These are my absolute new favorite shorts. They are light weight, quick drying and feel barely there. You will love these at first try-on. Completely functional with handy pocket depth and a zip pocket for essentials. Fit and finish are extraordinary, always top-nothch quality with OR.I was literally "bombed" out of a job over in Iraq, and unfortunately had to leave behind my previous two pairs of shorts. Once the heat was back on here in NM, I ordered up replacements straight away. My other shorts went to some of my local friends, and he loves my righteous hand me downs.

Fantastically light weight and super comfy. Lots of stretch and flex. I haven't been able to wear them hiking yet, but I practically wear them every day. I own the jacket so I already knew the fabric was great. They fit as expected and I have no complaints. I even spilled water on them at work and it just rolled right off. I got the black and coyote color and they look as expected. The black is a bit dull, almost like a dark charcoal grey instead of true black, but I knew it would be because that's the color I have the jacket in. Makes me want to buy the pants. If OR releases a navy or light blue, I'll definitely buy more, I'm just tired of seeing men's pants only available in light khaki and a grey fatigue color.

These shorts rock! I originally purchased them to mountain bike in (love guys shorts for riding) but stupidly let my husband try them on and now he refuses to give them back to me. They look great on him, so I think I have to order myself another pair. He is 5"7, 160lb and they hit right above the knee. We just spend the weekend out in the woods and he wore them to work today since they still look brand new and clean. Great summer shorts for hot days and anything else you throw at them. And for the one bike ride I used them on, they were perfect! Loose enough to move around in and the one shratchy bush I tagged didn't create any snags on the shorts.

