Already had the ooni multifuel pizza oven, having chosen that option in case we decided gas would sometimes be preferable.During cold weather it is hard to maintain higher temperatures with charcoal so we decided to try gas.It is great. The oven warms quickly and doesn't lose much heat between pizzas. It does lack the wood fired flavour but for colder weather, or to heat the oven quickly it is great. Will probably opt for gas over charcoal if cooking for lots of teens too.

I was having some struggles keeping a consistent temperature, results were pizzas being undercooked or burnt (beyond just "charred"). Was about to have a party and make 20 pizzas so I knew I needed something that would burn hotter, stay there, and make consistently cooked pizzas. All 20 pizzas turned out great! One person stated, "This is the best pizza I've ever had." If you're dealing with the headaches of charcoal/wood, this is the way to go. The wood/charcoal "flavor" you think you'll miss is really unnoticeable. The pizza is only in there for a couple of minutes. Just buy it already!

I thought Iâd be a wood purist when I purchased my Karu 12â, but I typically make 4-5 pies a session and maintaining the fire is somewhat of a hassle on top of everything else going on. I decided to give the dad burner a try and could not be happier. The installation could not be simple. It comes pre-calibrated, so there are no adjustments to make. You just attach your propane tank and fire it up for the perfect flame every time and as long as you need it (and have propane!). Iâve heated the oven up to ~850F in as little as 15 mins and been able to maintain baking temperatures of 350F to make bread. Itâs extremely versatile and easy to control by simply dialing in your flame level. This really has been an upgrade to my pizza oven experience. Initially I used good quality oak logs (specifically for Ooni ovens) and whilst they impart a really nice flavour the firebox on the Karu 12g is just too small and requires almost constant attention to keep the stone above 400 deg C. If you have someone to help that's do-able but if you're doing it solo for a group of friends it's just hard work. The gas burner is super easy to fit and use, just clip it on, light it and once you're up to temp there's nothing to worry about. I've found the oven heats up and recovers between bakes appreciably faster with gas and runs hotter than I could achieve with wood on a cold winters day.I still use wood if I'm doing 2-3 pizza but in winter or for anymore than 3 it'll be gas.
There seems to be some ambiguity about how to use this with the new Karu 12G models. In the Q&A, the answer was to keep the door closed, but this didn't work when I tried, I found if I closed the door, with the chimney attached but set to the closed position, the flame will go out. I think because it needs oxygen to burn. Here are my observation trying the gas burner at its highest setting (just for breaking in the oven, we haven't started cooking with it yet).- With door open, and chimney in closed position: oven doesn't get very hot, only to the orange zone of the built-in thermometer, but not reaching the reds. Pizza stone surface temp was about 430ÂșC nearest to the flame, and 350ÂșC nearest the door.- With door closed, and chimney in closed position: flame goes ... MoreThere seems to be some ambiguity about how to use this with the new Karu 12G models. Pizza stone surface temp was about 480ÂșC nearest to the flame, and 430ÂșC nearest the door. It might be able to get hotter if I tried for longer.I think when I cook, I will try it with door closed and chimney open.Other than that, this is very easy to use, easy to attach and detach and switch between this and wood (in different sessions). Nice to have gas as an option and for when cooking with the griddle pans where you want lower, more consistent temperatures. The kit comes with everything you need if using regular 10-13kg size bottle propane gas (e.g. Calor, Flogas, Gaslight, in the UK). You just need to get the bottle gas. It is very easy to attach to the 10kg Gaslight in my case.Minus one star from the score because instructions are not clear regarding door on or off etc. Would be nice if they explained the rationale for keeping door open. Also Q&A answer is wrong, and potentially dangerous as the flame could go out if keeping both door and chimney closed.
I have been struggling for some time the wood burning Ooni (low temperature) and finally decided to buy the gas insert. It is definitely a game changer. The Pizza cooks much more evenly across the top. and require less constant turning. I have still not been able to get the stone up to 900 (or even close for that matter) but I have not experimented yet with things like making sure the stone is totally dry, and running the oven for 30 mins prior to cooking the first pie. Either way, the gas is way better. One issue is that the control is difficult to reach unless the back of the oven is easily accessible (which mine is not when it is in its normal location) and one is prone to burning one's arm in the reach.
Not a big reviewing person BUT this pizza has changed my pizza life. Unless itâs a craft pizza I am no longer dining out for Pizza. Itâs literally that good AND while I learn the art of dough making buying OONI premade dough balls has been amazingly simple at $5 bucks or so ( including all ingredients. 50% of the time my wife and I share a pie so itâs extremely economical. Now the bad ( Iâm sure itâs me ) I bought the multifuel and I can say itâs a handful to keep fuel in there and cook all the pies, etc. itâs great for 1 or 2 but if you host youâll be behind the eight ball đ±. I simply use the gas portion and I can make pizza for days. Iâve cooked 40 pies on 1 gas tank ( and counting ). Well done OONI - youâve ruined my love of fast food pizza forever.
This gas burner is worth every penny if you are planning on large gatherings. I cooked 20-25 pizzas back-to-back and the consistent, broad flame was easy to use. It melted the cheese on the whole pizza and then heated the stone back up quickly between pizzas. My family was rolling out the dough, and I had two friends topping them and bringing them to me outside. Super fun party and my friends were very impressed! It does come with an attachment hose for the gas canister, so you don't need to order that separately like I did. Expect to use about a pound of propane an hour.
This is fantastic, the Karu is amazing and pizza tastes so good with some lump wood and little hardwood logs but this takes time to get it all going and also needs to be outside so we have to rely on the weather being good!!!! The gas attachment still makes fantastic pizzas just not the smoked flavour. We have been able to have pizza on an evening after work lots of times, light the gas and go prep, and come back to perfect temperature. We even pop a cheeky garlic bread or 2 in when we are having pasta dishes as itâs so quick. When we are using the gas we have it set up in the garage so the great British weather cannot ruin it. Yes itâs pricey, I deliberated over it for a good while, then after too many wet weekends that were also too windy for setting the gazebo up ... MoreThis is fantastic, the Karu is amazing and pizza tastes so good with some lump wood and little hardwood logs but this takes time to get it all going and also needs to be outside so we have to rely on the weather being good!!!! Really easy to install. Just a couple of screws and that's it! I use both wood & gas for convenience (e.g. in winter time here in Finland, it's way easier with gas as you don't have to freeze your butt off working outdoors all the time :DPerformance is great! It heats my Karu to 400 (celcius) in about 10-15 minutes and keeps the heat easily even we now have -10 to -15 degrees below 0. After optimal temperature is reached, I usually lower the temp just a little bit.Flame's "signature" is perfect! You get this really nice "roof of flame" which spreads evenly on sides also. Comparing to wood, this is close to perfection, but of course you're gonna miss the woodsmoke taste a bit.Not 5/5 due a bit tricky piezo (the ignition mechanism) and also the gas adjustment ... MoreReally easy to install.
