I got this MC-20 2x Teleconverter with my M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens. While the 150mm on the lens is good, this teleconverters lets me double the focal length with only a little loss of lens aperture. The optics are clean and precise. The teleconverter attaches easily. As an added bonus, this MC-20 Teleconverter works on the M.Zuiko 90mm f/3.5 Macro Lens as well. Now I can take that lens out to 180mm and also increase magnification to 4x! I'm not sure I'm ready to try that yet, but I know it'll work. For now the TC spends almost all of it's time on the 40-150mm.

I use this with the Olympus 300mm prime lens and - - well, basically, it works. You get 600mm magnification and the images are still clear and beautiful. You lose a F stop so shooting at twilight might be an issue - - haven't specifically tested that.What astonished me is that I still do not need a tripod. Basically point, shoot, and get a super clear image. This is with the Olympus E-PL7 camera, which plays a major role in the image stabilization.Note that your camera may need to have its firmware brought up to date to accommodate the MC-20. It's free and takes 10 minutes, but you have to do it.

It does the same for the Olympus 300mm lens, making it a 600mm lens. Or the 100-400mm lens into a 200-800mm lens! But the compromise occurs because these lenses were not designed for those focal lengths and adding more lens elements to the path of the light while at the same time moving the lens farther away from the image sensor reduces the aperture (which reduces the amount of light entering the camera) and reduces the portion of the original optical image circle that exposes the image sensor (thereby reducing the optical resolution). I've used some 2x teleconverters (like a Tamron model that came with a 500mm catadioptric lens, converting it into a 1000mm lens) that are horrible. The Tamron teleconverter softens the image so much and flattens the contrast so you're almost better off just using the lens without the teleconverter and enlarging the image digitally in Adobe Photoshop or Topaz Lab's Gigapixel AI. But Olympus stands apart. The quality of its teleconverters (both this 2x MC-20 and their 1.4x MC-14) are top quality and work better than any other teleconverters that I'veever used. So, I'm very happy with the results I get with my Olympus MC-20 teleconverter and I highly recommend it. If you understand the tradeoffs that they impose and those tradeoffs are tolerable in order to increase the reach of your lenses, then they can serve a valuable niche in your arsenal of photographic gear. Just remember: You cannot cheat physics. Because a teleconverter (all teleconverters) reduce the light, enlarge the image circle and introduce more lens elements, you will need your scene to be better lit, your autofocus will be a little slower, the range of your in-camera image stabilization will be reduced a little and your images will be a tiny bit less sharp. But, because Olympus has made its teleconveters (like the MC-20) to its Pro-series standard, they are among the best teleconverters on the market and they are fully weather-sealed.

It's not sharp enough, it really slowed focusing, etc. The Olympus MC-20 is REALLY good on the 40-150 f/2.8 pro lens. Provides a useful range of focal lengths and focuses very fast (nearly as fast as with the 1.4 or no converter). Image quality is superb. On the 300mm f/4 you'll notice a slow down in AF acquisition. Not surprising since you're now at f/8. Image quality is still very good in good light. In low light the focusing will struggle more and consequently image quality is more hit and miss based on the focus acquisition. Still works far better than my other system. I am using the mc-20 with the 40-150/2.8 zoom and a Panasonic GX8. Wide open, the combination is soft (and less contrasty) at distance, and my subjective impression is it is softer at the wide end of the zoom range. Stopped down 1 or 2 stops, the performance is very impressive. Beyond that things begin to soften, probably due to diffraction. While the GX8 has in body stabilization, at the long end (600mm equivalent), a tripod is needed under most lighting conditions unless one is willing to use high ISO. Unfortunately, unless one is desperate image quality isn't especially good wide open (even with a solid tripod mount) - unfortunate because that is exactly the primary use case for a long telephoto.
