I ummed and arrred over this back pack for months after seeing I just didn't want to spend that kind of money. But it was absolutely worth it in the end it has such a well thought out design. Able to use for everything and anything. I have used it for hiking and trio not town, and will be using it for overnight and weekend trips. It compacts so small but also expands soo big. Only thing that I think would make it better would be a little flexi hip pocket attached to one of the waist straps

Haven't used it for a trip yet, but it's an excellent fit, very lightweight and brilliantly designed. The internal and external compression straps together are genius. This is a smaller backpack than I have had in the past for travel, but I can see that it's adaptable and you can get a lot in it with clever packing. It appears very well made and strong. Will expect years of use.Diid a lot of research before buying, and I'm sure I made the best choice.I later bought the daylight pack that can be attached to the sojourn. Very happy with that too.

I purchased this pack to accompany a checked Osprey wheeled bag (half full) for a three week trip to Europe. We had tight flight connections and missing a connection would have likely led to a ~3 day delay in getting our bags. Additionally, a couple of our flights were on budget European airlines that have tighter carry on restrictions. So the strategy was to use the Osprey Porter 30L to carry on several days worth of clothes and other essentials in case our checked bags didn't make it. In this regard, the Porter 30L "knocked it out of the park." I actually purchased three bags (Osprey Farpoint 40L and both the Osprey Porter 30L and 46L) and returned the other two. In this regard, the Porter 30L "knocked it out of the park." I actually purchased three bags (Osprey Farpoint 40L and both the Osprey Porter 30L and 46L) and returned the other two. When comparing the bags, I was concerned that the Farpoint 40L and Porter 46L may not have been permitted as carry on with the budget airlines. Also, the Farpoint 40L did not give much additional space over the Porter 30L as it has a more extensive/bulkier harness/frame system which is a more comfortable than the harness on the Porter series.I packed two pairs of pants, a pair of shorts, several pairs of socks/underwear, down vest, running shoes, three or four shirts, laptop, large toiletry bag, a Peak Design tech pouch (carrying adapters, plugs, cables), documents, cycling water bottle, and guide book in the Porter 30L. Yes, the pack was full, but easy to carry on my back and fit in the overhead bin with plenty of room to spare. This pack is amazingly space efficient. While some reviews mention lack of organizational pockets, personally I did not find that the case. The pants went in the bottom secured with the built in straps. Socks went in one internal side pocket, underwear in the other internal side pocket, shirts in a lightweight packing cube above the pants with room for the toiletry bag/tech pouch on top of that. Documents and guide book went in the large outside front pocket which has several internal dividers for phone, pen, keys, Airtag, etc.. Laptop went in to the well protected dedicated laptop sleeve on the harness side. There is also an easily accessible external pouch on the top of the pack where I kept glasses/sunglasses. The main zippers have protective security loops that make it challenging for pickpockets. Some additional observations post trip... The pack is very well made and showed almost no wear at the end of the trip. I also liked that the color (green) was muted and the branding wasn't "in your face" as with some other manufacturers as I like to be a bit discreet when on the road. The harness system does a good job in supporting the weight, but is not as supportive as a true backpacking harness system or probably the harness of the Farpoint series. In retrospect, the budget airlines may have accepted the the Farpoint 40L and/or the Porter 46L if they weren't fully packed. The packs compress well with the Osprey "Straight Jacket" compression system. However, based on stated baggage regulations, budget airlines could refuse you using the 46L or Farpoint 40L as a carry on. As an experiment, on the flight home I packed a little less in the Osprey Porter 30L, pulled out my laptop when sitting in my seat and had no issue tucking the Porter 30L underneath the seat in front of me rather than the overhead bin. I don't think the Porter has a strap to secure the bag to the handle of a roller suitcase and such a strap would have been very helpful.Once home, I wondered could I have done the entire three week trip with just the Porter 30L? Possibly, but it would have been very restrictive (always needing to wear my hiking boot when on the go, doing laundry frequently, no foul weather/winter clothing). However, for a multi day trip maybe up to a week this will replace my wheeled carry on. I'm also pondering getting the Porter 46L for when I need some more room for winter clothes and won't be flying on a budget airline. In closing, I think Osprey makes well designed/rugged travel luggage. Our family has purchased/used at least six Osprey wheeled Shuttle series bags over the last 15+ years. The zipper pulls tend to break with age, and Osprey customer support has been slow to send replacements. Other than that, we've had no issues.

