The GX7 has advantages over the GX1 previously used with the optional electronic viewfinder. The larger grip improves handling - for my hands at least! and the built in viewfinder is more convenient than having to fit the removable finder on the GX1 each time the camera was taken out of the bag. Being tall and using a relatively lightweight tripod I prefer a tiltable viewfinder to bending down and either peering through a horizontal viewfinder or viewing the rear screen - I used an angle finder in the past with DSLR's. The rear screen on the GX7 tilts which makes it far more user friendly than the fixed screen on the GX1 and the repositioned battery hatch means that batteries can be changed without removing the tripod quick release plate. Overall the GX7 feels a more substantial than the GX1 which is a tad on the small size for my hands. I am that pleased with it that I have 2x GX7 which are used in tandem with different lenses fitted.

If I could give 4.5 I would but I'll rate this 5 as in my opinion this is a bit closer to 5 than 4.First the cons: a bit large, coming from the GF3 felt this difference, one is pocketable, the GX7 only for larger pockets, considering the idea of M4/3 this should be a target everytime. This camera eventually locks on me or take much longer than average time to perform usual operations like reviewing images. Not sure if is something specific about my camera or the GX7 in general, need to do some research...Due to the customization allowed for this camera (a positive for me) is hard to become familiarized with it. Just a matter of practice I know but coming from other friendlier cameras this can be relevant for some.Another one I can think of is the lack of 2nd ... For those like me who uses the built-in as fill a lot this can be relevant.Last but not least I don't agree with manufacturer decision of intentionally crippling their cameras so it doesn't compete with higher-end models. The GX7 could offer more but it doesn't. I won't get into the details as there are plenty online out there - search for the hacks available for many Lumix models. But the pros are so many! It's my first Wi-fi enabled camera and the main reason I got the GX7, after you get the hang of it it's pretty easy to setup. I prefer using the Wi-fi direct conection as if I'm already connected to a Wi-fi network I won't loose this connection and keep online sharing whatever I want. NFC triggers the usual Wi-fi connection so I keep it deactivated but can be useful for some.Image quality is a step up from older generations like the GF3. I was already happy! The tiltable viewfinder is great contributing better than other cameras to the small form, eletronic shutter even greater, focus peaking allows for easy manual focus shots... The other main reason why I chose this model was the built-in image stabilization. Great! Online reviewers say it's not that great compared with Olympus 5-axis but this one satisfy me.Great purchase, extremely satisfied with it. Recommended!

These cameras are great second hand - new they were nearly a 1000 to but, but now they have fallen down to a fraction of their price. But these are still very capable cameras - the autofocus is still super fast if you choice your lens carefully - unfortunately the 20mm 1.7 is a slow lens. The sensor until the Pen F was the flagship Micro 4/3 sensor - and 16mp is still great. EVF is a little small - but works well. and the grip is good - better than many Olympus pen cameras that lack it. If you pair with a prime lens and not the kit zoom, you will get great bokeh. Its nearly as good as Olympus oM1 and Pen F - but they cost way more

