I am only beginning to learn what I can do with this camera. It is full of features and it does have a bit of a learning curve. I was a little hesitant because of the smaller sensor. However, living on the coast I do like to take zoom shots of wildlife and anything with a 1 sensor and decent zoom would have been much more expensive. There were other camers with longer zooms including the Lumix FZ80 or Canon SX70 but I thought the constant aperture of this lens was a better tradeoff that would make the upper zoom range actually useful. As my first digital camera to venture into nature and travel photography, I could not be more happy with my purchase. It's super easy to learn, has many great features, and I love how that even though it's small compared to other cameras, it packs a HUGE punch. The greatest thing about it is that I don't have to spend money buying new lenses and lugging them around with me everywhere. The lens and zoom on this camera are incredible. Functions like wifi transfer are also super useful. I can see myself sticking with this camera for many years to come.

I own three FZ series and several Olympus M43 cameras and the FZ300 is my favorite by far.The diopter adjustment slips out of focus on my FZ80, the max aperture drops 2 f-stops when zooming, increasing ISO and grain, LCD screen does not zoom or swivel and there is noticeable chromatic aberration. I don't even like the ELV with no manual switching, and a grainy image that doesn't fill viewfinder.I completely stopped using the FZ80 after buying the FZ300! I took the FZ300 to Costa Rica and had great results even in the rain and low light conditions. I never know what unexpected photo opportunities might arise, and this camera never fails to capture the moment.I'm over 80 years old and have no problem with camera's complexity which gives me the versatility I demand.

The FZ300 does a pretty good job once you learn its menus and eccentricities, which required that I research settings on the web, and I am thankful for the posts. Besides a 600mm optical zoom with 2.8 aperture throughout, the camera offers wide range of options, including excellent stabilization, macro zoom, exposure adjustment, zebra, peaking, and on-camera setting controls, to name my favorites. I am usually toting a full size SLR with a heavy 150-600 ( my passion is photographing bears ) I was intrigued with this bridge camera concept and was thinking that one of these type cameras could have a place while hiking etc so i found this lumix (new) at a fair price so i purchased it. Been playing with it for about 3 weeks now trying to decypher its unusual/ complex and very non intuitive menu structure. No matter what ISO, white balance, aperture or shutter speed i select ( either in manual or one of the other settings on the control dial ) I have yet to get an image that doesnt have an awful heavy blue or green tint to it AND every single image is crazy high contrast ! My trusty (but more than 10 year old) Sony SLT-A55V appeared to be on it's last legs, so I went looking for a replacement. At first I shied away from non-interchangeable lens cameras, but the 25mm to 600mm zoom on the Lumix DMC-FZ300 convinced me. And, of course, the excellent price didn't hurt.I am still learning about this camera, but already I am quite pleased. It is smaller, lighter and more capable than the old Sony. Surprisingly, the memory card provided will hold 10,000 photos at the resolution I normally shoot at. I still bought 2 more.This is an EXCELLENT camera for the non-professional but serious photographer.

I knew I would have to learn many of the features but the manual seems really dated in that some instructions don't appear to match the camera in hand. The Panasonic Software allowed me to see the photos but not download them as the button used to accept and download wasn't on the screen. Called Panasonic and it seemed that there wasn't much help with the software to be had there although the folks were nice and suggested other ways I could manipulate my photos other than using the (provided) Panasonic software. I hoped this camera viewfinder would make focus easy but it hasn't for me. Generally I'd say this is poorly supported by the Panasonic manual and software if, like me, you are not strong on technical stuff. I have no doubt of the quality others have attested to in other reviews.

This 12mp camera even with it's Leica lens deliver poor results and setting the menu quickly to capture the moment leaves you frustrated and leads to missing the shot. Only running in fully auto mode is relevant to quickly capturing shots, but even in low iso mode the photos are shockingly grainy, hazy, soft, have erratic focus, and are of very poor quality. The auto focus constantly despite all attempts to correct it leaves the desirable areas of your photo constantly out of focus, the focusing system is a total nightmare. Best to leave it in full view in a insured car and hope someone steals it.

I try and treat shooting with these cameras like shooting with slide film - pay particular attention to exposure and basic technique, and good results can be obtained. Hope this helps.
