I attached a picture of the shoulder strap width. I have pretty broad shoulders and this is still too wide for me. I compared it to my Gregory daypack and the Osprey fairpoint from 2013 (which isn’t women’s specific) and this pack’s straps are wider than both

I bought this to bring on a long trip, and my travel partner bought the Farpoint 40 (basically the men's model of this pack, without the removable day pack). Because I saw both actually side by side, I realized that the 40l Fairview (and Farpoint) has some exterior pockets and a laptop sleeve, whereas the 40l bag that comes as part of this set has only the one large main pocket (and two zip mesh pockets inside, which the separate 40l also has). As a result, I returned the set and bought the 40l and the daypack separately. They work exactly the same and the whole Fairview/Farpoint system is interchangeable, but I like having the additional organizational help, as even with packing cubes I tend to lose smaller objects in the cavernous main pocket. I've had the packs almost 5 years and still love them. My Fairview 70 suffered some minor strap damage by baggage handlers and they fixed it for me.I find the backpacks very comfortable and size is just right for me. I would recommend anyone to look up the sizes and try packs on for fit and comfort if possible. It might be that the Farpoint offers a better size option for you.In terms of the 40 vs 70 litre backpacks - I do find that I use the 40 a lot more than the 70. As well as being my weekend break bag, I tend to use it for longer holidays too to save on hold baggage costs (and avoid lost luggage!). I have repeatedly used it for 2-3 week trips and managed OK.

I have to say, I'm not fond of this bag. As a 5’4” 125 lb female who was gifted it for travel use, I found it bulky and awkward. And, maybe this isn't a problem for everyone, but it is for me; it looks dorky on. I will be returning it.The framing is too rigid for it to tuck away easily. You can't hide it under a restaurant seat or something if you stop on your way to/from the airport or train. It's always just there next to you, bulky and in the way.Also, I know that it is likely designed to fit this way for the best ergonomic support and less shoulder strain, but the top of the pack comes halfway up the back of my head. I used this bag for 3 months backpacking in Europe and it was fantastic. On flights I used the main bag as a carry on the and the smaller one as my personal item. It's technically a couple inches taller than a carry on bag allowance but I never had to check it (even on budget airlines), once as I was boarding a flight the boarding pass agent said "that bag is too tall" but he still didn't make me check it. It's so nice on a long trip to be able to fully open the bag instead of stuffing a backpacking bag. When walking around I usually wore the small bag strapped to the front of me because the weight was back heavy when it was clipped on to the larger one. I bought the Osprey Fairview 40 for an upcoming month long trip to Italy. We'll be taking trains from place to place and I wanted a manageable travel backpack to supplement the small rolling bag I'll also have. I researched and tried on multiple bags. In the 40L'ish size range the Fairview has by far the the best suspension and hip belt of any bag I found. At 60+ comfort is my #1 consideration and I was shocked to find how almost no similar sized travel bags had a good enough hip belt to very comfortably transfer the weight off shoulders. The bags material and zippers seem quite sturdy and an array of handles will make carrying a breeze if I want to hold the bag rather than put it on my back. This is such a high quality bag but with no place to reasonably securely put things I want easy access to I can only give it three stars. Add two well placed and resonably sized outside zippered pockets and it would get five stars from me for sure. I'd still recomment the bag - again, best suspension out there - but with the concern about the lack of outside zippered pockets.

That worked very well. I missed having a place to keep my yeti cup. I did use the open area a few times, dont love it, but it did ok. I have a larger Osprey backpack, as well as the daylite plus, I really am brand loyal to Osprey. I'm buying the Porter 46 for my daughters trip to Scotland to compare to the Fairview. I think we can get away w flying easyjet, lets see lol...
I bought this right before leaving for a 2 month trip through Europe. I previously used a North face duffel backpack for traveling but wanted something with more support.It does distribute weight very well and has allowed me to carry 20-30 lbs with relative ease, even up steep hills or stairs. But it's so uncomfortable! I think there's something with the structure or rigidity that doesn't work with my anatomy, maybe because I have mild scoliosis. I previously used a North face duffel backpack for traveling but wanted something with more support.It does distribute weight very well and has allowed me to carry 20-30 lbs with relative ease, even up steep hills or stairs. But it's so uncomfortable! I think there's something with the structure or rigidity that doesn't work with my anatomy, maybe because I have mild scoliosis. I'm always in the way, or the bag itself is always in the way, because it doesn't fit under seats or in any compartments. It's large and round and bulky. I block people from being able to go around me. It's a hassle to wear.I don't plan on using this backpack again
I need a carry on size bag for a trip I was taking and the one I has wasn't durable enough. So after some research I was looking at getting the 55L Fairview (which is just a combo of a 40L and 15L together). But I read the review that the 40L had more features than the one that comes in the combo so got that instead and purchased the 15L separately, too. It was such a great investment! The bag was the perfect size for overhead compartment (and the smaller bag fits under the seat nicely). I was able to pack everything for my adventure. The plus side was the ease of carrying both bags around. You can attach the 15L to the back or it has clips so it can hang in front of you - I did the latter mostly.
