The Dust Deputy by Oneida Air Systems is an efficient cyclonic pre-separator for vacuums. It traps dust in the barrel and keeps it out of your vacuum, extending its life and your filters. The Dust Deputy is molded from translucent, static dissipating plastic and uses centrifugal force to separate dust from the air stream. Its tapered inlet and outlet accommodate different hose sizes without the need for hunting for connections. The Dust Deputy filters 99% of sanding dust, allowing only 1% into the vacuum.

2" Dust Deputy worked out well with 1-1/4 vacuum.

I know my "Bucket Head" vacuum is a bit underpowered for the 2" Dust Deputy, but it works for me. I could not readily find fitting reducers but made two from Schedule 80 PVC couplings and 1-1/4" plumbing slip-extensions (same O.D. as 1-1/4 vacuum.) My kit came with damaged contents and Oneida was INCREDIBLE about replacement parts. My vacuum and D.D. are mounted on $15, 5-wheeled bucket bases from Walmart. There is a minor static-cling problem but I'll figure that out later. IMPORTANT: The clear D.D. lid fits a 12" bucket brim; it won't lock onto an 11-7/8" bucket brim.

Definitely worth it

This unit works as advertised, it separates out the vast majority of heavy particulates. The plastic is of a sufficient thickness to be sturdy and it's made in the USA. Inlet and outlet ports fit most small vacuum hoses. Unit comes with nuts, bolts & a foam gasket. My only recommendation is to include a steel ring that mounts on the underside of the lid that the cyclone bolts to inorder to distribute the compression load of the bolts. The flange of the cyclone with only a foam gasket and bolts does not seal well against a thin mounting surface.

Great upgrade!

Have owned the Dust Deputy for two weeks now. Have only measure a minor loss in velocity but an increase in volume. The larger amount of waste that it is able to now handle is welcome upgrade. Recommend this cyclone if you have the higher wattage shop vacs that are able to pull the higher CFMs. Also recommend the upgrade of the old lid to the new one. It is not only stiffer, but the design doesn't seem to collect as much dust around the exit port on the cyclone. One other improvement to the 2.5 is the ability to remove the top. It allows you to easily remove jammed blocks that you are now able to suck up with the larger port but to also line the cyclone with a strip of PSA backed aluminum duct tape that goes to ground. I installed the dust deputy on a drywall bucket lid using 15 wood screws and latex caulking as a seal. Quick and simple. My current project is repairing cracks and deteriorated control joints in a food grade warehouse. This facility is 1,600,000 sf, 100' high and operates 24/7/365. And with [COVID-19], they have increased shipping and recieving by 25%. I have to control all silica dust and stay out of the way of the forklifts. Using my shopvac with a bag filter and hepa cannister filter, I can grind until the bucket is 3/4 full. Thats a lot of very fine dust coming from the diamond tuck pointing wheels and the flat diamond wheels I use to flatten the repair material to the floor level. The dust collectors on the grinders NEVER loose suction. This allows me to ... MoreI installed the dust deputy on a drywall bucket lid using 15 wood screws and latex caulking as a seal. The dust collectors on the grinders NEVER loose suction. This allows me to increase time grinding since I only have to empty the bucket at the end of the day and replace the bag every other day. The dust deputy also catches all the concrete chunks that get sucked up. This prevents the bags from tearing. This critter catches close to 100% of the dust. Great value for the money.

