That I love. It’s also performed well in the waterproof category. The Achilles heel for me has been the soles on these shoes. The rubber is slightly softer than other competitors and tends to wear out faster than normal, but this does lend itself to good traction. The even bigger issue for me is the way the sole is designed. While it’s all one piece technically, there are essentially little branches of tread with rubber lugs extending to a point along the edges of the shoe. The even bigger issue for me is the way the sole is designed. While it’s all one piece technically, there are essentially little branches of tread with rubber lugs extending to a point along the edges of the shoe. And along the edge, some of the soft midsole extends down almost into the bottom sole region in between where the rubber branches don’t cover. Those isolated sections of branched rubber sole are already starting to tear away from the midsole. I’ve already glued one lugged section with shoe goo and will have to re-glue it soon. And while I’ve owned them two years, I don’t use them very often. The occasional backpacking trip, hunting trip, etc. Granted, some of those outings involved intense rocky, steep terrain, and off trail mountaineering, but not enough to cause a boot of this price range to have its sole begin falling off. That’s why I blame the design. No matter how tough it looks, if you have highly branched soles with space in between the sections of rubber, those isolated sections of sole are going to experience stresses that they wouldn’t have if the sole covered the entire bottom of the shoe. Whether that design was to cut weight, provide unique traction benefits, I don’t know. But it leaves an otherwise rugged and tough boot more susceptible to coming apart. That was the fear I had when I initially bought them and unfortunately it came to fruition. I love these boots and they would otherwise have several more years of use, but this one issue forces me to give them three stars. If you never plan to hike off trail, perhaps they’ll serve you differently
So far, I've put about 30 miles on the Oboz Bridgers, and I also have a pair of Keen Durands with 200ish miles on them (along with a graveyard of worn out boots from other manufacturers). This review will contrast the two to highlight what I feel are shortcomings with the Bridger.I bought the Oboz based on near-universal praise (I like to have two pairs of boots and had recently retired a pair of $95 Propets that performed admirably above their station). However, in almost every performance measure, I find the Oboz inferior to the Keen Durands.Fit: These Bridgers are the narrowest "wide width" boots I've worn, though they are broken in now and have loosened a bit. However, in almost every performance measure, I find the Oboz inferior to the Keen Durands.Fit: These Bridgers are the narrowest "wide width" boots I've worn, though they are broken in now and have loosened a bit. Some describe them favorably as "snug." I see them as too tight laterally for my feet to get any airflow. Keens, as everyone knows, are the roomiest boots out there for people like me who have duck feet. The Oboz are fine lengthwise, FWIW.Comfort: If you're one of those hikers who like "feedback," which I interpret as being able to feel the trail textures underfoot, you might enjoy these Oboz boots. To me, they don't offer enough protection. I feel every rock I step on, and once I hit mile five of a mountain hike, my feet start to feel banged up. The Durands, after 200 miles, are still quite comfy and provide a good barrier against trail hazards on long hikes.Traction: I'm disappointed with the traction I get from the Oboz. My debut hike began with a fairly gentle uphill slope on hard-packed dirt that was damp (not muddy) from an overnight rain. The boots slipped out a couple times as the pitch increased. The treads pack mud as well. If rocky terrain is slightly damp, I lose confidence with their grip. By contrast, even with 200 miles of wear, the Keens haven't lost any gripping power. There's one area in which the Oboz perform better, and that's toe protection going downhill. The flat(ish) toe box and extra roominess of the Keens can be a drawback on a sleep downhill slope, as the foot tends to slide forward a bit.All that said, the Oboz do seem to be a well-made boot. I just don't think they're ideal for the rocky or rainy environments I hike in. I'd like to try them on a cool-weather desert hike or one of those gravelly coastal trails in Italy.
I purchased a pair of these boots last year after wearing my previous Oboz Bridger Premium boots for well over 750 miles. The Bridger is a very comfortable boot and didn't require and break-in for me. I do use custom insoles with it to minimize plantar fasciitis, but the stock insoles are pretty good too.Unfortunately, this boot is nowhere near as durable as the Bridger Premium was. After around 400 miles the rubber was separating from the boot in several places and the waterproofing started to be less effective. The other issue is that the soles are not very grippy and were pretty well broken down after 400 miles. They slip easily on wet rocks and snow leading to a lack of confidence.I'd say these are still pretty good boots for the price, but I would not ... I bought this pair of oboz at the beginning of the season and was working as a park ranger at the time. They were pretty great the first summer, broke in quickly and the waterproofing worked great. Unfortunately, after about a year the shoes began to fall apart. They developed a hole in the top and where the fabric meets the sole began to fray, which completely ruined the waterproof aspect. Of course this occurred slightly after a year, which means they were no longer covered by warranty. I attempted to reach out to oboz and was told to contact the retailer (REI) as if they have anything to do with the manufacturing. The shoes were 3 stars. How can you charge $200 for a shoe and then say that they should only last a year? And then when I inquire about the warranty you attempt to pass me off to another company.Disappointed in the boots and service because I did really enjoy the boots the first year, but they aren't worth the price to buy annually.
