Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Multi-Language)
Join Mario on an epic paper-adventure to collect the Crystal Stars before the X-Nauts do! The nefarious X-Nauts are after the treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door! With a map from Princess Peach, and the help of a few locals, Mario journeys through a colorful world made of paper to find them first. To prevail in this quest, you’ll have to level up Mario and his friends, master timing-based attacks and badges to impress the audience on the stage of combat, and make use of all the abilities that come with being cursed—er, conveniently made of paper—like folding into a plane to cross big gaps or turning sideways to slip through narrow openings. Leaf through a storybook world with charming characters in every fold Surprises abound in this deep and engaging tale, where everyone’s got something to say and it’s often not what you’d expect. Mario will meet all kinds of interesting folks on his journey, like the upbeat and studious Goombella and the shy but determined Koops. Some of these characters will need your help with their own quests, or even join your party. Others, like Peach and Bowser, have stories of their own that you’ll play between Mario’s chapters!

The Mario series took a clever turn with 2000's Paper Mario. The style, humor, and characters were out of this world. When you level up you can either increase your health, increase your flower power so you can pull off more moves special abilities per fight, or increase your badge points so you can wear more badges at any given time. Outside of fighting there are small puzzles throughout the game that require the help of various sidekicks to solve. Like the first Paper Mario you'll gather a colorful band of characters, each with special abilities that can be performed outside of combat. One final note to the gameplay is the return of the ever useful double hit/dodge mechanic. During fights you can hit special quick time events that all.

Anyone who likes the original should try this remake~! It adds a fresh coat of paint to all the visuals, and a couple shortcuts have been added in some chapters to mitigate some of the backtracking! The new remake soundtrack is good, even adding alternate versions of some songs (like separate songs for Hooktail, Gloomtail, and Bonetail!), although also different from the original, which was a masterpiece in its own right. But, for those who would rather listen to the original soundtrack, the Nostalgic Tunes badge (available for a paltry 1 coin in Rogueport’s Badge Shop) can set the soundtrack back to the original~!This remake is definitely worth playing: if you’ve read the review this long, just get it. I purchased origami king back when it was released, but it took me a while to get around to playing it. Once I did, I feel in love with the Paper Mario format and wanted more! I kept searching for similar games but nothing was quite the same. I had heard from friends that 1000 year door was the best, but I had no way to play it since I never owned the game cube. When I heard this was being remade for switch is was soooooo excited! Right from the opening scenes this game catches you. It’s full of humor and the story is fast paced, and nothing feel tedious or “grindy”. Every chapter has been delightful and Mario continues to learn new moves and secrets. 1000 Year for far surpasses my expectations, and I simply can not wait till the next Paper Mario title.

