Oricom Babysense7 Infant Breathing Movement Monitor
Introducing the Babysense7 Breathing Movement Monitor, the latest version of Australia’s first and only infant breathing movement monitor to be included as a medical device on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. Inside of a modern and streamlined design, the Babysense7 includes the very same technology as the previous model, that Australians have trusted for true peace of mind. Babysense7 is an integrated system, with a control unit connecting to sensor pads which are placed under your baby’s mattress. The device is designed to continually monitor the breathing movements of your sleeping baby, and if your baby’s breathing movement slows to a rate of less than 10 breaths per minute, or cannot be detected for more than 20 seconds, an audible alarm is activated. Babysense7 is unique to the Australian market, in that it is included as a medical device on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG No. 97479), and is battery operated, meaning no power source in and around the cot. The monitoring system continues to give families comfort, by advancing the path to intervention in the event of irregular breathing movement or distress, before it becomes critical. Babysense7 is an additional aid to the normal precautions taken by families in the care of their infant. FEATURES Redesigned compact styling with the same proven technology and performance as the original Babysense2. Babysense7 is included as a medical device on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG No. 97479) Continually monitors the breathing movement rate of your baby An audible alarm is activated if your baby’s breathing movement slows to a rate of less than 10 breaths per minute or cannot be detected for more than 20 seconds The control unit connects to sensor pads placed under your baby’s mattress Battery operated Babysense7 is designed for use on healthy infants up to 12 months of age.

I am in emergency services, and unfortunately in my decade of service I have seen more SIDS cases then most. So becoming a Mum for the first time came with a massive amount of anxiety and fear. After doing a tonne of research into breathing/movement monitors, I landed on the BabySense. What I really appreciated was that It is registered with TGA, so you know it has had to be thoroughly tested. It is extremely easy to set up and use. We have had it in the bassinet, and now the cot. The instructions are clear, and 15 weeks in and the batteries are still going strong after being on for 10+ hours overnight and for most naps during the day.It has only gone off once for us, and the alarm had me up and out of bed from a deep sleep nearly instantly, and had startled bubs ... Thankfully it seemed to be a false alarm, bub looked to have wriggled himself too far from the mat (first week in the cot). A quick readjustment and all is fine again. This has really been a great peace of mind for me. Bubs does have some medical issues, and is prone to get really sick from infections quite quickly. I don't think I would be able to get any quality of sleep if it weren't for this mat.Definitely recommend it for all parents.

Initially, we didn't know which product to purchase regarding baby's safety whilst sleeping. After many hours researching different products, we decided on the Orion babysense 7, and it turned out to be perfect for us.We followed the instructions and only have one base plate connected as baby is still in a bassinet and cannot roll over yet. We Initially had false alarms but we realised we had the plate way too close to the bottom of bassinet yet baby was more in the centre - that's how sensitive the plate is and I knew we had bought the right product. Once we repositioned the plate, it's been perfect.A few reviews had mentioned that the green flashing light is too bright, but it doesn't bother us at all, if anything it's become a calming light in the room that ... It's not a product that baby can pull off or switch off, and the constant green flash shows us it is working and everything is ok. I've already recommended it to pregnant friends.

We purchased this product at the end of last year for the arrival of our baby in January 2019. Initially we couldn’t set it up because the cord from the sensor pad to the controller was too short to reach to the top edge of our bassinet. (We have a side sleeper style bassinet which we use as a stand alone..) We eventually ended up unzipping a corner to hook up the device. I cannot complain one bit about the core function of this product, sensing baby’s movement. We haven’t had any false alarms and as we often forget to turn it off when we take baby out and set off the alarm we know that it works well. Now to the reason we forget to turn it off. The button to turn it on and off is the stupidest thing about this product. It is loud to turn on which is annoying if you are putting your bub down asleep or are turning it on after they have been asleep for a while, I know the noise definitely disturbs our little guy. On top of that it can also be a bit “dicky” and not turn on/off properly. And the thing I dislike the most is the lights on the button. It flashes red when you turn it on which is fine but then it continues to flash a blue light while it’s on. So if the bassinet is parked next to your bed you have a disco strobe light blaring at you all night. It only took me one night of that to decide to put a wash cloth over it to significantly dull the strobe affect. Once we move bub into his cot in his room we will still need to do that as well as there is floor to ceiling wardrobe mirrors in his room which will make it look like a rave party in there. I do not understand why the noise while turning it on has to be so loud or why it has a flashing blue light. If they wanted some indictor to show that it is on they could just use a constant dull (white) light around the button while on.... we are so frustrated with it that my husband is going to pull it apart and either cover the lights with something or take them out completely which will make it hard to tell if it’s on.

