If you are looking to move up to a DSLR-like camera from your cell phone, this may be your camera, particularly with this package (extra battery, filter pack and bag are great). In general, the camera is a great price, many many features (some I've never used at all), good beginner birding camera.I'm a novice when it comes to camera equipment/photography so my review will be limited by that. First camera that's not a cell phone. The zoom is great. Pretty light, although again first camera so not sure how it compares to others. Still learning, some pics do come out soft in tough conditions, but for the price it's what I expected. settings make a huge difference between pics, but accessories are limited. The Panasonic app isn't great, it works when it wants to on iOS or android. (Have both tried both same result). But I find myself not needing the app anyways.

I'm generally happiest with sharpness below about 300-600 mm (35 mm equiv.); 1200 mm is distinctly soft.That said, making knowledgeable choices for settings allows you to get the results you want. Two cases:- Bumblebee on crab apple: I set the ISO at 3200 to have a chance of stopping a working bee on a day with light gusty breezes. This was a good enough shot for me to ID the bee (tri-colored bumblebee, Bombus ternaris). The price of the high ISO is of course the significant noise visible in a pixel peep.- Oak branch tip: Lower ISO (200) to get minimal noise, longish focal length to isolate the subject. About the image I was trying to get.All in all, a good camera to grow with, and pick up some satisfying images along the way. And it's great to take along for a walk in the woods when I haven't the faintest idea what I might want to shoot.

I'll be better at this review in a couple months, once I learn all of the various modes that the camera can operate in. So far I've taken fine pictures of scenery and people... that's easy.What I bought it for was to take wildlife pictures, and that's a few orders of magnitude harder. I'll need to get used to shutter speed adjustment, 30 fps pulse photography, and afterfocusing. None of these are easy when you're trying to photograph a 10 cm long bird that's flitting in and out of the shade. But I've done enough photos by now to know that great shots are possible. A superb bird's tail in perfect focus... that's as good as I've achieved so far. Mind you, I've only used the camera three times...

But it's really very good, quiet operation (I turn of beeps and shutter sounds) and the microprocessor has ok speed for this price point. Controls and touch screen work great. My only two nit pics are -1. The Viewfinder has a focus adjustment wheel that works well, but is slightly too exposed to being bumped and change focus. To be fair, this rarely happens unless I use the MegaGear case I bought with the camera. Opening and closing the upper case tends to drag just a bit on this wheel so it's not really the cameras fault except if the wheel had molded ridge lines on each side of the wheel, that would negate errant movement of the wheel.2. Before purchasing any product, I pride myself in doing a fair level of research. That was no different with this camera. I was pleased that it used SD cards which are easy to put in and take out. And the camera has Wi-Fi connectability for picture and video file transfers. Great! But I assumed it would have a physical USB port too. It does not. This is never a problem when I transfer pics and videos with my home computers; wi-fi works great and if your xferring JPG format, the transfer is fairly fast. But when I go to the office, there is no way, no how the camera's Wi-fi gets recognized by the office Gateway/Router. And let it's easy as pie using the same protocol to connect an iPhone and iPad or even an Android based device. This camera recognizes the Gateway's Wi-Fi by name and I get fairly well down the configuration path but ultimately it chokes and will not link up. Our IT guy is no help and I don't have Admistrative access to the Gateway. For now I can't tell you that it is the camera's Wi-Fi or the Gateway. I suspect its the Gateway but meantime, I have to open the bottom door of the camera, pop out the SD card and then use a USB to SD card adapter to load pictures into an office desktop computer to get my work done. While the problem may very well be human error instead of camera or Gateway issue, I really think the camera should have included a USB port to make a fast & simple cable connection anywhere we go with the camera.Aside from not having the physical USB port connectivity, I really do like this camera. Solid feel and has been on many treks/hikes/use and used at the office every week, close up pics of electronic circuitry work I do on a regular basis. Love it.

This allows you to get some very sharp distance pictures without the need for digital zoom (which is still available), if you don't need the largest 18 megapixel size. The FZ80 also allows 4K image capture from 4K video, which can save the trouble of needing extra software to extract images from video files.I made the purchase, and after about 6 weeks of use, I'm very happy with the choice. The FZ80 has been able to take all the pictures I could with the Canon SX40, and with the extra optical zoom, I've been very happy with the longer distance pictures, particularly a recent full-moon shot at 84x optical that had significantly more detail than the SX40 would provide at 35x optical with 2.5x digital (88x total). The FZ80 offers full connectivity with a smartphone, although Panasonic apparently dropped support for their camera-to-PC software... no problem there, as I have multiple card readers. The FZ80 also permits in-camera charging via USB, but I also got an external charger and extra batteries to make sure I don't miss any opportunities.If you're in the market for a high-zoom bridge camera, definitely give the FZ80 a look and compare the specs to the others in its class. It has definitely exceeded my expectations so far.
