Camera has lots of pros and cons

Camera size is nice and small but lens are a big large and heavy. The LUTs are cool to play with but the app only has jpegs available now. If you shoot with any custom LUTs. The app will only place another LUT over the jpg with the chosen LUT already on it. RAWs are not supported in app yet. JPEGs that you see on the back of the camera does not look close to how they look once transferred onto the phone. AFC is also not great in the dark, it will most likely hunt as soon as it gets dark. I also own a Nikon ZF and autofocus on that is much better and high ISO beats this by a long shot. Overall, the camera is not bad but I would definitely rent before buying.

I already owned a S5 and wanted something that was more inconspicuous for travel and family/friend events. By having fewer buttons, no EVF, smaller size, and many color options, it is perfect for this use case. However if they gave me an option to extend record limits to when temperatures are actually high kindof like how Sony does it, that would make it 5 stars for me. It is annoying to keep restarting the video (which incurs a small interruption in flow). I would rather have the option to choose one interruption than many smaller ones.

Let me preface this review by stating the fact that I am not a professional photographer, but I am a good photographer. I am not someone who can go on a deep dive of the specs of the camera, but I can speak to the quality of picture it takes, and it is exceptional.I have a Sony A IV that I have used for the past year and love. But I was looking for something smaller that I could do street photography with and could take on my backpacking trips. I had seen the Fuji X100V and loved the pictures it was outputting, but those are near impossible to get. I loved idea about posting a pic straight from camera instead of having to edit the picture in Lightroom. I am all about cutting down the process. I got the 26mm lens with it (part of the promotion) and it makes it the perfect size camera to cary around in my sling pack.My only complaint, and I already knew this, was it didn't have a viewfinder, but honestly I am totally fine with that cause the other features are incredible. I watched hours of reviews on YouTube, and many of the complaints I heard about it, I didn't see. I think influencers have a skewed view because they are trying to get clicks. So after a while it became white noise to me and I stopped looking at reviews. The camera is amazing, takes phenomenal photos, and the fact that the Lumix app to edit the pictures is hands down the best app any camera manufacture can offer, this camera is a must have.

For years I've been hoping for a full frame reflex ILC whose name doesn't start with L so when the S9 was announced I preordered. Light enough and small enough to fit into a small bag it pretty much goes everywhere with me. I haven't got into the luts yet and I can't comment on video but for photos I'm more than pleased with it. The raw file is very malleable in Lightroom and although it will give excellent results right out of the camera there's a lot more dynamic range in the file to be exposed. It's been said that the LCD is hard to see in bright sunlight, which is partially true, it's hard to see enough detail for exposure compensation, etc. but. the screen is usable for competition even in bright midday light. [Rewarded Review] Greater than the sum of its spec sheet

