After waiting 5 months for delivery a couple of things struck me when first using this lens.... the reasonable price and it's lightweight versatility while maintaining deep saturated color. It also has really nicely balance pleasing contrast and superb center sharpness along with accurate fast auto-focus. I shot mainly .5X macro tests on flowers along with a few shots at infinity, all at 300mm wide open at f 5.6. Impressive lens, since I shot the same subjects with the superb Lumix Pro S 50mm f1.4 , the Leica Summilux macro 28mm f1.7 and the 24-105mm f4 Panasonic macro, all wide open at max. aperture. Surprisingly, this lens had VG micro-contrast, accurate full color and near excellent sharpness when compared to the 50mm and 28mm. Attached are the 300mm f5.6 snaps I made assuming they download. This is a great lens addition that I can easily see used for sports ( Excellent color/contrast) or shooting macros . Stopped down lens produces 80% of micro-contrast detail in textures compared to the fantastic Leica. So far Panasonic is 100% for quality control and build.

Feels great in the hand. Nice tight zoom (though I preferred the zoom worked in the opposite direction (but that's just a personal preference). Love the results I get. Excellent, lower cost, alternative to a Leica with an extra bump in the zoom department!

I bought this for my CL for landscapes and architecture. I do not know if it has enough range for birding, but it is relatively light and compact for my purposes. Easy to handhold with outstanding image stabilization. The image stabilization will use up the CL battery quickly so have a spare ready. I use it with the shutter on electronic to avoid shutter slap. With modern cameras having the ability to shoot higher ISO, the aperture is wide enough. I had tested this versus the Sigma 100-400 and found this the better lens on a CL by far for me.

This is a well made, light easy to use lens. As a longtime Leica user (30+ years), I have become use to what I can produce from various Leica systems. Some Panasonic lenses I have, do match in image quality my various Leica lenses. In the case of this lens, it does not. That does not mean that it is a poor lens, it just does not match my expectations given the Leica lenses (in this case the Leica R 180mm and 280mm APO lenses) I have. Yes, it is very compact and light, but for me, the image quality is just not there.
I purchased a used copy of this lens from B&H to go along with my S5/20-60mm kit. The result is a very nice, portable travel kit that is both affordable as well as capable of creating very good images. The 70-300mm is light and compact. The build is very good. The optics are good and consistent with the better lenses in this price category. The camera and lenses fit conveniently in a bag. Perfect for a walk at home or abroad. There is a review above that ditzes this lens because reviewer felt the lens, while not bad, did not compare favorably with his Leica lenses. Such a comparison is silly and reflects an absence of understanding by the reviewer about what this lens is about. This is a good lens that is fun to use and fairly priced.
This lens replaces my 55-135mm TL, as it has stabilization, longer reach, and weighs only a little more than the TL lens. Color is Leica-like, and the lens is plenty sharp, even good for incidental bird photography of more confiding birds. B&H's shipping was fast, although they might want to consider using a bit more tape for international shipments, as the box was nearly open at one end when I received it.
Thrilled with this lens. I've become an avid birdwatcher lately and this lens is perfect for that an many other wildlife photo opportunities. I'll be visiting a couple national parks soon and this lens will DEFINITELY be in my camera bag.

Straight from the camera except the Gold Finch which was cropped file size reduced by 10%.
Those considering this lens have to make a concession of weight for brightness. This lens is lighter and cheaper than a comparable 2.8. And, it has an 11 blade aperture which makes for great bokeh. How does it perform?I've only shot a couple of hundred shot with it so far but I find the results really outstanding. It controls flare well and has wonderful bokeh. For shots outside it's awesome. For indoors you're going to need some light. The lens is a quality product and feels solid but not as heavy as expected.I recommend this lens to those who are shooting outdoors - for my landscape comrades, it's great.Dan
This lens is great on the SL2! Quite a bit smaller than the Sigma 100-400 which is also great IMHO! But for every day carry in a smallish ONA Rochester bag this is great! Very happy with image quality too!As a macro, it's also good, and give a pretty long working distance. Check out the photo.

Panasonic Lumix S 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 Macro OIS Lens
The Lumix S 70300 mm F4.55.6 telephoto zoom combines the dual stabilisation system (Dual IS), the OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) of the lens with the stabiliser in the Lumix Sseries cameras and thus compensates for camera shake, enabling a shutter speed 2 that is 5.5 fstops slower. The focus control with a maximum 480 fps highspeed sensor drive realises fast, highprecision autofocus. The Lumix S 70300mm F4.55.6 Macro OIS is compact and lightweight, allowing for convenient mobility. The robust, dust and splashproof 4 construction also withstands use in harsh conditions, even at 10° C. The fluorine coating on the front element is also water and oil repellent.
