I have purchased multiple ACR EPIRBS in the past and fortunately have never had to activate one! Because of the five year battery life on the ACR battery, I need to either replace the battery or replace the unit. Because they charge so much for the battery, I find the best return on investment is to purchase a newer, more modern unit. This time I am changing from ACR to Ocean Signal. The three factors I used for my decision was price (roughly $40 less), 12 watts of transmit power (ACR is about half the watts), and Ocean Signal's 10 year battery life (ACR batteries are replaced every five years). This seems like a no brainer to me.

I am retired USCG, Aviation, been on many searches for overdues. Here is a hint, the ones with an EPIRB ALWAYS came home to live another day. 90% of our searches we came back empty handed after 3 days of searches. BTW all you get is 3 days. I we could not find you in that time you are fishfood. What's your life and your family's lives worth?

The rescueMe epirb is a great safety device. Hopefully i will never need to use it but at least i have it. Simple to register and mount on the boat.
Luckily I haven't had to actually use it out in the ocean. I can only say that to set up online and register was really easy. mounted into my boat, screws supplied were Stainless steel so that's a bonus, so far so good
Very compact in size. Gives more options for install on the boat. The only thing I could pick is the fact there is no line attached, although there is a provision to put one on yourself.
I’m hoping this is the best product I have ever bought.I’m also hoping I never have to use it!!Will give an update review if & when I have to use it- if it does it’s job.It is small and fit nicely in my jet ski EPIRB compartment and complies with the soon to be new rules as it is GPS based.
I would like to clear something up. I have reported a couple of reviews not because they were offensive, but they could have been misleading and as this a safety item I have to say, YES IT DOES have a lanyard!! the entire rubber section comes off. grab the tab and pull the rubber off, it is already attached to a chord. You can slip it around your wrist or tie it to a raft or floatation device. It is in the instructions, but I have to admit it isn't really clear.
The OCEAN Signal RescueME EPIRB with GPS is tiny!. Ben small and compact its easily mounted into anpossition that accessible but out of the way. Its easy to release if from its bracket and the overall design has been well thought out EXCEPT it doesn't come with a tethering line to be able to secure it to yourself or a raft in the even of a vessel sinking.Clearly i have not and hope to never test this item. It does have a mounting point for some string.Would I buy it again, ABSBSOLUTELY!! I like its desight and compact size.
When I asked for a gps epirb i was expecting a gme unit and didnt know anything about ocean signal. But fears were not warranted as its a very reputable product worldwide, not just australia. Its definately fit for purpose and included everything to easily register the product online. If the need arose, i wouldnt hesitate to buy the same product again
