2nd Layer

I am beefing up cold weather layers and was missing a 2nd/3rd layer under external shell for winter workouts...Not yet cold enough for real test with other layer options, but so far is proving good in moderate 45-50 degrees as a second layer with minimal activity level. I bought a S size for a tight fit and because I have wider hips, need to fold the bottom up to close the zipper. The full-length zipper is not two-way zip nor is there an elastic/tie bottom which may (with a wider cut) have eliminated this need to tuck.

A few changes would make this jacket great!

I took this on a backpacking trip to Santa Cruz Island of the Channel Islands. The jacket performed well. I like that it is packable. The fit of the jacket is a bit off. I'm 46 years old with a 40" chest and an athletic build. The medium size fits my chest but does not fit the hip area. The jacket barely zips over my hips. I have to raise the bottom of the jacket up and fold the top over the hip areas so it's not too tight. I think an adjustable, or an elastic waist would help the design. I think a zipper in the inside top left or right of the jacket would help, this would allow a place to store your phone/wallet or anything else.

Bad Fit

I bought this jacket in a size L to use as a mid layer under my ski shell but the fit made it impossible to use. I have 3 other OR jackets in size L and this jacket fits nothing like them. This jacket fit very tight through the chest and back seriously limiting my range of motion, but the lower half through the stomach and waist fit like I expected. The arms are also quite short, i would say 1-2" too short for me, but i am 6'3, so maybe not as bad for someone not as tall. I tried wearing the jacket a couple of times for skiing, because I had no other options, but it just didn't work. It constantly felt like it was riding up my arms and I didn't feel free to move. It seemed decently warm but i was too uncomfortable to judge properly. I might try the hoodie version and see if the fit is different but I really don't want a hood for skiing.

Classic jacket that fits and looks great
11 April 2023

I used to have an OR Neoplume jacket about 20 years ago that I absolutely loved. This jacket is essentially an evolution of that jacket. It is slightly warmer and slightly lighter. The best part is that it's synthetic (I live in the rainy PNW). OR did away with the velcro cuffs that was prone to fraying. The jacket also has a nice collar that actually keeps you warm when fully zipped. I can't speak highly enough about this all-purpose jacket. I'm 6'0" and 190lbs and the size large fits great. I fluctuate up to 205lbs and there is enough room for me at peak weight.

Light Weight Daily Wear Jacket
7 October 2024

I bought this jacket about a month ago in the Space Jam color. I am 6'1", 170 lbs, and I got the medium. I wanted it to fit a little snug so I could use it as a mid layer when the weather really turns. The size of it is fantastic. It is extremely lightweight but warm, perfect for fall or spring. My only gripe is that the space jam color is a bit see through so you can see the spacing in the insulation, it looks a bit like shadows.

Lightweight warmth
3 February 2024

This is an absolute powerhouse of a jacket. The weight to warmth ratio is incredible . My only complaint, if there is one, is that this isn't the most breathable jacket. But it holds up well in wind. For sub 20 degree weather, this is a good base layer or even top layer. It holds up well from about 25-45 degrees if you're moving around. I get very warm in this if temps are higher than that.

My new favorite down substitute
6 December 2021

Item arrived within 3 days from order placement. I have to be honest my first impression of the jacket was not great, holding it against the light and seeing thru the seams made me think it couldn't possibly hold any warmth. Glad to report I was dead wrong! I took this jacket on a road trip from BC to the Northern Territories, having days with -15C and 24km/h winds and this jacket kept me warm with just a merino baselayer. I paired it up with my Ferrosi grid hooded jacket on the windy days and felt very comfortable hiking around. I've since been using this jacket in my hunting backpack for days sitting in the blind due to its light weight and compressibility, plus I no longer have to pick down feathers from inside the bag every time now! The internal pockets were a nice surprise to store touque/glove liners. The ziper can be hard to operate with gloves, but that's a welcome trade-off for its minimalist design. Very happy with the purchase!

Nice Playing Jacket
4 June 2024

I bought the jacket for golf. It has very nice features of being light (stated 10.9 oz) and does not restrict my golf swing. I was warm wearing a t shirt underneath in lower 50's temps and in a wind of 8-10 mph while walking. I would have liked it more if: 1) the zippers were metal; and 2) A chest pocket besides the side ones to help carry balls, tees and markers while playing. I'm 5'9 and 135 lbs, a mid-weight layer can comfortably fit underneath and the sleeve and jacket length are fine. I'm not sure how it'll work, however, in conditions that are somewhat colder and more windy.

So very very good
13 June 2024

I normally don't stray from Patagonia and Arcteryx for my technical and outdoors clothing and gave the OR Superstrand LT Hoody a shot this last winter as a replacement for my Nano Puff Hoody and was pleasantly surprised at the build, quality, and incredible lightnesss of it. Became an instant fan and have purchased several OR items since. After seeing the jacket version on sale at S&S, it was a deal I couldn't pass up. The fit is also perfect, not too tight, not to loose, and a great range of movement. Also, the earth to weight ratio is amazing. Take the leap and buy it. You won't be sorry.

Weird fit
11 October 2024

Love OR products but this jacket is a really weird fit. For me, the Large is great in the middle but too tight and constrictive in the chest, I can't even raise my arm to horizontal comfortably. But the XL is good in the chest but swimming in the middle, it's like wearing a muumuu. Quality seems good and I love the styling, but the dimension of the template they're using just doesn't fit me.
