This involves much less button pushing and works well for me. Overall the oven cooks quick and fast and provides even cooking. The inside is fairly easy to keep clean. However it does have some annoyances:- Once the cooking time is selected, time cannot be added during the cook cycle until the oven has stopped.- Because of the turntable design, the oven cannot be used without the turntable- The oven does not have a temperature probe and one cannot be used is that all cooking requires the turntable- There are no dedicated timed defrost settings. Defrost settings can only be set by weight. However a lower power setting could be chosen with time to mimic the defrost action.- The front is easy to keep clean as there are no soft buttons as the entire front of the unit is glass.- The functionality of the oven takes a bit of getting used to is that some of the settings are done by multiple pushing of the buttons while others require the slide bar. In general the slide bar used for time settings and the buttons are used for everything else, such as power settings.- The automatic settings, of which there are 20, only are described by a few items that they are recommended for cooking, with no details regarding times or cycles.- The help information on the oven itself does not list the automatic settings.

Congratulations to Panasonic for creating the most complicated user interface human kind has come up with yet. There is no digital keypad as one would expect from any other microwave, but an unclear set of hieroglyphics with an abstruse set of codes that you have to memorize to cook your food. Quinoa is number 5 while brown rice is code 15...give me a @#$@#$@# break!!!! My life is complicated enough. No thanks. Returned and bought a Breville.

The 9 âpictures/padsâ represent:Popcorn, Sensor/Cook Reheat, Power LevelCoffee/Milk, Quick 30 sec, Cooking TimerInverter Turbo, Keep Warm, Clock setThere is a slider bar just above the âpictures/padsâ options. This slider bar is what I use most for cooking time. There is a plus on one side and a negative on the other with 3 pictures in between. I have eggs every morning. It is easy to hold down the positive symbol to add time to cook. If you hold the positive symbol down for a short time, it moves time in 5 secs intervals instead of just inching up 1 sec at a time. I love this feature and use the most. When I get the temperature I want, I touch the âpicture/padâ for starting the microwave. This is incredibly handy and makes the microwave very friendly. The main thing I noticed is that my eggs cooked faster than the previous microwave I used to have. I got thoroughly cooked eggs 5 whole secs faster. The reason this Panasonic Microwave heats so well is because of the Inverter Technology. This technology heats food evenly at all temperature levels with continuous heat. This is opposed to pulse heating. Pulse heating doesnât cook evenly because it blasts the food with pulses of heat. The Inverter Technology makes the edges as well as the middle of your food cook evenly. No more mushy or cool middles in the center of the Panasonic Microwave. This features works really well.Another feature that helps make this Panasonic Microwave a step above the rest is the Cyclonic Wave Technology. This technology heats in 3D. This results in precise heating making food heating and tasting better. I have to admit I have not noticed a better taste from food heating up in this manner. But food is evenly cooked and I do enjoy that.Touch the Sensor cooking or reheating âpicture/padâ to make cold food hot and ready to eat. Then select reheat symbol on the slider bar. Lastly touch the start âpicture/pad.â Warming up hamburgers or hotdogs is great with this feature. Food should be already cooked before this operation. It is mainly for cold food from the fridge to the Panasonic Microwave. There is also a more/less up and down triangles on the menu toward the bottom. This provides extra time (up) or less time (down) when cooking things like coffee/milk or foods like popcorn. This is convenient if you want things a little warmer or colder. There is also a feature called Inverter Turbo Defrost. It will defrost frozen food items. Touch the Inverter Turbo Defrost âpicture/padâ and the set the weight using the slider bar to put in the weight. Then touch the start âpicture/pad.â There is a conversion table included in the instruction booklet with ounces, hundredths of pounds and tenths of pounds to help out. Be sure to let stand for a time before opening up the food so the middle can get cooked through thoroughly. Also the instruction gives examples of most commonly defrosted foods to assist in cooking with the Panasonic Microwave. The 2.2 cubic ft in the Panasonic Genius Prestige Plus actually makes a pretty big microwave. If you have a big kitchen, it will set nicely in an open space on the countertop. If you have a medium to small kitchen, the microwave really stands as âbig.â For example the rotating glass surface in the microwave is 16.5â. This is not a fault, but getting used to the size of this microwave will take some time. The instruction booklet will be your best friend when you start out. Once you know what you are doing (after cooking with the microwave for some time), the Panasonic Microwave is pretty easy to use.I really enjoy the technology in the Panasonic Genius Prestige Plus 2.2 Cubic Feet Microwave with Sensor Cooking. It warms food up very well and thaws food out very well. The Inverter Technology and Cyclonic Wave Technology really help to elevate this Panasonic Microwave to another level of most useful microwaves. You will come to master the use of this Panasonic Microwave with little time and little reading.

