Recently purchased from Best Buy the Samsung - 65” Class QN900B Neo QLED 8K Smart Tizen TV, connected to the then flagship Samsung 4K UBD-M9700 which is no slouch with 4K P.Q. & sound. Decided since upgrading the TV should probably upgrade the player too.The Panasonic DP-UB9000P1K was a perfect match for the 8K TV, picture quality shockingly improved, the next big surprise was the bitstream THX surround mated my THX Pre-Pro produced stunning 7.1 surround, that revealed enveloping realistic sounds I never heard before coming from the speakers, clearer center channel dialogue, surround effects, and subs produced greater depth and low-end space. The player also does a magnificent job on standard 1080p Blu-Ray discs. This player truly a flagship player, and IMO worth ... MoreRecently purchased from Best Buy the Samsung - 65” Class QN900B Neo QLED 8K Smart Tizen TV, connected to the then flagship Samsung 4K UBD-M9700 which is no slouch with 4K P.Q. & sound. This is a well built player with the best picture quality I’ve seen for BD and 4K disks. It really excels at HDR and Dolby vision, I don’t think there is another player that can produce as good a picture. I’ve had zero issues with it perfectly playing every disc I throw at it and has never locked up or glitched like all my other bran players have occasionally. My OLED Sony is just amazing with this player, and the improvement on even my 2015 85” Samsung was surprising, specially on HDR movies. With the older Samsung I disabled HDR on my Apple TV as it was always too dark and made the picture much worse then with it off, but with this player HDR looks amazing. The settings allow the scale to be set by tV type and it makes all the difference. Be very wary of purchasing this item, as the warranty is very brief, and the quality of parts is shoddy. Be prepared to spend big $$$$$ to get it repaired.I ordered this item in October of 2022. I was more or less quite pleased with it, and felt that while it was remarkably expensive, the quality was quite good for audio and visuals on a 77 inch OLED TV with a high end soundsystem. However, after about 5 and a half months, the disc tray stopped ejecting discs. Given that this is the most essential function of any disc player, I was really disappointed in the quality of parts. For a top of the line blu ray player, one can fairly expect the basic functions to work. Not the case here. The fact is, manufacturers know how long their products hold up for, and they ... MoreBe very wary of purchasing this item, as the warranty is very brief, and the quality of parts is shoddy. There is a 3 month labor warranty, and 6 month parts warranty. That's laughable for a product of this price. But it goes to show the quality you'll get for the price.Fortunately, I was within the parts warranty by a matter of days. I had to ship the blu ray player back to Panasonic at a cost of $95 dollars with the proper insurance through UPS. They did turn it around quickly, in about a week after they received it. And boy am I glad I was within the parts warranty...because the cost of the two parts that needed replacing? $407 for a new "BD Drive" and a new "PC Board, Digital."The cost for labor to repair this was $90. Plus the shipping, it cost me $185 to repair this after less than 6 months of use. I can't in good conscience recommend this disc player given the experience, and the brief warranty. When working, it does a good job. But is it reliable? No. And is it worth the price? Definitely not. There is a reason Panasonic was once a major player in the North American electronics market, but no longer. Stay away if you value quality, reliability, and value.

Where to start? First don't believe the five star rating. I have read other reviews calling this a piece of crap - they are being kind. I own two OPO 203's and one Sony UBP 1100ES. I bought the 900 as a backup when my OPPO started having trouble.First it freezes when it feels like it, Secondly it can't change chapters to save it's life. Even worse is the fast forward. You need to push the button three times for it to respond. It's not quick and responsive. You can hear it struggle it's that bad. My Sony UBP 1100ES flies from one chapter to the next cleanly as an example. It also has a box in the bottom left hand corner telling you which chapter you are at. The 900 has a two step nonsense on the poorly designed remote. Now for the remote, another piece of crap. ... MoreWhere to start? First don't believe the five star rating. First the tray button is directly below the on/pff button. it is small and just barely is higher than the face of the remote. The tray is grindy when it moves out and in. Poor, Poor quality. The only good thing I can say is it is heavy. Buy the Sony UBP-1100ES. It costs $600 and blows this dog by miles.
I had this player only for one month. I chose it because I needed one with analog out for sound ,4 channels I use preamps and power amps. My oppo 203 has problems with some 4K discs. I like the fact that I can lower the sound volume and still hear the dialogs, oppo lacks this feature. Set up is straightforward although you have to read what you are doing and test what you like. Better colors , plays my cds reasonable well, using RCA outlets no difference compared to Oppo 203 however it doesn’t play my sacds . Panasonic stated that wasn’t enough room for playing sacds. If they would have increased the height this player would not fit between my tv set and my stand. This would be something that I wouldn’t like. I might be subjective because Oppo and Pioneer are out of this business, universal players with analog out channels Panasonic was my only option. It matches my expectations.
