Got to me alot sooner than I was expecting. Was really impressed with the quality of the knife and the sharpness. I was whittling with it straight away and then thought id give it a little bit of a sharpening and was wowed. The hand written note on the invoice was a nice touch. I was so happy with my purchase ive bought another knife of him. Keep up the good work.

I've had several of these knives in various sizes (#7 to #10, both carbon and stainless steel) since I started "tent camping" in the 1980s. These are a GREAT value and can be sharpened easily with thin blade and quality steel. Use about a 20 degree angle for a sharp, durable edge. They are solid and reasonably strong, but not a heavy duty blade for batoning wood or opening cans (most people never need to do this anyway with their knives). They are great for slicing food, cutting rope or fishing line, cutting tinder or feather sticks for making fires, even using with a ferro rod to start a fire. As others observed, they can get stiff to open when wet or exposed to prolonged high humidity. (Dry or even bake to loosen.) Also, the carbon blade needs to keep oiled to prevent rust, and tasteless mineral oil (at your local pharmacy) is great for that. Very lightweight to stick in large pocket or generic sheath for folding knives.

Prefer an higonokami for the price range. Here the bulky handle doesn’t sit well for a pocket knife. Locking mecanism flimsy. Pretty dull OOTB - easy fix but didn’t even went into it since it was an immediate turnoff anyhow. Sits on a shelf somewhere until I’ll sharpen it and give it to someone.

Perfect little multi purpose utility knife for my tramping kit. Strong enough to shave feather sticks but still dexterous enough for fine work. Weight is negligible.

This is one high quality knife for what the selling price is. The blade comes razor sharp and it's an excellent grade of carbon steel. The assembly is precision and I strongly suggest watching a few YouTube videos on the proper way to open the knife and to correctly lock the blade in position as well as folding it back up.When my budget allows I want to get the smaller size locking folders too.

This Opinel size 10 knife is the perfect all-round knife. Good quality blade that keeps a good edge. Great quality. I also own a number 6 for smaller jobs.

Brilliant pocket knife. Simple, solid mechanism, nice wood handle that's well shaped and well finished. Dropped a star because the edge was a bit rolled. Didn't take long to get perfect with emery paper, now it has a really sharp edge that lasts well. I think the edge is slightly convex rather than 100% flat and better for it. I've been making shims tricky bits of shuttering to repair a roof. Therese were only from pine wood but very seasoned and it slices through without much effort. Can't open one-handed, but very easy to close and lock one handed - handy working at height and holding on with other hand.

Opinel No.9 carbon knife

This is a well made classic folding knife, still made in France. The fit and finish are excellent. The knife has an ingenious locking ring that locks the blade in both the open position and when it's closed. This knife is at home in your kitchen or lunch bag or your camp kitchen setup. The handle is comfortable for any sized hands. The blade arrives very sharp " out of the box", but can very easily be sharpened to a fine razor's edge.Excellent for prepping food or everyday tasks.I have purchased more to and will be gifting for Christmas.Still made in Europe, these knives will always serve you well. Highly recommended 👍🏻

Opinel no.9

Opinel company in France has been making knives since 1890. The blade is carbon steel (XC90 steel). Handle is made of beech. It has a unique twist lock that keeps the blade closed or open. In 1985 it was selected as part of the "100 most beautiful products in the world" along with the Porsche 911 and the Rolex watch. The knife feels wonderful in your hand as well as your pocket. It weighs 1 7/8 oz. It can easily skin and bone animals as well. It's dangerous sharp. A few stropes on leather and it's a razor. The price point is amazing for what you get. It must be well oiled because of the carbon steel. I first saw one in my Grandfather's tackle box almost 40 years ago. I love it. All my kids are getting one for Christmas this year.

Anyone who knows these Opinels will be aware of how capably slicey and light they are and how outrageously sharp. A design classic that answers every question about slicing up bread and sausage and tomatoes or budding in the garden. Everything. Usually the recommendation is to buy the #8. But really, it is the #9 you want. Just perfect round the barbeque!