I can't say enough good things about this pack! I took it on a two-week fall trip to Europe and carried this as my only luggage besides a small crossbody for wallet, notebook, etc. I am a 5'3" 125 lb woman and tried a bunch of carry-on-compatible travel packs before settling on this one. I compared it to the Cotopaxi Allpa 28L (great layout/function) and the Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC 30L (well made, but too much space devoted to laptop, etc., for my needs). Neither of those was as comfortable to carry (straps vs. breasts!) as the Sojourn--this pack has load lifters (made a huge difference to comfort) and a nice waist belt. It's shorter than the other too, which made it a better fit for me. Also the compression straps (inside and outside the pack) are useful. My ... MoreI can't say enough good things about this pack! My partner (5'8" male) and I even used this pack for some long day hikes we took; the straps let you you cinch down the pack if there's not much in it (definitely not possible for the Cotopaxi). My partner ended up getting the Sojourn 46 for his travel pack and also loved it. Fully loaded, that one was unwieldy on me, so I went with the smaller pack and packed light.
Osprey makes well designed packs with high quality materials. This new Sojourn Porter 30 L is perhaps the perfect pack for one-bag carryon travel. There is a padded compartment for tech (15â laptop or iPad Pro for perfectly) and unlike other bags, the tech sleeve/pocket is unobtrusive and unnoticeable; it also doesnât steal space from the rest of the bag. The Sojourn Porter opens in a duffel fashion, making it easy to load and quite spacious inside. With use of packing or compression cubes, I was easily able to pack 8 days of moderate/mixed temperature clothing. A bonus is that the bagâs interior is NOT black (the black bag has a grey lining), making it easy to view contents. Also a bonus is the front zippered compartment with multiple options for smaller items, documents or essentials. Finally, the carry straps are nicely padded and comfortable, including a waist belt and sternum strap. However, you may also choose to conceal the straps, and this bag looks like a tidy little duffel, with numerous options to carry (there is a padded top handle, side handle, and it can also be grabbed by the front compression straps). The bad naturally compresses the contents due to the sides being built to sturdily pull inwards (others have likened this to a âstraightjacketâ) - the front straps could also be used to affix this pack to the top of a suitcase handle should you be traveling also with a roller bag.Although this is a newer purchase for me, Iâm confident it will last a very long time. The measurements seem to comply with most airlines for a carryon sized item, and if it is t fully stuffed, it will probably even meet the personal item dimensions.
This Osprey Sojourn 30L pack replaced a worn-out Ogio from 15 years ago. Did a lot of research/video viewing, bought in-store. I love it, so far.For me, this is more used as luggage than for hardcore backpacking, tho Iâm sure itâs good at the latter. I use for 2-4 day trips, or as carryon when longer trips require a suitcase. You can pack the shoulder/waist harnesses into built-in sleeves to make it loaf-shaped, carry-able by side handle - easy to throw into a vehicle or overhead bin. When used as a backpack, can tuck the padded waist belt into the unit if itâs not needed. Shoulder straps have been comfy and breathable, as has been the back, in my minimal use as backpack.Initially I was skeptical about the front compression straps, but if youâre packing in enough ... MoreThis Osprey Sojourn 30L pack replaced a worn-out Ogio from 15 years ago. Iâll be interested to see if I can shove this under an airplane seat, if moderately-filled with electronic gear/book/flight snacks :)Quality feels solid, as I was expecting from having used an Osprey 24L daypack for a decade.Like I said to the guy in the REI - thereâs just so many great options to choose from, anymore! Iâm happy with this pack, for my needs.
I ordered Osprey Sojourn 30 for my upcoming trip to Europe. I semi packed the bag and wow! Itâs so uncomfortable to carry for women. I just walked around the house for a while. Bag is spacious and nice. Straps are narrow and dig into your arms. I canât believe they didnât test that. All the upgrades to leave the uncomfortable strap system. I canât imagine the bigger bags in the same line and this same system. Also straps are scratchy if you are wearing tanks or short sleeves. Not soft at all. Big fail by osprey after waiting for the Porter upgrade. This doesnât feel like an upgrade at all. I returned the bag. Donât buy it if you are a woman.
I bought this as a short trip away backpack and I can honestly say it has met/exceeded all expectations. Comfortable to wear or carry (it has multiple reinforced hand grips) it can fit in most luggage racks, the tan colour is a bit lighter in person and so it stands out more, and the sewn on luggage tag gives you a feeling of safety. There are lots of little, delaying features to help prevent pickpockets getting to your valuables i.e. loops you push zips through and lots of sensibly placed storage options of kit organisation.
Beautiful colour and is the perfect size for carry on Backpack for economy flights. The backpack is made from quality heavy duty, water resistant material. The functional backpack is ideal for travelling with a wide front opening zip for easy access to the inside compartments. There are plenty of storage section inside and at the side there is flexible mess for bottle storage. There are padded walls at the back for laptops with side zip access. The backpack design is well thought out foldable padded straps to wear or carry as a rucksack. Definitely approve.
Very well made, showing expert and precise sewing and using with excellent, sturdy fabric. It safely and compactly carried my fall season clothes for visiting Croatia, from waterproof leather boots, Hoka one ones, rainjacket, puffer jacket, and clothes for a 2 week adventure trip. Everything worked just like the youtube videos promised. It even went beautifully through the checkin luggage at multiple European airports, and it only looked a bit smudged at the last luggage carousel at my home airport. I wish it had wheels. Then, perhaps I mightâve been able to help carry it up the often steep hills and 1-5 flights of stairs in the first 2 hilltop towns throughout Tuscany and Umbria, before we visited Croatia. At the third hilltop town in Italy, I left it in the car ... MoreVery well made, showing expert and precise sewing and using with excellent, sturdy fabric.