As a 4k UHD player, this is a spectacular machine. Excellent build quality, and it has SO many features to make sure you're seeing the best 4k picture possible. Lobe that it has both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ (if any studio actually starts using it).Blu-ray playback is good, and DVD works fine, but you can get better picture quality from older players. The 9000 introduces some picture "enhancement" that sometimes makes non-UHD content look less than perfect. Minor complaint is that there's no zoom feature for really old non-anamorphic DVDs, so you can't scale them up to full your screen. But seriously, at this point, almost nobody has many of those in their collections.Really happy with the player so far. It feels way more sturdy than Panasonic's next step down ... MoreAs a 4k UHD player, this is a spectacular machine. I've always been a fan of Panasonic since I shopped all over for my first VCR (looking for one that was actually made in Japan) and spent $400! It simply had the best picture quality, as does this 4K player. Operation is smooth and silky and the build quality is top-notch. The HDR optimization features are a must if you have a projector or OLED. It will preserve the details of bright lights and suns (stop them from blowing out) on HDR 10 titles without altering the brightness of the entire image like displays do. You can customize it for the type of display you have. Combined with my LG OLED's dynamic tone mapping, these titles look almost as good as Dolby Vision grades. Panasonic has always had top-notch scaling, so it's great for upscaling your Blu-rays and DVDs too.P.S. You might want to price match with a huge online store while you can!
Heard great things about this player and it has indeed lived up to everything. It has a huge amount of options which lets you really fine-tune things for your particular setup. In my case, I'm using a mini LED 4K TV, so enabled the HDR optimizer to normalize output to 1000 nits. Also set up the unit to handle the chroma processing as it seems to be better than the TV in that department. The physical build of the unit is outstanding. Tray is quite robust and moves very smoothly.Excellent that the remote has a backlight. Also really like the info display to show you exactly what type of signal the player is outputting. I'm using a single HDMI output which is working very well.I was having lip sync issues, and while this player does allow you to adjust a delay, I have since found that using a delay in my AV receiver leads to a better result. If I couldn't solve the lip sync issue this way, I was then going to look using the two separate HDMI outputs. Glad the single HDMI is working well, but do like having the extra flexibility of different ways to connect this player.Highly recommended; worth every penny!

Bombay's pricing was less than any other retailer that I researched. Ordering and shipping were excellent -- ordering was easy and straight forward and shipping was swift and well doubled boxed to protect this unit. Anyone ordering must understand that this unit is a modified unit; meaning the box is opened, the unit is modified to be region free and then resealed and ready for sale. No problem there, the resealed box contains a sticker affixed that states is "region free" status (other than that, there are no original packaging advertisement that this is a region free unit. There is also documentation placed inside the box with detailed instructions on how to use the region free aspects for each region outside of Region 1 (USA). Out of the box picture quality is amazing with the standard blu-ray that I used for testing. Access to apps such as Netflix and picture and audio quality were excellent. I did however run into an issue with using an 2TB external hard drive in both usb connections (one front and one rear) where the video could be seen but the unit would not recognize the audio format, rendering no sound. I could find no resolution online to this issue and it appears that there are others with this issue. There are lesser blu-ray players that work well to large format hard drives and at this price point, this unit should work as well. Welcome to hear of any solutions to this issue as otherwise, the unit is well built, better DAC and video software, including THX certification, than those lesser units mentioned earlier. If and until I can resolve the issue with large capacity hard drive playback, I'll have to continue redundancy with my lesser blu-ray that can perform the playback. There is also a lack of information in the product manual (Panasonic responsibility) online to research and resolve issues with this unit.
After my Panasonic UB820 (bought elsewhere) started to kick the bucket, I was in the market for a new player. I had considered a myriad of solutions, going Sony, Reavon, even file players like Zapitti and Zidoo. Giving Panny a second chance was far from my considerations on account of the buggy experience I had but going on reddit, AVforums - you'll quickly find that despite how I felt, the UB820 was simply king and if you had the money, the UB9000 was the crown jewel. After some careful consideration - I knew if I was going to go Panny again I want to do it where I'm protected. Asking around based on my problems I had with the UB820, Richer Sounds was the only retailer I could find with the best warranty and genuine expression of care for their customers. Reaching out to Lichfield over the phone, they put my mind at ease that should my player develop any faults abnormal to a stock unit they'd be willing to help me out - I've never felt a warranty was worth its weight but these guys changed that.I've had the player almost 2 weeks now and its absolutely brill, screams a premium. I've had probably 20-30hrs of Game of Thrones 4k through it, OG Avatar 4k amongst a handful of other movies and its not skipped a beat, no ghosting, whisper quiet, I can even pause and walk away briefly without it straight up glitching, requiring a restart to fix when I hit resume - something my UB820 simply couldn't do. The quality of life improvement (at least for this soul) has been astounding and I can't help but thoroughly appreciate the simpler things that allow me to look forward to and enjoy my media again! My PS5 was "fine" as a momentary replacement in terms of picture quality but audio quality, its just no contest. I put Frozen 2 through it on "In to the Unknown" scene and on the PS5 it felt like there was a ceiling on the expression and even backing vocals were underwhelming when repeating Elsa's calls. Not to mention I had to drive my sound system harder for a better audio level. UB9000 comes in, I'm having to turn it down and I'm having a blast listening to Elsa sing her heart out! I'm not sure if this was a worthy benchmark but I really do enjoy Disney numbers and Frozen being amongst them, the UB9000 had that "impact" the PS5 simply couldn't replicate. Before I wrap up, despite my grievances, I'm not saying that the UB820 is a bad unit. No. Far from it. I very much could've had a bad egg from a batch when I bought it as when it worked, I had a phenomenal time. Just an experience that could've been mitigated as I do feel Richer Sounds would've taken care of this had I bought from them.Oh another point in their favor, I submitted a price beat a week later as I'd found it cheaper and they honored it. Amazing!Simply put, the UB9000 is the best 4k player you can buy. Its built like a tank, whisper quiet and if you have an impressive sound solution, the unit will flex its muscles. If you can afford it, do it, otherwise get the UB820 and take the 6 year gurantee just to be sure :)Cheers guys!