In the box is the microwave and the plate insertion. Keep in mind that the owners manual maybe inside of the microwave and keep it close by because there are so many features and great information to read. I must admit that this is the first product that I have actually read the manual from the beginning to the end. The microwave is really big but it is very light. Make sure you have a place to store that allows for three of the sides to room for the vents. Also make sure you remove the plastic wrap that covers the whole microwave. The manual is very thorough and tells you what each button does and there are even recipes and instructions on how to cook different items. Another feature that I really like and I find very helpful is the child lock.Since the microwave works with sensors I highly recommend reading the manual and using the types of containers that is recommended.Overall, I really love this microwave. From the beautiful design, to the updated buttons, I am actually excited to use this machine to its full potential!
As others have stated, this microwave is unique in that it doesn't have the standard number pad on the front. All of the features are available through the picture buttons that take a small adjustment to get used to; but you adjust after a couple of days. The main issue that I have with the Microwave is the trim kit. First- it's expensive, the trim kit is literally half the cost of the microwave. Second- it is difficult to install. I got it to replace a kitchenaid microwave that also used a 30" trim kit; but when I went to put it in, it wouldn't fit. I ended up having to hire someone and pay an additional $175 for them to cut into my cabinetry to make it work. There are several complaints about the trim kit in the reviews, so I know that my experience has been ... MoreAs others have stated, this microwave is unique in that it doesn't have the standard number pad on the front. If you are getting this for a freestanding counter microwave then I'd recommend, but if you are installing it then I'd say to picck an easier one to install.

Never have we given a microwave oven a second thought, this one was obviously innovative and stylish, looks lovely in our kitchen. This is our second Panasonic Inverter microwave. The previous was the last generation Inverter oven which we have used for well over a year, which is still going strong without any issues. It has performed marvelously, and the quality and durability are top notch. The new NN-SE985S is built upon the same excellent engineering as the previous unit and packed with new innovations.Inverter cooking technology compared with older microwave technology:- The older microwave cooking method is achieved by turning on and off only the high heat which creates hot and cold spots throughout the food. My experience with the older method was that food typically was a bit rubbery and many times overcooked.- Inverter ovens cook with a steady stream of power at what ever power setting you select which cooks the food evenly throughout. If you set your power setting to medium, then your unit will not cook at high turning on and off (for instance) but will cook at a continuous 50% of power. It makes a huge difference.Panasonic has also implemented what they call Cyclonic Wave Technology which âsurrounds food with ultra-efficient 3D waves to create a fast, even, and healthy cooking experienceâ and Turbo Defrost which allows you to defrost and cook your food faster while retaining flavor, texture and nutrients. One innovation that at first caused a scratching of the head was there is no longer a number keypad, the menu is driven with simple to use timer features and âPicto Labels.â What they call Picto Labels are simply well-designed Icons. After reading and familiarizing myself with the new menu control panel found that the new layout is far superior and smoother in operation. The innovation list goes on with new features for sensor cooking and an interactive menu screen with step by step cooking instructions. The unit is 2.2 cubic feet which is considerably larger than out last unit which I believe was 1.6 cubic feet, yet the foot print is not as large as I had imagined. Fits nicely into the same space as our last unit.If you do purchase the Panasonic, make sure to remove the lovely blue plastic shipping cover. At first glance I thought it was a nice blue hue of stainless steel.Like the lit control panel for use at night. The one improvement I would have liked to have been included in the design was for the control panel to light up at night by simply touching the panel. To light up the control panel at night you must first open the door.We cooked our breakfast this morning using the Panasonic and was able to place three large breakfast bowls on the glass tray together and everything came out deliciously.Big thumbs up. With my experience with the last unit I highly recommend you taking a good look at the Panasonic unit, believe you will be delighted with the new Microwave by Panasonic.Bon Appetit
PROS:- It really is a gorgeous appliance in your kitchen! The stainless steel and glass/touchscreen interface is really crisp.- I love how big the microwave compartment and turntable is. I could fit very big plates and bowls in here without worrying I am making it to full.- The biggest pro: it cooks food perfectly! I definitely could tell that the food was cooked more evenly. No crispy edges with cold centers, just very even distribution of heat during the cooking process.- The controls were a newer style for me but I got used to them and liked what they were trying to do!CONS:- Its a BIG microwave. Itâs good because there is a lot of space in it but just be aware of itâs dimensions.- This does not mount over the stove which would be nice but thatâs ... MorePROS:- It really is a gorgeous appliance in your kitchen! I do not need this but thatâs how most products are going and Iâm surprised this didnât have it.BOTTOM LINE: This high end microwave is worth the investment given how great it cooks food. Itâs missing a few older and new features but overall you will adjust quickly.