What an amazing remaster/remake for this 20 year old game! I've always been one who usually passes on these because; A) There often is very little difference from the original version or B) It's different than the original, but a whole host of new bugs are introduced and/or poor optimization (Silent Hill HD Collection comes to mind). Not only does this remaster enhance the original with quality-of-improvements and graphics that make it look modern, but it's close enough to the original in "feel" and color palette that there were occasions I'd forget I wasn't on the GameCube! This was and still is my favorite of the "Mario RPG" sub genre, and I'm happy it'll live on and be rediscovered by younger people. If anything, I'm dismayed that it took Nintendo this long, ... Revisiting this GameCube gem was a real joy for me. If you've played the original, it's essentially the same game but has been rebuilt from the ground up using the Origami King engine. The updated graphics and lighting effects surpass the original and the remastered orchestrated score sounds just as rich. The 30fps wasn't as noticeable as I thought it was going to be thankfully but some people do report the menu navigation not being as snappy and super-guards feeling a bit different.New quality of life improvements such as the partner quick-swap, the additional pipe shortcuts, and significant efforts to mitigate the tiresome backtracking in areas such as Twilight Town and Keelhaul Key are hugely appreciated. If you're thinking of picking this up for a first-time ... The game absolutely holds up nostalgia aside.
This game was my childhood, originally on the GameCube. It is my absolute favorite Paper Mario game of all time, from mechanics to storytelling. I knew going into it that not much would be changed and I was simply excited to play it once again. But boy was I wrong. To simple backtracking and quality of life changes to the GORGEOUS soundtrack and visuals. There is a complete new breath of life in this game and it is easily the best looking and playing Paper Mario game of all time, despite the 30 fps frame cap. Sure it would feel smoother at 60, but a game like this simply does not need to be that high and I didn't even notice the difference once throughout my entire playthrough. This game is a must buy for all RPG enjoyers, you will not be disappointed.
TTYD is my favourite gamecube game and after decades of less than stellar attempts at capturing the magic again with the sequels it seems Nintendo finally realized the solution: remake it.The game is all prettied up from the GCN version. The music is so nice and even lets you listen to the classic soundtrack if you want, and it got some nice quality of life updates. Travel between areas is much quicker now with some new shortcuts, your coin maximum is significantly higher now (9999 vs 999), there's a nice bonus of extra coins when you beat a boss. There's even some new secret bosses that really push your skill with the action commands and learning how to build your power with badge choices. If you never got to play TTYD on gamecube or just want a nostalgic run ... I can totally see why everyone was complaining about modern paper Mario now, I don't think I can ever go back. Every single character is unique from one another, the world is bright and colorful, the story is SO engaging and slightly dark at times. If you have heard all the talk about how TTYD was one of Nintendo's best games and wondering if it was true id say absolutely and its worth a shot!HOWEVERYou must keep in mon that this is NOTHING like the origami king that is also on switch. In saying that however, unlike other RPGs you don't just press a button and watch an animation. Each attack serves at there own mini quick time event. Its not the MOST engaging thing in the world but its better than Pokémon ill give it that.Which game should YOU get? This is a hard decision because although not EVERYONE likes RPGs TOK has puzzles as its main battle gimmick which some might argue is MORE boring. however TOK has measure's in place to make sure the player never stays stuck on a puzzle for to long. If you don't feel your child has the attention span for RPGs then I say TTYD, however if that can (or if they are older) I do suggest TTYDDO NOT buy TTYD first than TOK If you wanna get them both. TOK is less satisfying experience (compared to TTYD that is anyway.)
This remake manages to go above and beyond the expectations of Paper Mario fans and Nintendo fans alike and delivers on nearly every front. Brand new music, stunning new visuals with a perfected Paper aesthetic, expressive animations, 360 degree hammering, the ability to switch to gamecube tracks on the fly, it's got it all. There's even 2 new Superbosses that weren't in the original game. It manages to improve what was already a masterpiece of a game and push it to near perfection. The best part of TTYD is the stellar badge system which allows for near endless gameplay customization, letting players choose the difficulty themselves. Badges like double pain, unsimplifier, and the ability to only upgrade BP and nothing else makes for a fun and difficult optional extra challenge for skilled players willing to go the extra mile. The only downsides are that some animations especially in battles take a bit too long. Starpower animations, the time it takes to restore HP, FP, and SP after leveling up, and cutscenes are not skippable from the get-go. This could easily be fixed however in a future update, and even these things can be overlooked, since as a whole this game is a magnificent masterclass of an RPG, maintaining all of the nuances and battle mechanics that were in the 1st 2 Paper Mario games. We can only hope that Intelligent systems learns from this and makes a brand new game that follows in TTYD's footsteps and innovates while keeping the core elements which make these games to beloved by us fans.tldr; this is a MUST HAVE game for Nintendo Switch owners. You WILL love this game.
This is a MOSTLY faithful remake of the 2004 Nintendo Gamecube title that many fans of the Paper Mario franchise have held beloved. If you were around 20 years ago to play this title, you will enjoy this one. Changes include quality-of-life improvements that greatly reduce the amount of backtracking the original required, new sprites and animations (including being able to swing Mario's hammer facing north and south) and a remixed soundtrack (along with the option to use the original if you are a purist). The game has also had some changes to its writing although minor and due to all the graphical improvements this game is locked to a steady 30 FPS (if that bothers you or not is purely up to the player). Players new to this game will find this title very charming and may be wrapped up in its lengthy story following 8 chapters. The battle system is very similar to the original Paper Mario (released in 2001 and is playable on the Wii Virtual Console and Nintendo Switch N64 Expansion Pass) with the addition of battle modifiers such as action commands and "Stylish" manuevers to quickly increase your Special Power meter. I think this title greatly holds up 2 decades since its original release. Definitely recommend.
