I wanted a basic DVD/Blueray player from a reliable brand at an affordable price and so I picked this one. It plays fine but it is a real pain to get back to the main menu to play other episodes of a multiple episode tv series etc. Also it does not remember where you are up to on a movie and resume even on one DVD which I would consider a standard feature these days. These were not obvious in the specs that were proved.Only plays Australian, not International DVDs.Otherwise it a good little player.

Very disappointing that nowhere on the web page did it mention that a LAN connection was required. I bought this to be able to access Netflix and You tube as well as dvds. The previous one I perchased 2 years ago was cheaper and had wifi. Now I have to purchase an adaptor before I can use it. It would have been cheaper to buy a freeview box.

Does a good job

I’ve had this little guy since 2017 and it’s still working flawlessly. It plays all related formats, not as refined as more expensive models but perfectly fine for the price. I’m still impressed with the file playback from USB, it plays more formats then my new Panasonic 4K player. Thumb drive and portable hard drive. Only negative is the noise it makes while accessing info on discs. It’s relatively loud on occasion when a movie is playing, like a clunk clunk sound.

Excellent product
1 June 2022

I bought this product after researching DVD players. The price was within my budget and usage wise would be limited as I buy box sets of DVDs. The player works perfectly and never misses a beat. Bing Lee always gives excellent service and is very helpful at all times. I noticed that the player came on special the day after I bought it, and I called the company. They were happy to refund what I had paid the day before at the discounted price. Well done Bing Lee.

Features are more a gimmick than a function
19 July 2021

Has built in Netflix and YouTube..... and nothing else. No other streaming services available, no option to download or use other services, which pretty much defeats the point of even having the device as smart streaming capable. You can cast from your phone to the device, but only for pre-installed apps (netflix and youtube). Casting other services requires addition of a chrome cast.Software interface is clunky but workable. Device has a tendency to not respond to commands requiring restart

Good value

I bought this to replace my now-dead BD65 which I'd had for about 6 years. The most notable differences were the small size of the BD84, the lack of a digital display on the unit and the lack of stereo outputs on the back. This is a nuisance for me as I was using my old player as a CD drive for my stereo system. Panasonic have also changed the menu screen, which I found less likeable than the BD65. The remote control is also much smaller than my old one but since they are both on the same channel, I can use either. Load times were considerably faster than the older machine, which I hoped they would be as it had been something of an annoyance in the past (First World Problem!). Load times were considerably faster than the older machine, which I hoped they would be as it had been something of an annoyance in the past (First World Problem!). There is a limited range adjustments for the picture but it is possible to customise the look of the BD84 to suit personal tastes. Panasonic do not sell this player with DVD Region coding disabled. If you need this done, you ring them and get an order number. Then you take your player to an authorised service centre where they will do it, usually while you wait. It's a significant inconvenience and if the idea doesn't appeal, there are other Blu-ray players in this price bracket that are worth a look. Overall, the BD84 represents good value for money. Panasonic have obviously gone on a serious cost-cutting mission to keep the price down but the player still performs well. Pros: good picture and sound, fast load times, small size, included internet apps Cons: DVD Region locked, lack of frontal display, lack of stereo connectors, basic setup options

It works! What else can I say
21 March 2022

This unit was purchased to replace a dead Blu-Ray player by the same manufacturer, and meets all our requirements. I mean, as long as it plays DVD's and Blu-Ray disks, that's all that can be expected of it. And in that regard it has performed flawlessly thus far. The small footprint if the unit is good also.

Problems from day 1
20 April 2022

While part way through watching a DVD, the reader loses sync between image and sound, so the actor's lips are moving before you hear them speak. Also, the reader occasionally sticks partway through a movie, then switches itself off before restarting, and then sticks at the same spot again. I've cleaned the discs but it makes no difference. Terrible DVD player!

Replacement Blu-Ray Player
27 March 2022

Our old Samsung blu ray player finally decided that it had enough after about 12 years. We were looking for a replacement but didnt want to pay an arm and a leg. Weve had Panasonic before do decided for just over $100 this would be good. They didnt have the wifi version but no problem as we can connect it to our home LAN to get software updates. Works great and very easy to install. Much smaller box as we dont record anymore with the availability of streaming.

Unsatisfactory Blu-Ray Plaer
16 February 2021

This product was a complete waste of money. It will play purchased Blu-Ray discs satisfactorily, but would not work properly with my home burnt Blu-Ray discs. The problem was although it would play computer discs quite well, the fast forward would not work. This means that if I wanted to see something at the end of the disc, I would have to wait 2 hours for the player to reach the end. This is totally unacceptable. This came as a surprise as I have found Panasonic Blu-Ray Recorders play all my discs satisfactorily. Soon after this purchase I bought a Sony BDP-S3500 Blu-Ray player, and I am pleased to say that this worked well. So to sum up, this Panasonic product may be quite adequate if only used for playing purchased commercial discs, but for playing computer ... MoreThis product was a complete waste of money.
