Bad Fit

I bought this jacket in a size L to use as a mid layer under my ski shell but the fit made it impossible to use. I have 3 other OR jackets in size L and this jacket fits nothing like them. This jacket fit very tight through the chest and back seriously limiting my range of motion, but the lower half through the stomach and waist fit like I expected. The arms are also quite short, i would say 1-2" too short for me, but i am 6'3, so maybe not as bad for someone not as tall. I tried wearing the jacket a couple of times for skiing, because I had no other options, but it just didn't work. It constantly felt like it was riding up my arms and I didn't feel free to move. I might try the hoodie version and see if the fit is different but I really don't want a hood for skiing.

Classic jacket that fits and looks great

I used to have an OR Neoplume jacket about 20 years ago that I absolutely loved. This jacket is essentially an evolution of that jacket. It is slightly warmer and slightly lighter. The best part is that it's synthetic (I live in the rainy PNW). OR did away with the velcro cuffs that was prone to fraying. The jacket also has a nice collar that actually keeps you warm when fully zipped. I can't speak highly enough about this all-purpose jacket. I'm 6'0" and 190lbs and the size large fits great. I fluctuate up to 205lbs and there is enough room for me at peak weight.

Great Jacket!

Got the SuperStrand LT in Large size. I'm 5'10" 195 lbs, and it fits perfectly. It's crazy how lightweight this jacket is, and how warm it is, compared with similar jackets I've had. I bought it to use as an insulating layer, but it also works well as an outer layer too, blocking wind and keeping me dry in light rain.

Light, warm enough but sizing is off & missing features
31 December 2021

I have a ton of OR jackets and puffies. This one is really baggy in the stomach area compared to a transcendant hoody or anything else. It is really lightweight, seems like it would be warm, and does have interior glove pockets but there is no drawcord at the waist so the wind would shoot right up. Also on the jacket, the fabric on the back of the neck seemed like it didn't have any fill in it. With a couple of slight updates, this could be an amazing layer. Maybe next year will check all of the boxes.

Love this synthetic insulted layer!
3 December 2021

So happy with this jacket! The Medium is a PERFECT fit on my 5'8" body - great sleeve length, great body length, and not too baggy or restrictive. For the weight and reasonable price, this jacket is very warm and perfect for over my performance lightweight fleece mid-layer. It's definitely on the thinner side but I'm not worried about the decrease in durability because it's never my outer layer, I put a soft shell or hard shell over it as needed and this is the layer I remove as I get warm and still need the soft/hard shell protection.

Meh
18 October 2022

Description says it 'gives you the best of both down and synthetic insulation,' which led me to believe it actually had both, in some sort of hybrid insulation. It is all synthetic, with little to no loft unfortunately. I has hoping it would be warmer. I wear 'large' comfortably with all OR tops, except this one is thigh in the armpits for some strange reason. Kind of disappointed.

My new favorite down substitute
6 December 2021

Item arrived within 3 days from order placement. I have to be honest my first impression of the jacket was not great, holding it against the light and seeing thru the seams made me think it couldn't possibly hold any warmth. Glad to report I was dead wrong! I took this jacket on a road trip from BC to the Northern Territories, having days with -15C and 24km/h winds and this jacket kept me warm with just a merino baselayer. I paired it up with my Ferrosi grid hooded jacket on the windy days and felt very comfortable hiking around. I've since been using this jacket in my hunting backpack for days sitting in the blind due to its light weight and compressibility, plus I no longer have to pick down feathers from inside the bag every time now! The internal pockets were a nice surprise to store touque/glove liners. The ziper can be hard to operate with gloves, but that's a welcome trade-off for its minimalist design. Very happy with the purchase!

Pleasantly surprised
15 January 2022

So far I've used it for everyday wear in an urban setting.I'm actually very surprised how lightweight it was coming out of the box. The fit is nice and the zipper glides. On its own it's not that warm. I've worn it all the way down to -10C, I felt fine with just a light crew neck sweater underneath. Wearing a shell on top definitely helps. I've used my Foray with this jacket and it feels comparable to wearing a lighter down jacket.I'll have to bring this out on a field ex one day to see how well it will do

Poor Quality
26 January 2023

For $198 this jacket is low quality. There's no lining and thus you have bare seams. Plus the fit was for bulky dudes rather than for an athletic build. I'm disappointed in Outdoor Research for producing such a low quality item.

Very warm and comfortable synthetic jacket
31 December 2021

This is a very warm and comfortable jacket. When the temperatures are below 0°C, I wear it on top of a fleece jacket and on my days that is sufficient.I am not yet commenting on durability because I have had it for less than a season. In my experience, synthetic jackets are not extremely durable. But I hope it will last a few autumns and winters.