I saw a demo/ shoot-out between the original Dust Deputy ( that I own) and the new DD 2.5. The demo almost seemed fake. A few changes and huge improvements? Then I looked at the price. Very reasonable, and if the claims were true, it was worth the risk. I ordered the 2.5 and was surprised how fast I received it. I first did a 'test' on my current set up and thought 'this will be tough to beat'. I switched the original DD to the DD2.5 and redid the test. I was amazed at the difference. It was clear that the suction had improved. I had an ankle-deep pile of wood chips and the 2.5 didn't let anything pass into the vacuum. The vacuum didn't bog down. There wasn't a change of pitch indicating any strain. I haven't checked how much if any of the debris passed into the ... MoreI saw a demo/ shoot-out between the original Dust Deputy ( that I own) and the new DD 2.5. The demo almost seemed fake. I haven't checked how much if any of the debris passed into the vacuum, but since the original DD only let a minor fraction of a percentage through, I'll bet the 2.5 let even less to pass into the vacuum. My advice if you are sitting on the fence regarding upgrading your original DD, do it. It takes 10 minutes to change it over, and you will be surprised at the difference. If you are looking into a cyclone first stage system for small shops or shop vacuums, buy the 2.5. You will not be disappointed.

My experience so far

I'm reluctant to rate the product before I use it, but these links are normally only good for a few days, so I'll rate my experience so far. It was delivered 2 days ago. The cyclone looks as advertised, and came within a reasonable time considering the chaos going on in New York right now. The gasket holes don't line up very well with the cyclone's mounting holes. It's only a thin foam gasket, and it'll probably rip easily when stretched. My biggest problem thus so far is finding fittings to slip on the two ports. Their both tapered, and don't match any of the common sizes of PVC fittings I could find at Home Depot. I'm sure this was by design because they want you to buy their elbow fittings, but even so, I paid $50 for $5 worth of manufacturing so I think I'm ... MoreI'm reluctant to rate the product before I use it, but these links are normally only good for a few days, so I'll rate my experience so far. Long story short, I spent an additional $45 at HD for a variety of miscellaneous fittings so I could find a workable combo to set this thing up. I'm not entirely satisfied.

I've had a dust deputy for a long time and it separates dust beautifully - leaving little dust to clean from my shop vac filter & container. And saving a lot of time & $ on filters & upkeep.I recently needed to buy a new one as my old one cracked last winter where the inlet top meets the separator (gets very cold in northern VT and it fell over and cracked on a cold January night). Despite my efforts, there was no effective repair option to maintain a seal. There are significant upgrades on the new separator:- Improved container lid is wonderful- Seems to be sturdier plastic- Price remains reasonableSuggestions going forward:1. Just received diy dust deputy. My plan was to integrate it with my large shop vacuum in order to ease filter useable. Ended up modifying top of vacuum (removing handle etc) and mounting 5 gal bucket along with deputy on top. It's easily removable as well. First thought of using white plastic pipe to join but ended up using short vacuum hose. Works very well. So far picked up nearly a half bucket of sawdust dirt etc. with a couple tablespoons ending up in vacuum. Very happy with my purchase. Will recommend easily. Only frustration with basic version I got a couple of odd fittings and had no clue what to do with them as no instructions included. Ended up my hoses (with minor tweaks) fit the fittings on deputy fine. Did not need supplied fittings. Perhaps would have ... MoreJust received diy dust deputy. So I bought this on a chance that it would work on something other than wood saw dust, and it did not disappoint!! I do a lot of router work on foam insulation board, (the pink or blue from the big box stores), for Halloween and Christmas yard decorations. Using just the strait shop vac would clog my filter in short time. The Dust Deputy has eliminated my filter clogging! This device collects dust so fine that it statically sticks to the insides of bucket lol. I don’t quite know the physics behind the Dust Deputy, but it works like magic!! My only complaint is the lid that came with my DD doesn’t fit the latest orange bucket from that orange big box store. Can’t confirm if it works with the blue bucket, but I had a white 5gal bucket I use for fishing and the lid ... MoreSo I bought this on a chance that it would work on something other than wood saw dust, and it did not disappoint!! In a word - quality - quality all the way around. Can't say enough about the Deputy 2.5. I had previously built a DIY 5 gallon bucket dust collector system. It was fun to build and it worked fine for a few months. Then a few small cracks developed at the lid where the hose connections are located. I repaired it but the cracks grew beyond repair. I could have repaired the system, but instead of starting over with repair and mods, I cut my losses and pulled the trigger on the 2.5 and I am very happy with it.