I'm so glad that OR recognizes that all short hems do not need to be banging the kneecaps! I'm 6'1", 190, 65 years old.....while I don't necessarily want to revisit the male-hotpants-look of Magnum P.I.,...I don't need to be sporting the dumb and dumber skateboard shredding jammie look either. These 8" inseam shorts are about 2" above my kneecap. The fit is right on....not too tight, not too baggie. They look great with an Echo t-shirt....or a little dressed up with an untucked Astroman button down. My hot, humid, hazy go-to shorts....they wash easy, dry nice....and roll-up pack small. I bought my first pair on sale as the summer ended last year.....as soon as I saw some offered on sale recently, I grabbed two more pair. Hey....they are that nice. Listen up guys, if you are reading this, you, like me, are active ...you run, climb, hike, swim and/or bike. If you continue to be active, into your "senior years", your legs stay toned....uh, even if other parts don't. If you've got legs, might as well show them! And for taller gents, or the jammie crowd, OR does offer them in a 10" length as well.
I really like these shorts. The material is so light and breathable, making it a perfect choice for hot, humid weather activities. My only beef concerns the waistband. After wearing these for a while, the waist tends to feel stretched out, and I have to wear a belt so they don't ride down or feel like they are going to slip right off. The drawstring in the newer version helps a bit, but I would like to see a more robust waistband material that is not prone to stretching so much. I typically wear a size 33" waist, but have actually started getting the Ferrosi shorts in a size down (32) in order to resolve this. You may want to keep this in mind.
These are, simply, my favorite shorts. I use them for everyday purposes as well as backpacking and other outdoor activities. They weigh next to nothing, stretch to accommodate movement, dry fast, and seem reasonably durable considering their insubstantial bulk. The 10" inseam falls above the knees with a slimmish fit around the butt and upper thighs. In my experience the material relaxes somewhat with use. In the updated version, you will notice that the lower pocket is now stitched rather than glued on the right leg, and the overall pocket design has been tweaked. The rest is essentially the same. Overall I prefer the fit and feel of the updated version. One thing to note is that they have reduced the size of the thigh pocket, so cell phone storage is pretty much ... MoreThese are, simply, my favorite shorts. Decent for small key sets, I guess, but I rarely use it. The color options are really nice - I have the Pewter and Mushroom, and they work with most of my shirts. I'm tempted to get the Curry. In the past I had issues with these shorts being a full size too large, to the extent where my normal size (34) required a belt to stay up. The 32 in the previous version fit just right. It seems like they may have adjusted the sizing with this update - The 33 in the update feels similar to the old 32, maybe even a hair more snug (in a good way).
I am not sure when grown men opted to wear street-punk, knee-length baggy "jams"....but even at 65, my legs are in pretty good shape....and I prefer my shorts to ride an inch (at least) above my knee. I equally can't fathom wearing the hot-pants look of a pair of 3 inch inseam OP corduroy short shorts, ala Magnum PI. If I want to sport the Capri look, I'll grow a man bun, move to the Napa Valley, buy a Shih Tzu, name him Wickersham, and start watching sub-titled art movies. Suffice it to say, these shorts ROCK! They indeed are the Goldilocks Shorts I've been looking for....and they look great Right out of the suitcase! ! And I am happy that OR offers a 35 waist. Most times I can carry off a 33 or 34 waist.....but so many outdoors outfitters are going to the slim ... MoreI am not sure when grown men opted to wear street-punk, knee-length baggy "jams"....but even at 65, my legs are in pretty good shape....and I prefer my shorts to ride an inch (at least) above my knee. Most times I can carry off a 33 or 34 waist.....but so many outdoors outfitters are going to the slim look.....which makes that size uncomfortably fitting (at least for me at 6'1", 185 lbs). They are clean cut, made of the famed Ferrosi material and I think they'll be a great summer hiking short.....maybe bike packing as well; maybe even a post lawn-mowing bourbon sipping short....on the back deck....with the dog at my heels and the sun going down short! Plus.....Thank you, OR.....I got them at a reduced price during one of your recent sales.
So disappointed in the Ferrosi pants and shorts. They are supposed to fit true to size but not even close. Measured flat, they are 17.25" across and a 34.5" waist. My waist is 32" and typically size 32 pants still fit large due to companies not going true to size. I typically have to size down one size to a 31. However, OR even confirmed by "Kassie" in the Discussions section of the Ferrosi 10" shorts:Q: My waist measures pretty much exactly 32". Should I order the size 31 or 32?I want these to fit well without a belt, and I find that most size 32 pants and shorts are more like 33" or greater. In Prana for example, size 31 fits my waist perfectly, and 32 is way too loose. So I'm leaning towards ordering the 31, but would appreciate some confirmation!Asked on ... MoreSo disappointed in the Ferrosi pants and shorts. Answer this question1 answerCUSTOMER CAREA: our ferrosi shorts are true to list size and don't run large as most companies do, you should be good to go with the 32!Answered on 6/5/2019 by Kassie from Outdoor ResearchNot the case here! I can fit my fist between my stomach and the waist of the shorts!
I was secretly hoping that these wouldn't live up to the reputation, and my happiness for the pants, but turns out I love the shorts! Great, almost two weeks of wearing, casual around the block and out on the trail, and now I've gone and ordered more in alternate colours to cover off wash days.Very light, and drys quickly. Soaked after washing a car, and yet by the time I finished drying and cleaning windows, shorts were basically dry.Thigh pocket has been perfect for the phone, and I can't be happier that they have belt loops. If you are on the fence, pull the trigger. If you're looking to avoid a second delivery fee, buy more than one. You won't regret it.
High quality fabric, super cool in the heat, dries quickly, and lightweight. The cut/fit is strange. I wear a size 35" waist but because they are often difficult to find, I usually wear a 36 with a belt and sometimes my pants are roomy. Not these. I ordered an XP and the are a little roomy around the waist but a little snug through my buttock. The material is stretchy, so maybe I'll get used to it. The next size up would be way too big. I've got an athletic build but am not bulky. These shorts would be perfect if you are a runner, vegetarian, or a lizard. Be wary, though, if you have any meat on your bones.
