The Panasonic GH5S is an awesome pro camera. No video recording limit means no missed moments trying to restart the recording, advanced video capabilities unmatched by the other camera companies, two card slots, true weather sealing, electronic viewfinder, fast accurate AF...the more time you spend with it the more you discover what it can do.I'm going to sell my Sony a77 mark 2. It is 24MP APS-C and has WORSE image quality than my new 10.3MP GH5S in indoor medium to low(ambient) light!!The Panasonic is micro four thirds, and the body and lenses are correspondingly smaller and lighter than FF bodies and lenses-the weight is roughly 2/3 that of FF. For lenses the difference is much more-a MF3 lens can weigh less than half of a FF lens. I fit three MF3 cameras with lenses attached in a medium size backpack camera compartment. Small and light will always be a significant advantage, and many photographers will continue to realize this. If you want more MP, the GH5 has 20, but the GH5S has amazing low light performance.I am unable to register my camera though, after trying on different devices and getting help from a computer techy friend. Panasonic customer support has not helped. Still I cannot take a rating star away because the GH5S is excellent. Five stars.

This camera is a huge upgrade from shooting video on my Canon 5D mark iii. Dual Sd card slots for relay recording is great--using metabones adapter with Canon glass and works great. Easy customizable menu, solid 4K image and workflow. Camera feels good in my hands, not small--easy transition from the mark iii.

Fantastic camera.

Great camera. Bought for 4K video work and as a step up from my GH4. I shoot solo documentary style and short films. The GH5S has been a solid & reliable workhorse with a fantastic image. It's a beast for time lapse work and makes easy work of even complex shot sets. It is also surprisingly good for stills work. The sensor has a great dynamic range and is great for both colour and monochrome photography.

GH5s Panasonic Bragging Review!
15 September 2020

I have found a camera that brings my video quality to the next level. The GH5s produces incredible image quality especially with the tones in the shadows and low lighting. Great dynamic range and very similar to the GH4. Works well on the DJI Ronin SC using a 12 - 45mm 2.8f and the 7 - 14mm 2.8f Panasonic Lens.

GH5s Very Nice
11 April 2018

The GH5s is a well built and very customizable camera. The video images I have shot in 10 bit I frame are amazing and have an unbelievable amount of latitude. The low light shooting is exceptional good. As a m43 camera it will never have the shallow depth of field of a full frame camera, so don't expect it. You can make it look pretty good though. Also be aware that there is NO in body stabilization so expect to shoot with support, i.e. tripod, gimbal etc. Handheld is not going to happen easily, you will see the micro-shake from unsteady hands (maybe you are a surgeon with steadier hands than mine though.)All in all with the wide dynamic range and low light capabilities this camera is a real monster! Great experience

Needed to rent an inexpensive camera that performed well in low light, as well as a fast lens. Lensrentals had the most options and best deal. All around good experience.

In love with this camera!
21 January 2019

I previously owned the GH4 and absolutely loved it...all except for one thing...the noise issue in low light. The GH5s is the fix for that! I definitely love everything about this camera. The dual card slots, the 10 bit recording, the 240fps, V-log, oh, and, the lack of noise!

Misleading
10 June 2018

I am very versatile shooter. I make music videos, shortfilms, events and constantly learning VFX stuff so I use this camera as my all around weapon. My previous camera was GH4 and helped me to exponentially grow myself into the business, I bought GH5s like 40 days ago and have shot a music video and an event with it... I find the variable frame rate is very frustrating cause of the aliasing it has. Makes the whole picture ugly and the detail dance :/

VFR / Noise / Horizontal
11 May 2018

Would have been 5 star if vfr worked correctly! Can’t even go past 60fps as really bad noise appears no matter the exposure/iso settings! There are many of us who are experiencing the same problem! Horizontal noise / not clean at all when shooting vfr. (Above 60fps especially noticable. Greenish tint/horizontal lines etc.)There is also another issue: when changing iso, nothing happens... You have to hit record for the iso to change. (Many are experiencing this as well)Gh5s Facebook groups are all talking about these issues. Will a firmware update fix them?

perfect video camera for my needs
6 March 2018

I love this camera for video. I shoot still photos and video full time and I previously owned Panasonic GH4's and GH5.'s I enjoyed those cameras for video except they were not good in low light. Panasonic addressed this with the GH5S. I use the GH5S primarily for wedding and event videos and short promo videos, I do not use this camera for still photos. I do not think the GH5 produces the best stills This camera is perfect for me I am almost always filming on stabilizer monopod, or tripod so the trade off to receive low light by giving up stabilization is no problem.Compared to Sony E cameras (which I also own) I find the GH5S controls, touch screen, and no 30 minute limit makes this camera much simpler to use. Proving that they can push the GH-series even farther into the video realm, the Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5S is a mirrorless Micro Four Thirds camera optimized for movie recording and low-light performance. Revolving around a 10.28MP Digital Live MOS sensor, DCI and UHD 4K video recording is possible at up to 60p and the large individual pixel size also affords impressive low-light performance to an extended ISO 204800, along with Dual Native ISO technology at ISO 400 and ISO 2500. Coupled with an updated Venus Engine, the sensor and processor combination also enables faster readout speeds along with 1.3x less rolling shutter distortion compared to previous GH-series cameras. Internal DCI 4K30p recording is available with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling and a full-size HDMI A connector can be used to simultaneously output to an optional external monitor or recorder. The sensor's extended sensitivity range has also been used to promote working with V-Log L and Hybrid Log Gamma HDR modes for effectively increasing your dynamic range and affording more flexibility when color grading during post-production.