I own a Panasonic GH5 and needed an all around companion for street photography that I could use all my lenses on and as a decent B camera for shooting video. This camera ticks all those boxes and then some. I just love the way it feels to carry and use, much less cumbersome than GH5 for street. And having the same quality 20.3mp sensor makes it a little beast when it comes to sharpness and overall quality. I highly recommend it at today's price.
Now in my 70s I needed a camera that is lighter, but still produces great images. The Panasonic GX7 fits the bill perfectly. Its controls are comprehensive (and easy to use), and I've been very impressed with the pictures I've taken. The adjustable viewing screen and EVF are very helpful for composing at differing angles. More than most cameras (to me) the GX7 fits my hands perfectly. It has both RAW and JPEG capture, and a useable movie facility. I bought it because of its feature and lack of weight, but I'm now considering moving to a Micro 4/3 system, as most M4/3 enses are about half the weight of competitors. This is a big issue for me. Highly recommended.
Superb camera that pretty much takes on full size SLRs in a considerably smaller package. I got into m43 when they first came out years ago (the Olympus ep1), and just picked one of these up last month. To say m43 has come a long way since then is an understatement. Picture quality is super on this, great touch screen, superb and quick to find controls, great dial layout and a super good looking body. Made from solid metal and super rugged. I've been using with an old adapter manual OM 50mm lense and it's just superb. Electric silent shitter is a great feature (but not so good with enterior bulb lighting due to banding - excellent in every other situation) and the built in viewfinder is what sets this apart. Bought as 2nd hand with very low shutter count and camera is just as new. Fabulous camera to use and unlike many of the "G" series it has stabilisation built into the camera body which means that just about every lens fitted to it will be covered, even other brand lenses fitted with M4/3 adaptors. It also has a focus indication feature on Manual focus which is great when using adapted lenses. I think this is the best of the "G" series cameras. I can compare to G1 & G3, Less bulk than the straight "G" models and with a compact lens it will fit in a jacket pocket. ( I am currently using it with the 14-42 lens, a bit less compact but even that will still fit in my vest/bodywarmer large pocket) Packed full of features it covers every picture variation that I am ever ... It is said that the best camera in the world is the one you have with you. I have used everything from a Rollieflex, Yashica twin-lens Nikon F ftn and a whole array of lenses and I have used these professionally for over thirty years. Now in the digital age cameras are just as big with a mass of lenses and the quality of image is improving. I am also a collector of Zeiss 35mm film cameras that I will use B&W film in. So I am into a little bit of retro. When I saw the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX7 with its mirrorless micro 4/3 mount. I decided this might be the camera I can take anywhere. Especially as I could get an adapter that will use my 4/3 mount Leica influenced lenses. The Lumix 20mm F1:1.7 lens I bought to use it compact is an absolute delight. This is a cracking ... This is a cracking camera that I can use monochrome as well as full colour. Using a large capacity SDX card I can store loads of RAW images and they are stunning. I can't praise this camera enough and I will pick it up more often than anything else and take it with me everywhere.
Panasonic's Lumix DMC-GX7 is arguably the company's most enthusiast-focused mirrorless camera yet to hit the market. Back in 2011, Panasonic released the DMC-GX1 in a move to appease those who grew more and more disappointed as the promising GF-series got smaller and simpler, with fewer controls as the series progressed. The GX1, however, seemed like an interim move, adding minor enhancements to the original GF1 design and changing the badge, while fans watched as Sony's NEX-7 and the Olympus E-M5 offered more controls and sophisticated features, including built-in EVFs. While few of the GX7's specifications stand out as innovative (aside, perhaps, from its built-in articulated electronic viewfinder), it's still comfortably the most enthusiast-orientated 'G' model, ... MorePanasonic's Lumix DMC-GX7 is arguably the company's most enthusiast-focused mirrorless camera yet to hit the market. While few of the GX7's specifications stand out as innovative (aside, perhaps, from its built-in articulated electronic viewfinder), it's still comfortably the most enthusiast-orientated 'G' model, as well as the first to include in-body stabilization - key to shooting with non-native lenses. And beyond the headline specs it contains plenty of small tweaks and features sure to entice more advanced photographers. Key specifications 16MP Live MOS sensor In-body image stabilization Flip-up, 1024 x 768 pixel (2.3M dot equivalent) electronic viewfinder 3-inch tilting LCD Front and rear control dials Magnesium-alloy frame Built-in pop-up flash 3-level focus peaking 1/8000 second max shutter speed, 1/320th flash sync speed Highlight and shadow curve adjustments 1080 video at 60p/60i/24p in MP4 or AVCHD format Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC It's hard to know whether to think of the GX7 as being a post-NEX-7 or a post-E-M5 camera - but to an extent that's the point: unlike the GX1, which appeared to be a rather-too-late, warmed-over GF1, the GX7 is a camera that has learned from the increasingly impressive cameras it will have to compete with. Despite Panasonic producing an extensive range of image-stabilized lenses, the GX7 incorporates in-body stabilization. This will be a welcome move for anyone hoping to use either Olympus's Micro Four Thirds lenses, or legacy lenses via adapters. Combined the GX7's 'focus peaking' manual focus aid, it promises to make the GX7 one of the more capable options when it comes to shooting with adapted lenses. The GX7 has a lot to offer keen photographers, including a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec and a flash sync speed of 1/320 sec. The camera is also in unexpectedly exclusive company when it comes to offering a DSLR-like twin-dial control system. There are several mirrorless cameras with two control dials, but remarkably few that make it easy to simply set one to control aperture or shutter speed, and the other to control exposure compensation, which makes the semi-auto aperture and shutter priority modes enjoyable to shoot in. Additional enthusiast-friendly features include tone curve adjustment, 3-level focus peaking, and a whopping seven customizable buttons. So is the GX7 the mirrorless camera that enthusiasts have been waiting for? Keep reading to find out.
I was a Canon user until I was introduced to the Micro 4/3 mirror less system. After that, it was ,"Katie bar the door!" I have never regretted the decision to go with the M4/3 cameras. That said, I had purchased the GX7 when it first hit the store shelves. I have this camera and the GH4. If I am grabbing a camera in a dash and run, I always take the GX7! It is light, FULL of GREAT FEATURES! I originally bought this because it had "in camera panorama stitching" It does this with speed and accuracy. LOVE IT! I bought a second one to convert to IR.
