The Lumix Vario 45-150 telephoto lens happened to be on sale for $149 at the time so I added that to the camera purchase. I am glad I did! The lens is extremely light and well made. I really like this lens and have used it a lot. The build quality is also good, and gives a lot of confidence. Its possible to take sharp photos at maximum aperture at all focal lengths. Its easy to carry. The controls are smoothly engineered. The only small issue I have in use with my GX80 camera is that the dual IS (where the IS systems of the lens and camera work in tandem for extra effect) results in the image shifting unless the camera is held very steady. This means I get a sharp image which doesnt quite have the same framing as Ive chosen. With my other cameras that dont have in-body IS, this doesnt happen.

This lens is better than it has any right to be for the price. Cheap kit telephotos used to be terrible, this lens is a pleasant surprise! I have several good Panasonic primes and this lens compares very well at same apertures. I like it because it's so small and light for the range. Obviously it's not a low light shooter with the aperture range, but in good light it delivers. The zoom ring is not the smoothest but that's not surprising for the price. Overall this tiny telephoto is excellent in my book.

I did use it at the track, but stuck mostly to my 100-300mm f/4-5.6 lens because of limited access. (It was the best superzoom on the market that autofocuses.) It does autofocus very quickly and zooms smoothly. The primary focal lengths are clearly marked and easy to match up because the zoom is so smooth and accurate. There's no roughness, it's easy to change focal lengths but it also stays out pretty well. Obviously it will probably have some zoom creep if you leave it angled downwards like any zoom lens would, but otherwise it feels solid and like it's good quality. It focused on both fast moving race cars and landscapes while driving on the freeway. For what this lens is, it's really nice. I haven't really used it much, but I was amazed at how much nicer it is than my previous Canon lenses. The Canon lenses were on the low end of the price scale, but were actually the same amount of money or more when I bought them as these were. I suppose not needing so much material allows manufacturers to put nicer quality glass and parts in to relatively cheap lenses. The weight and price differences between my old Canon setup and my new Panasonic kit is the reason I switched to micro 4/3 in the first place. I realized I could buy everything (camera body, lenses, flash, accessories) for way less than the cost of one lens, and what completely sold me was how small and light everything is. My whole kit weighs less than that one lens too, and I would also need a much bigger, heavier and more expensive lens in addition to that to really get anywhere near the amount of zoom I need. (That one is over $11k for anyone wondering and it weighs 8 pounds.) I am a small woman and I have a lot of chronic pain and problems because of a bad car accident several years ago, so even a 1 pound lens is too much sometimes. Anyways, back to the lens. I love how small, light and cheap this lens is. It's not the absolute best quality lens you can get, but it's also super cheap (especially when purchased used) and surprisingly nice for the price. The inescapable fact of micro 4/3 is that the aperture of any lens is affected by the crop factor of the format and when you get a lens that has a rather limited speed (speed is another way of talking about aperture) to begin with, it really affects things, especially when you want a nice bokeh effect. For the type of photography I do, the trade off is worth it; but it really, really makes the more expensive lenses that much more necessary for those who use manual or semi-manual modes. That being said, if you do a lot of landscape photography, group photos, or are just a broke beginner, this is a great starting lens. It's certainly much better than the Canon lenses I used before changing systems. This lens is very capable of getting very decent pictures while you're saving for the more expensive one or just learning and the fact that you can choose between black and silver is a bonus. I personally really enjoy having a silver lens in my kit. It stands out nicely and makes it even easier to switch lenses without having to really look at them first. As for the rating I gave this, I was debating whether to give this four stars since it really won't measure up to the better quality lenses or five stars because it is much better than one would expect considering the price and spec differences. I ultimately decided it deserves five stars because you really can't expect a lens that's under $300 to compare to one that's $1k. It deserves five stars because it's that good for the price.
I really am a beginning photographer and I bought rhis lens because I don't have much money to spend on lenses. It takes good quality pictures, no doubt about that. If you know what you are doing it can be GREAT! But it does have some problems focusing and if you want close up shots, this definitely is not the lens for you. This would be great for portraits and interviews though. Works really well there. I appreciate the filters that came with it. UV one is fantastic for shooting out in the sun. If you need a cheaper lens to save moneg I would recommend this one
A nice lens to cover many situations when shooting landscape details.Fast enough for most lighting situations, the light weight is appreciated when hiking. Using this in combination with a G85 I have had a short learning curve adapting to the auto focusing system. As I use this set up more I am getting comfortable with it.
In June I purchased a G7 kit camera, with a 14-42 lens, which is very serviceable for some basic photographs. This 45-150 lens is a good step up for some basic zoom and closeup shots. I am new to interchangeable lenses, and this one is for me a good for learning. The lens is light weight for its quality. Easy to focus and zoom in and out. For beginners it's a good way to progress.
The lens is inexpensive and very easy to use. The zoom feature is manual, but the focus is automatic. I paired it with my Olympus E-M10iii. I might have purchased the M. Zuiko version, but when I went to Best Buy, they had the Lumix instead. It works just fine. It comes with a lens hood. The metadata does not record the type of lens, as it would if this were an M. Zuiko, but it captures the other data, including the focal length.
Upgraded my Panasonic GH4 with this lens from the kit lens. For wildlife photography this lens has been an excellent addition to my kit. It’s extremely sharp for what I need and I’m able to get very good background separation from the subject. Compared to my aps-c counterpart this lens packs, a greater punch in a smaller package. I purchased this lens on sale for $250 and it has completely blown away my expectations.

Of the 4 Panasonic lens near this range and performance, the 35-100 45-175 and the 45-200 (not including any newer "II" or F2.8 versions) I have found this to be the best in natural outdoor light settings, whether street or landscape. The 45-150 is the simpler design with the fewest elements and the cost savings was achieved by not using ED elements while improving more even sharpness and less CA. I don't think anyone can go wrong with any lens mentioned above, if they did it would only because they paid too much.
