Compare these: a full frame with 24-105 f4 and e-m5 with 12-100 f4. The latter is half the size/weight, $1000 less and gives you almost twice the focal range. They both take equally good pictures. It's true, full frame will perform better in a low light where you have to crank up the ISO. But E-M5's images are still quite usable at 6400 as long as you err on the side of overexposure.E-M5 hybrid autofocus is definitely better than contrast only system in low light. I tested with Lumix S5 side by side, and there is no question about it.This camera will be my daily driver to replace gx85 that I killed by submerging it in water, and I'll take out S5 for rid trips, portraits and video.

I am a long time Nikon user, with my last being the D500. I had to sell that camera and all the gear I had with it a few years back when times got a bit tough. This camera offers a much more sophisticated focusing system, better flash system, and a more useful and better LCD screen in a size that is not much larger than my old E-PL2. The more powerful battery is also a plus. Of course, I can use the same lenses with both cameras, which gives me two cameras of small size to choose from for different situations. The printed basic manual that comes with the E-M5 identifies the various parts of the camera but nothing else. I had to go online to find more helpful information about the various functions, and I will purchase a book especially for the E-M5 Mark III when it becomes ... So I think I'm qualified to render an opinion on this Olympus camera and lens.For professionals and hobbyists - I think you could very readily use this camera for event, wedding, and sports photography if you wanted to. The camera is very well built, solid, weather sealed, easy and intuitive to operate. The image quality is pretty stunning and equals all of the APS-C cameras that I have used from Nikon and Sony. You could easily do an entire event with one zoom, one prime, and a couple spare batteries. The small size of the camera/lens really lessens the intimidation factor which is tremendously helpful in getting candid shots. You can run the camera on electronic shutter in total silent mode, another huge advantage for event photography. If you have tight production schedules and fast deadlines, the small files sizes, wireless image transfer, and excellent JPGs out of camera will be very helpful. If you need to move quickly around people or locations, the small form factor and light weight of the camera and lenses is a big advantage. For overland nature photography involving long hikes or camping, there too, the small and light equipment with high image quality makes the adventure so much more enjoyable.I wouldn't choose this camera for professional landscape, fine art, studio, or portrait photography, especially if contemplating large prints or cropping frames. In those settings, there's no substitute for a full frame camera and big, heavy, professional grade lenses.I'll upload a few images I have taken in the past few days, not claiming to be any award winners, but just examples of what the camera can do. Like the big brother, for action, you can goto M mode, auto iso, ex comp and link spot metering with a single focus point (E3 Exp/ISO/Bulb spot metering p170). Also for action, you can goto A mode and set the minimum shutter speed while the camera uses shutter speed, auto iso and ex comp for proper exposure and no blurring due to action. MENU> E> ISO-AUTO SET p169.For stills, a quick in camera HDR can be assigned to a button for one touch access. For stills, you can also set the AEL/AFl to momentarily one shot focus while in manual focus. From there you can assign magnify to another button and get a tight manual focus.For video, it can be set to supply power to the mic. The knob and button settings are independent from the camera modes. The back lever has a way of turning 2 knobs into 4 knobs. I jumped from Mark II to Mark IV only because the sensor is 20MP vs 16MP for Mark II and all previous models. I have a wide selection on M4/3 lenses and let my 12 years old daughter to have the test run of the camera. She is a novice in digital photography, but she was able to take amassing shots. I'm very happy with the new features, new specs. Excellent compact camera for home use. I'm not comparing it to the professional cameras which costs $3-5K. Another comment - due to COVID Vietnamese factories are down. I live in Singapore, Singapore warehouses are sold out on this model. I had to order from the US. Even with the cost of shipping and customs duties my price was $50-80 less than if stock was available from Singapore vendors.