I bought this Panasonic microwave to replace an older model because it is the same size as our old one and I did not need to buy a new frame and mounting kit. The control panel is very different from the old one, but we have adjusted to it fairly well. I do miss not having a number pad for setting the run time. The +/- symbols run very quickly and it is hard to get the exact time you need on the first try. I think Panasonic was trying to correct a problem that did not exist!Overall it is a very good unit and it works well
Right off the bat I'll admit that I'm deducting a star because of the touch pad... the only way I could see it as being usefull would be in a 3rd world country where they don't know how to use a microwave... everyone else in the world knows how to use a standard touch pad. Never in my life have I ever used a microwave touch pad and said to myself, "Gee, I sure wish someone would make this thing harder to use, and way more confusing..." And I've never met anyone who expressed that thought to me in conversation either...Second gripe... the "stainless cover" The front of the microwave looks great, and it matches my other stainless appliances... the rest of the microwave is a blueish chrome tinted stainless, that jumps out as being odd and weird, and doesn't match ... MoreRight off the bat I'll admit that I'm deducting a star because of the touch pad... the only way I could see it as being usefull would be in a 3rd world country where they don't know how to use a microwave... everyone else in the world knows how to use a standard touch pad. It would be nice if the cabinet was black like every other microwave I've ever owned... I mean black goes with everything... weird bluish chrome stainless doesn't go with anything...So now that I've gotten the bad out of the way, on to the good:1st. It's powerfull!!!2nd. It's powerfull!!!3rd, It's got a smart sensor that detects the steam level coming off of your food and it will self adjust the power. I have yet to have anything boil over which is awesome! However, some stuff takes longer to cook because the microwave throttles down the power once the steam level gets to high.4th: It's got a huge cooking area... I'm not 100% but it sure looks like I could fit a whole Turkey inside if I wanted to... It will obviously hold anything else I could ever dream of cooking.Minor annoyances:1st. The popcorn button... it only has 3 settings, and they aren't adjustable. Where did they get the settings from??? None of my favorite brands of popcorn are any of the settings in size... so I have to use it the old fashioned way and just hit the longest time program and then listen until the popping slows to the amount suggested on the popcorn bag and then stop the microwave manually... what's the point in having a popcorn setting that doesn't match any of the popular popcorn bag sizes, but also isn't user adjustable?2nd: 75% of all the "Genius" features will only work correctly if the user pre preps the food specifically to be used in the microwave... there is a bunch of instructions in the users manual that tells you how to do it, and none of it is how a normal person would normally refrigerate or freeze their food. The microwave smart features also don't work on store bought frozen meals either so when you microwave a TV dinner, just like the popcorn, you're back to following the instructions on the dinner instead of the microwave...All of the minor nagging issues wouldn't be so bad except they come right back around to my original gripe with this microwave, and thats the silly pictographic keypad that nobody asked for and which makes making adjustments slow and confusing... Also did I mention that if you press any of the smart functions to cook something and then want to add some time to it before it's finished because you can see it's not cooked all the way yet, the add 30 sec button doesn't work... it only works if you use the cumbersome plus or minus slider bar when you first start it up to cook... All of the pictograph nonsense makes me wish I just had an old fashioned timer dial from the 70's instead...
I'm a terrible cook so I pretty much eat food cooked in a microwave all the time. I previously had a smaller, low power microwave. It did the trick but wasn't the greatest due to it's small size and low power. It was a 0.7 cubic foot, 900 watt microwave. Needless to say, this one is significantly larger and more powerful. Just from this alone, it took a bit getting used to. Normally, with my older microwave, if I was cooking something that said to cook it for 3 minutes, I'd have to cook it for 5 in my older microwave. This habit is kind of hard to break. This Panasonic Prestige Plus is pretty much the last (hopefully) microwave I'll ever need. It's powerful and I can put much larger leftover bowls. Cooking time is much less now since this is a 1250 watt microwave. ... MoreI'm a terrible cook so I pretty much eat food cooked in a microwave all the time. This habit is kind of hard to break. This Panasonic Prestige Plus is pretty much the last (hopefully) microwave I'll ever need. It's powerful and I can put much larger leftover bowls. Cooking time is much less now since this is a 1250 watt microwave. This thing cooks quite evenly which my older microwave did not. Cooking soup or TV dinners, the food is evenly cooked however I noticed the bowl gets much hotter than before. I managed to defrost some steaks as well which went pretty smoothly. My older microwave couldn't even do this.To be honest, this thing has so many features that I haven't even been able to use them all. It's quite robust in that respect so this is more than just a microwave in my opinion. One of the drawbacks to this the touch panel. Most microwaves I've seen usually have some text on the buttons so you know what it does. This one does not. I had to read the instruction manual to figure out what the buttons do so, over time, I'll get the hang of it. Other thing to keep in mind is that this microwave is pretty big. It's almost twice the size of my older one so you'll need to have a large space to put this thing in. Fortunately, i have a stand alone cabinet which just happened to be big enough to place this thing on to.While this isn't for most peoples needs, I think it;s a great appliance to have. For those people, like me, that use microwaves religiously, having a top end microwave really helps out in the long run.