Not happy with our monitor.1. When it’s turned on, the light is very bright and lights up the entire room. Not ideal when babies are supposed to sleep in darkness. We had to put a cover over the front to block out the light.2. Ours keeps going off in the middle of the night for no reason. There’s nothing wrong with our baby. She now wakes up startled and we have to resettle her.3. Sometime when we take her out of the cot, we forget to turn it off and it can be almost a minute before the sirens start…not ideal if the baby wasn’t breathing for a minute.Currently in the process of sorting out why ours does this, if it’s a fault or if the product just doesn’t work.Update: turns out my device might be faulty so I am going to get a replacement. The customer service ... Almost 6 years ago we were recommended these sensor pads by a friend for our first born.Initially we had a couple of false alarms, moving too far away from pads etc. After around 8 months they started going off more frequently, we didn’t think anything of it. Would just turn them back on. I mentioned it to my doctor one day, and she said she doesn’t know enough about the pads, but it doesn’t sound right. Advised us to actually check our baby when they were going off that she was breathing. We did this, and realised she was either really shallow breathing or not at all, we started to rouse her to breathe and then she would be fine.We were quickly admitted to Monash Children’s for a sleep study, told it would be nothing and sensor pads are not accurate. After several tests, it came back that she had Central Sleep Apnea. She would stop breathing around 15 times a night. Each time the sensor pads would go off and she would need to be roused to breathe again. The specialists told us to keep using the pads as there was nothing else like it available on the market at the time - and it was working. You can’t treat Central Sleep Apnea, and thankfully after 3.5 years she grew out of it. We did continue to use the pads all of this time (even though it is not recommended by Oricom for that long). There was no other alternative at the time. Our second child had a wrap over their face one night and the pads also went off! While there are some false alarms, I would rather get up and turn it off and on again to check than not know.I cannot speak highly enough of these sensor pads. With our third child on the way, I have just purchased a brand new set.We take them away in the porta cot also. The Baby Bjorn cot is flat to the ground, so the pads can go underneath. There is not a night that we don’t use them. As to us, these saved our daughters life. Potentially it could have been a very different story.Thank you Oricom.
I have a co sleeper on the side of my bed and bought this for peace of mind. The other morning I took my son out to feed him, spent a good 45 minutes out of the bed and realised I didn't turn the alarm off. Infact it was still flashing green.I did the same thing thismorning, and tonight, and same thing happened. Beijg winter I don't sleep with a fan, infact it's quite dead/ still in the bedroom. As my son is now 3 months old I threw the box out I can't return it. For $249+ I feel like it was money wasted.
Our first son died in his sleep by suffocation. He had rolled onto his stomach during the night, face down. He was in his own room at 4 months and had up until that point been sleeping really well. He died silently. We found him in the morning and was had been dead for hours. So with our second son, it was imperative we have in place an early warning system, and that has been the Oricom in conjunction with a Vtech video monitor. We followed the simple instructions, which included getting a 6mm piece of ply wood from the hardware store to put on top of the bed slats. The Oricom sensors are then on top of this under the mattress. The movement sensors pick up even the tiniest movement, they are incredible. They will even pick up music playing in the room, so be sure ... MoreOur first son died in his sleep by suffocation. He had rolled onto his stomach during the night, face down. They will even pick up music playing in the room, so be sure you test it before use!The best part of the Oricom is that it sits on the side of the cost, directly connected to the sensor pads.it shows a green flashing light to indicate that it feels movement. So once you see The light you know baby is okay. It also has a very loud alarm which you can hear most places in your house, but can definitely hear from the video monitor! Its been hard having our second son in his own room, but now when I wake at night I know that silence doesn't mean death. If the alarm has not sounded, then my son is still breathing! It truly feels like Oricom is watching over our son as he sleeps. If the worst were to happen, we would be alerted and be there in seconds, where we at least have a fighting chance of saving our boy. Can't recommend this product highly enough. Just watch out for things in the room that could give false readings, such as an open window, a fan, or music. These things are sensitive, so you want a space devoid of all movement aside from your baby.
After a lot of research and recommendations from friends, we landed on the Oricom Babysense7 for our newborn due to its independence from mains power and wifi. We had some technical difficulties with the first control unit, however, the Oricom Support team immediately sent a replacement control unit free of charge which works great. The sensors clearly show when the unit is on and when it detects movement, and when you remove the babyfrom the cot or bassinet, the sensor detects no movement and begins to click and then the alarm sounds. Great peace of mind that it's working as intended. We haven't had any false alarms after 2 weeks of use (knock wood). Highly recommend.
I can confidently say Oricom needs a shake up in their returns process, as they have horrendous morals as a company.I purchased these plates only to have multple false alarms and the sensors not triggering when bub wasn't on it.I was advised this was due to myself owning a slat based cot, spring mattress and using a ceiling fan (in summer). Oricom stated I needed to know all of this before purchasing the product, assuming they expect first time parents to be experts on the countless important items they need to purchase for their baby's. Oricom refused to acknowledge the plates false alarm suggesting it must be a pre existing medical condition with my baby.I have never seen a company so happy to take the customers money and shift all blame to every other ... Oricom refused to acknowledge the plates false alarm suggesting it must be a pre existing medical condition with my baby.I have never seen a company so happy to take the customers money and shift all blame to every other entity (the retail company and customer) evolved in the point of sale. For all other parents, please do you reaserch when It comes to Oricom products and if you are unsure I would look at other companies as once they have your money, your child's safety is not their issue.
Very reliable product! We were gifted this as a bundle for our baby shower. We were Psyched out by the overload of SIDS information provided by the midwives. We would sleep with 1 eye open or take shifts as we were overly paranoid. TBH It has given us a couple of frights when it had gone off or if one of us had forgotten to turn it off when we have picked her up.We soon found our LO is a wriggler she will wriggle completely off the sensor. Although we never fully rely on it, it has given us some peace of mind and some restful nights, knowing it works well, when ever it goes off it does wakes us up, we check her, adjust her or the pad & get a restful sleep.