I already own Lumix S1 with the S 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm f1.8 primes, 20-60mm kit lens (got it for like $100 from someone locally,) and the 24-105 f4 zoom. I love my S1, its size and ergonomics work great for me, but I won't lie it's heavy and doesn't fit in most of my daily bags. I sat wondering for a while about the S9, whether I'd like it or not given a lot of its odd features that people complain about in comment sections. Well, finally jumped for it, figuring it'd help me get a lot more value out of my L-Mount lenses, and after receiving it, I can definitely say I'm keeping it.Turns out I might be the perfect target demographic for this kind of camera -- almost all of its 'problems' are things that don't affect me, being an enthusiast 'pro-sumer' hobbyist with ... MoreI already own Lumix S1 with the S 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm f1.8 primes, 20-60mm kit lens (got it for like $100 from someone locally,) and the 24-105 f4 zoom. Well, finally jumped for it, figuring it'd help me get a lot more value out of my L-Mount lenses, and after receiving it, I can definitely say I'm keeping it.Turns out I might be the perfect target demographic for this kind of camera -- almost all of its 'problems' are things that don't affect me, being an enthusiast 'pro-sumer' hobbyist with phogoraphy. First, I like gadgets and fun small things, so the S9 definitely ticks that box. Second, I shoot on silent electronic shutter modes on my other cameras most of the time, so I already know using an E-Shutter just about never affects anything I shoot (lots of street shooting, nature and architecture,) I never do long exposure photography either so no issues there. Thirdly, I never use flashes or anything so I don't need a hot shoe. At least a dummy shoe is there just in case I feel like mounting a small mic at least. Lastly, I like to take video clips, but I'm not filming nonstop for anything, so the recording limits on the S9 don't affect me -- but I am eating a buffet with all these high quality video modes it has. So taking the S9 out on walks/to work etc as a daily carry, it's kind of a dream camera to be honest -- it fits easily into my smallest shoulder bags and is super high performance -- across AF, IBIS, operation speed, battery life, and critical image quality (I am GAWKING at some of the photos this thing takes combined with the excellent inexpensive Lumix S glass.)So if you're like me, it's something you have to try to understand how good it actually is. It's size means there are going to be some compromises to what it can and cant do. I still have my S1, which can do all the things the S9 can't, with an EVF, for those times I want a serious tool. But since I don't want to carry the S1 around with me every day, the S9 more than covers the majority of my daily point-and-shoot wants out of a camera. Some additional thoughts:- I have a small collection of Canon FD lenses for my Canon AE-1P, and they adapt wonderfully to the S9. The S9 can save manual lens information with names and focal lengths so they show up in EXIF data (and properly work with IBIS.) Along with the S9's very high resolution screen and using LUTs, it makes using this old glass a lot of fun.- I find the camera fine as-is, but I have the SmallRig baseplate with grip coming just to make it that much easier to grab out of my bag and hold one-handed. I get why Panasonic kept the front flat (for cages and other things to easily fit over/around it) but I almost wish a grip accessory was included.- The screen is very, very good, but sometiiiimes I do wish there was an EVF (more out of habit of using one with all my other cameras.) It would have been cool if the cold shoe still had accessory pins for an optional EVF accessory.- I'd love to see Panasonic flesh out a midrange selection of lenses -- they have the smaller 18-40mm kit zoom coming, but I'd like to see a bunch of (say) f2.5 primes that are much smaller to fit this kind of camera. For now, at least the f1.8 primes, while not small, also aren't that huge either, and their very light weight construction balances well enough on the S9. The 24-105mm is a bit comical like pulling out a pocket-sized cannon, it works but is probably a combo I'm almost never going to use -- reserving that lens almost exclusively for my S1.Anyway, I might update this review in the future with further thoughts, but for now all I can say is don't knock it till you try it, cuz you might be surprised how much better something like this can work for you compared to what people complain about in comment sections of videos and reviews. There's a reason why a lot of reviewers actually talk positively about the S9 (by going out and actually using it for its intended purpose) while everyone else seemingly wants to just hate on it without ever having seen one in person.

[Rewarded Review] Making shooting full frame fun and light again
9 July 2024

I used to have a blast carrying my GX85 around years ago - once I moved to full frame and picked up my Lumix S1H I stopped carrying my camera everywhere because of the size and weight. With the S9's size and form factor I feel like a kid again taking it everywhere and getting great photos and videos with it.It takes some getting used to and adjusting to not having a viewfinder but to be honest it's not limiting. Especially since I'm using it for everyday travel and living. After a few hours of using the camera it feels right at home around my neck. If I'm doing something more intentional or professional my S1H is my go too. But for every day life any day I'm really satisfied and always excited to carry my S9.

I was looking for something pretty unique with this. I wanted a small every day carry camera that I could put my Leica M mount lenses and I wanted a higher quality video camera. And wow.. did this camera deliver! I've had it for a few months and I've had so much fun with the Realtime LUT feature I haven't pulled a single photo into Lightroom yet!! So much fun editing in the camera!! Then transferring straight to my phone. This sped up my process dramatically for everyday photos! The video did not disappoint! Filmed a full wedding with it. VLOG looks great. Sensor is so clean across the image. The dynamic range really surprised me with how good the image looks in the midtones and shadows. They packed a lot of professional features into this tiny camera.Thought ... MoreI was looking for something pretty unique with this. They packed a lot of professional features into this tiny camera.Thought this would be a secondary, backup camera but it's become my go to for everything lately.

Love this camera from Panasonic. The real time LUTS are amazing and i don’t have to use Lightroom anymore. The full frame sensor gives amazing depth. I also got the LUMIX S 1.8 primes and they are perfect with this camera. It’s so lightweight. I’m using it for photos and videos and its so easy to share to social media. I wasn’t interested in this S9 initially but decided to give it a go. I don’t regret getting it at all.

A camera that can I can take anywhereI use my phone to take photos and videos but always dreamed to take high quality photos and videos then I saw S9 review and very impressed I can do what I needed mainly image stabilization best in the market. It is so compact and light but has a full frame sensor. The LUMIX Lab app lets me transfer photos to my phone quickly so I can share them online. Absolutely brilliant, expecting more small lenses with smaller aperture.

[Rewarded Review] simple, easy to use and a great package deal

As this is my first 'proper' camera (going from old digi cam to smartphone) and now this, there is all the functions I as a beginner needs. With interchangeable lens it has allowed me to learn and discover other styles of shooting and what type of photography i want to lean into. While i never used an evf so i dont know what i'm missing, it would have been even better if there was one to use. otherwise, no issues with this camera and with the range of lens available i will be holding onto this for a long time and exploring new lens
