I'd been shooting docs and performance for ten years with a Panasonic AC160. It was great in its day and served me well until I realized it was time to upgrade. I selected this camera because of its perceived similarities and hoped-for flat learning curve. Boy, was I wrong . . . but in all the right ways. This camera is awesome and has features not described elsewhere including waveforms, macro video and still capture. I spent three hours yesterday exploring settings and buttons and how to activate features on-the-fly for run-and-gun work. I'm recording two long events next week and expect to have some amazing footage to edit in FinalCutPro when I get back before burning DVDs for the performers. I'm expecting the best footage capture ever.

This camera has been perfect for everything I need. I am a content creator shooting videos, run and gun style. I love my FX3 but where it lacks is a lens option that will give me both ends of the zoom range... In a small affordable package.

The optics are very good, the image quality is great and the best thing is that I can connect the cameras via NDI through the LAN port. I use a translator because I don't speak English

The V-Log files coming out of this camera are fantastic making them easy to grade. Color is great, the dynamic range is good - simply fun to work with. The camera balances nicely, has all the controls correct and has several features beyond the description. And therein lies one of its problems. I'll get back to that.I did extensive testing with many different configurations. At one point I had a problem. I honestly don't know if it was one of my settings or what, but the files had audio only - no video (two different PC's). I went through everything I could think of and couldn't fix it. The manual is over 300 pages and I read it all, and then 'searched' the manual for a solution. Nothing! After some time on the phone, they admitted that it was a new camera and they don't have a lot of information. They escalated my case up to a higher level, but I never heard back from them.While searching for a solution I read a lot and watched the few YouTube videos available. I learned of features undocumented in the manual but also learned of a few other quirks. People are sharing information, but it's true, it's a new camera and even Panasonic doesn't have a lot of info. Some stuff would seem simple, but isn't. Panasonic has an app to control the camera, but I never got it to work. Some things work in auto, others in manual. The specs on audio are pretty good, but using a Sennheiser MKE 600 I had to turn the volume almost all the way up. There were other quirks too.In the end, I wound up sending it back. I can't rely on a camera that goes to audio-only and nobody knows why. I truly wanted to keep this camera. It's possible that a firmware update, a better manual, and a more knowledgeable support staff would remedy all the problems. If that happens, this will be the camcorder to own. I loved it.
The HC-X1 and UX180 were good cameras but needed improvements. I'll try to do a crude comparison breakdown between the new HC-X2 vs the old HC-X1 / UX180 to help see what is improved and what is worse in the HC-X2......................................-------CONS--------No DCI 4K anymore.-No more varibel rocker fast zoom unless you assign it to a user button.-No more Leica lens.-Lens is .5mm less wide (24.5mm vs 24mm).-No more 1080 30P in AVCHD.-Some .mp4 record options are gone.-Gain button function semed more useful before.-shorter warranty than before------IMPROVEMENTS-----+Color is better.+Live streaming.+LCD is much much better now - higher res and more accurate! So it may be possible to get the old and new cams to match but it will take some work.*They seem to match better outdoors than indoors.*X2 no longer uses previous traditional remote control - now uses Sony style LANC 2.5mm so your old Panasonic wired remotes will not work.*The body is almost identical which is good because it's basically the perfect size, build quality and layout - a few buttons have traded names/position.*The image quality seems to be a bit sharper but low light about the same. Color looks more natural than before.*They basically listened and good a good camera and made it better (in most ways). *However the fast zoom and facetracking limits are real annoyances that need to be changed in firmware updates for sure. *DCI 4K would be nice again but I never used it in the old cams since it was only 24P. *The best improvement arguably is the LCD is now usable outdoors and much easier to judge focus. *Glad to see it can still do Dual Codec Record, but still seems limited to 30P as before, at least in h.264--------CLOSING THOUGHT--------The UX180 was basically a 3.5 or 4 /5 before. The X2 is about a 4.5/5. Very close to being the perfect camcorder. Thank you Panasonic for updating these cams! Hope this rough review helps. I was having trouble finding answers to some aspects
