Nice pack. Carries well skiing, doesn't weigh much, well organized. Fairly true to 32 liter size as advertised, just big enough for me for cold and long day tours. Enough pockets (1 exterior top good-sized zipper pocket, 1 exterior zippered belt pocket for incidentals, 1 easily accessed interior zipper pocket, 2 internal drop pockets, plus the whole avy-tools section, and the exterior velcro-closure helmet net stash pocket if you want to count that. Some concern about long term durability (more than a few years) of the external avy-tools and top-pocket zippers, they are pretty lightweight items, but that's sort of standard nowadays.... The main compartment zipper is massive, which is good.Have only skied with it a few times, no ski carrying yet, really liking it ... MoreNice pack. Almost perfect Ski Tour Pack for Fast and Light

This pack is nearly perfect. I have been using this pack for three seasons now as my everyday resort pack and the pack I take most often for short tours or sidecountry work. At 22L it is the perfect size for the essentials, has a well thought out and laid out pocket system, is very durable and has a bunch of nice ski specific details. The only problem I have had with this pack is the helmet holder. The holder is attached to the pack via dowels threaded through nylon loops, it is pretty easy for the dowels to come out of the loops and it is a super pain to thread them back through. Once you have owned the pack for a while you will get the hang of resolving this, but it is a bit annoying and fiddly. Other than that though, this thing is great, fit is spot on, 6'2", ... MoreThis pack is nearly perfect. Highly recommend!

This is my 3rd Osprey pack that serves its own purpose and as usual am impressed by the quality and usability. However, after some thought I have to knock off a star despite being more than capable of getting me through my recent hut trip.1.) The helmet carry struggles when the pack is not full. This works as expected when the pack is full, but I had a heck of a time getting my helmet to stay on properly after shedding weight in the hut and going out for a few laps. I tried multiple different configurations, but by the end of the trip if I was skinning with a light pack I stopped fiddling with the helmet carry and threw it straight in my pack. Not a major issue, but caused some annoyance.2.) No straps or ties for the top flap if you are using the brain. I didnt think this would bother me, but even when I rolled it or stuffed it inside the main compartment it was just another thing in the way that didnt have anywhere to go, and I couldnt use the loops on the flap for the helmet carry that I thought may have solved my previous issue.Would purchase again as I love the dedicated avy pocket, solid feeling while skiing, and no fear of putting my shovel through the side of an ultra light pack.

Chose Ortovox Cross Rider 22 instead
12 July 2023

Ordered two packs, returned this one - so review is just based on inspecting the two in hand and reviewing features and organization. I did not use this pack in the field. I'm an Osprey fanboi so leaned towards this one, and have only ever had great experiences with their products. I found the Ortovox Cross Rider 22 to have basically the same features and setup with a few things I preferred. Both had back panel main access, a-frame and diagonal carry, ice axe loops, and a stashed helmet net. The Ortovox though had a cleaner and simpler implementations especially the diagonal carry - the Osprey seemed oriented towards snowboards - AND it had a hip pocket and access to the main panel from the front via a hybrid emergency pocket setup. Went with the Orto and hope it lives up to quality and durability expectations.

Day or overnight.
26 January 2022

This pack is exactly what I was looking for in a backcountry ski pack. The 42 L size may seem a bit big for a day trip, but after you add in ropes, harness, and medical gear - space can become a tight on any other "day pack". Not with the Osprey Men's Soelden 42 l snowpack. I have used this pack on day trips, and it compresses down nicely. You can also remove the "brain" if you so desire. I have also used this on an extended overnight trip, and I was able to keep all of my gear inside the pack with the exclusion of my sleeping bag. Which I was able to attach to the outside quite easily. The pack fits me well and feels very secure when riding - whether its meadow skipping our joining Elmer Fud on a couloir hunt. Excellent pack with well designed details
9 March 2023

Great pack. Well thought out details. This is replacing my osprey kode 30 from 10 years ago (still going strong, btw). Excellent back and tool pocket access. Comfortable carry, very lightweight. Straps are comfortable. Only improvements for me would be waist pockets on both sides, and a wider waist strap/buckle.

Good but needs improvement - not for splitboarders
9 January 2021

This is a good pack overall, but it's missing a few things to make it great. It has intelligent design and organization, and great quality, comfort, and fit that you've come to expect and appreciate from Osprey. For the most part this pack is very functional and comfortable when fully loaded. However, it needs a bit of refinement. The helmet carry is frustrating. Nearly every time it's stowed for the downhill, the next time I pull it out for skinning one of the sides is detached. This happens regardless of top or back carry orientation. I appreciate the flexibility but it's a pain to fiddle with threading the barrel through the tiny tucked away loop to connect it again with or without gloves, and not something I want to do every time I use it.The hydration tube ... MoreThis is a good pack overall, but it's missing a few things to make it great. I appreciate the flexibility but it's a pain to fiddle with threading the barrel through the tiny tucked away loop to connect it again with or without gloves, and not something I want to do every time I use it.The hydration tube sleeve is not insulated, which doesn't make sense for a snow-specific pack. Finally, it's not ideal for splitboarders as the only carry methods are with the board fully assembled. The ski carry loops on the side of the pack are reinforced and look awesome. However, they're about an inch too narrow to be useful to carry a board when it's split into skis. The vertical board carry is fine for short distances but it puts the board too far away from your body and therefore more work to carry for long periods. Horizontal behind the backpack straps works of course but takes up a lot of horizontal space so not ideal for narrow passages. With these things fixed I would use this pack all the time! As it stands, I regrettably have to look elsewhere.

Great small pack, maybe too small
23 February 2023

I bought the Osprey Soelden pack to get some additional volume over my Stratos 24 for winter use when I carry more gear. Surprisingly, the 32-liter Soelden has less volume than the Stratos 24, so it's not usable for its intended purpose. This packs more like a 22-liter pack and lacks any side pockets, so the useable volume is even less.

Love the details

Got it as a small pack for both outdoors and urban use.Compartments- Big space between your back to the back of the bagpack, can easily fit shoes, clothes, water, etc.- Flat compartment in the front, suitable for even a laptop. (have used it to shove 2 laptops and an iPad.)Fit- Nestles very snugly and you can definitely run with it and it still feels secure.- Back panel is firm but not uncomfortable- Pretty breathable even for use in high humidity climate. (based in Asia). Can be abit heavy given its material and paddings.Overall, pretty versatile and definitely valued for money.

Plenty of room for hut to hut trips
9 March 2022

I bought this pack for some hut trips this winter in Colorado and Canada. My Soelden 32 just didn?t have the capacity.I?m 5?10? and the pack fits me fine. If you are several inches shorter the bottom might hit your butt. What I like:Plenty of capacity.Top and back loading main compartment.Removable lid with two zippered pockets has lots of room for stuff you need to get at quickly.Helmet net attaches to top or back of pack. I like the back of pack option because you don?t have to take the helmet off to get at your gear.Unlike the Soleden 32, the Soleden 42 has avi gear storage in the section of the pack away from your back. This is in addition to top loading. While this is convenient, the large zipper lets in snow. So your gear will get wet. Plan accordingly . This is the only design flaw. In my Soleden 32, this area is used for all your avi and wet gear and it doesn?t matter if snow gets in. The big zipper makes sense for quick access. It just doesn?t make sense in the Soleden 42.The ski carry options are flexible and worked just fine.I was carrying 25 lbs and the pack was comfortable, no issues with fit.
