I spent some time comparing the kyte and the sirrus, but the kyte won out - partly because, instead of a zipper in front, it has a pouch to easily stash a jacket, for example, without getting anything else wet. I love this backpack as it’s ideal for a single to short multiple day hiking, because it’s huge volume and good support; however, after comparing 46L and 36L, I decided to go for 46L as the width is almost same but 46L is deeper. If you never plan to go for hiking more than 4 days, Kyte 36L is ideal for you! While considering a longer hike, choose 46L. Excellent backpack in general, quality good, worth the money!

Excellent backpack, hydration system - not so much

I would have awarded that backpack 5 out of 5, 10 out of 5 maybe, it's an excellent piece of engineering. It took me a while to fit it correctly (at some point I was close to giving up and thought it was a waste of money). However, once I did, it fit so well that even when loaded 12-13 kg (and my weight is about 64 kg), I didn't feel it at all, even after many hours on the trail every day for a week. It doesn't shift, no pressure on my back or shoulders whatsoever, no need to periodically adjust the straps (unless I put on/remove a jacket or insert full hydration bladder), nothing chafes or hurts.Having said that. 2 stars down for hydration system. This backpack is 'locked' into having to use a hydration system (like all Osprey backpacks really). This backpack is 'locked' into having to use a hydration system (like all Osprey backpacks really). And this is where the issues begin. On a multi-day hike in the wilderness it's very difficult to keep hydration bladder and, most critically, the hose, clean. While I managed to keep bladder mould-free (lots of effort every evening), I wasn't so lucky with the hose (with negative consequences for my stomach and the hike itself). Yes, technically that would be a review of a bladder (and I'll add it there too), but as there is really not much option to use water bottles with this design (side pockets are too small and, even if I manage to fit a bottle into them and even if I manage to get it out, I would not be able to get it in without stopping and removing a backpack, unless there is someone else with me to help, but I hike solo). Hence I can't score this backpack separately from a hydration system. But if you don't use hydration system, or can keep your hydration system hose mould-free on the multi-day hike, or don't suffer stomach upsets from mould (or don't mind hiking when any moment the nature might call, big time), then it's 5 out of 5 for this backpack.

Good fit and nice features
5 July 2022

This is a very nice pack. I use it for day trips when i need to carry a fair bit of stuff and it carries the weight well. I like the outside back pouch where you can put your wet things, pockets on the waistband for lip balm, sunscreen etc. The top pocket is nice and big, and the top opening to the pack is big as well. The only downside is that although it has ice axe loops, I couldn't figure how to attach the shaft of the axe. I just added a velcro loop from another pack which work fine.

Great backpack, hard to get….
24 March 2023

Haven’t taken it out yet, but what I see and tried is absolutely perfect. Lightweight, adjustable torso, numerous pockets, divisions, U zipped front opening… too many features to name. I am 170cm tall, and after torso adjustment it feels great. After having good quality (and heavy) Deuter,Kyte 66 is a lifesaver. Looking forward to a next multi day hike. Five star Osprey product.

Great pack
12 April 2023

This was a great backpack and I chose it over the Kestral 58 for extra space. It weighed a little more than the Exos line, but having a little more padding and durable materials was worth the extra weight. In all honesty I returned this product before taking it on a 4 day trip in the Grand Canyon, only because I had more gear than I wanted to cram into this pack. So I stuck with my 6+ pound Lowe Alpine pack that is 20+ years old because it could fit 30% more inside the pack.....so basically it is a great pack that I never had the chance to use.

Great travel bag
17 January 2023

I haven’t used this bag yet as this review is part of a promotion, but plan on using it for a trip to Europe in the spring. There’s lots of pockets to organize your things plus very comfortable on (everything is adjustable). It should fit most airlines carry-on requirements, which is why I chose this bag, so I wouldn’t have to check my bag every time I travelled. It would also be a really great backpack for a 2-3 day backpacking/camping trip (will be using it for that at some point as well). All in all, great bag!! (I’m 5ft 7, 140 pounds and got a M).

It fits great but the ventilation isn’t good
25 February 2023

I traded this pack in twice - the first time I just thought I had a defective unit, but I had the same issue with the second one. The pack fits great, has really good and convenient pockets, and is well-adjustable, but the back ventilation “airscape” design seems like it is supposed to be concave so that your back isn’t in contact with the pack, but both units I tried very quickly became convex to the point where it was pushing into my back. This made it so anytime I wore the pack for more than a few hours, my back was the only part getting hot and sweaty. Unless I just happened to get two defective units, I’d say this is a design flaw and you should look at the Atmos or Exos which have much better ventilation designs.

Kyte 36 review
17 January 2023

Incredible pack. I already have a 65L pack from Osprey and I love their quality. One of the reasons I chose Osprey was their lifetime guaranteed warrantee for any defects. The Kyte is incredibly adjustable, hugging my hips, and the majority of the weight is on my lower back, not my upper back. Because of this, I am not hunched forward, and I am able to maintain my balance when moving with the pack. The 36L Kyte seems very versatile whether I want to go on a short trip, a weekend trip, a multi day hike or possibly a vacation where I pack efficiently. I'm excited to take this pack on longer hikes this year. Thanks Osprey. And Thanks Altitude Sports!
