I know this is all subjective but I could not disagree more with Valeriu’s review. This does not smell like Red Tobacco by Mancera. If you look at Layton’s Fragrantica page you will not see a single vote for Red Tobacco in the “this reminds me of” section, nor will you see it mentioned in a single review.Red Tobacco smells incredibly similar (almost identical, with very slight differences) to another Parfums de Marly fragrance, called Carlisle, maybe this is what Valeriu means and there’s been a bit of confusion. Very gourmand and vanilla heavy (I’ve seen it compared to an apple pie) but it’s the addition of that menthol note (which may smell a bit unusual at first, but give it time and you’ll grow to adore it) that really gives this a lot more versatility and interest than just a standard autumn/winter fragrance. Performance is amazing as well, just lasts and projects like a beast. Mass pleasing but unique at the same time.Whilst I prefer Herod myself (even with it’s terrible performance), there’s no denying that this has to be one of the best crowd-pleasing niche scents out there, as well as one of the most versatile. I can’t imagine wearing this and a single person who smells you not thinking “wow”. Gorgeous stuff.Ps. Since we’re talking about Red Tobacco, it is also a gorgeous fragrance that lasts FOREVER and fills a room with just a couple of sprays. The opening is harsh but once it settles (after a couple of hours) it’s absolutely beautiful. It doesn’t smell like Layton imo but it’s still definitely worth picking up if you like sweet vanilla spicey scents.

I love everything about this Cologne. An exquisite blend of apple, vanilla, sandalwood and lavender meshed together to form a unique and incredible fragrance. This has the potential to be mass-pleasing while having a unique refinement to it. The sweetness of the apple stand on top of everything and yet it's subtle enough not to be cloying in any way. It will bring compliments in a social context because of how unique and refined it is. Wear it on a first date and it might be the best fragrance she ever smelt on a man, period.

Layton Exclusif topples the original and climbs to rank #1 in my fragrance wardrobe just due to how it is artfully blended. That oud simply elevates this composition from a mass appealing introductory fragrance in Layton, to something uniquely and posh in Exclusif! The woody notes are definitely amped up in this one, compared to the original. This one also leans more masculine! I do get a glimpse of the original mid-way through on this one. However, the ambroxan in this one is not as noticeable as in the original (thankfully). The fruits are present but more in the background, the coffee blends perfectly with the vanilla. It does have a bit of medicinal feel to it but in the most appealing way possible. The animalistic feel you get from the civet ties this into the unique PDM scent that stands out from my collection. The only problem with this scent, it loses the mass appeal that the OG has, but for me this is a big plus is definitely more unique and more of an acquired taste! This fragrance performs like a workaholic absentee father (24 hours+, 7-8 hours of solid projection) and this is one of the few "animalic" (but more aptly just woody and dark) perfumes that I've gotten complimented on.

I don’t understand how everyone male or female is completely blown away by Layton. The older batches are much better, in every category. Yet again, perfumery’s dumb, biased, conflict of interest regulation standards ruining another popular fragrance. The new batches after the formula changed from 78% to 82% didn’t have the god awful cherry/fruity robitussin cough syrup smell. $400+ for this should be a felony. That being said, layering the new batches with YSL La Nuit de L’homme or LNDL’h Bleu Electrique and now we’re talking about something that goes from average to above average and doesn’t smell so medicinal anymore. You can buy so many better niche fragrances than this one for the price point. It’s worth $175 max for 125ml.

Sillage in opening) Projection is just strong enough to garner some positive attention in moderate range. Versatility, again, is excellent. So, only drawback, yep, price. Yeah, this one's a little pricey and can easily be outside of the Joe Average budget. Thank goodness for deals and coupons! I recommend trying a decant first while saving up the cash to get a full bottle. They also come in 75ml if the big one is too much! This is the scent guys. I know it's more expensive, but hear me out...Layton is the one. Those other fragrances with their attention grabbing bottles are for boys, this is for a man. There's a reason all the famous reviewers have Layton at the top, because it belongs there. This is the scent of money, confidence and even a little hedonism if you prefer. Ladies have chased me down to find out what I'm wearing.The performance is beast mode and projects for 8 or 9 hours on my skin. Great sillage and just an intoxicating fragrance. Class in a bottle. I have a few Tom Fords, but nearly every single fragrance Parfums de Marly has is incredible. Julian has done an incredible job with PDM. I wear Layton in the fall/winter and mix in Herod and Carlisle as well. I'm the spring/summer it's Galloway, Sedley and Greenley. This is all you need. I don't wear fragrances for anyone but myself and my wife has to approve. This is the most intoxicating fragrance you will ever smell.

Well balanced and amazing

This is a very popular fragrance and I can see why. Parfums de Marly managed to perfectly balance a sweet, rich scent with a fruity, fresh scent. It's amazing how well-blended and balanced this fragrance is. It can be a signature scent, formal or for warm or cold weather. An amazing fragrance, but with surprisingly limited sillage and lasting power. That's my one main complaint is the lasting power. Other than that an amazing fragrance.

Well worth the price!

Honestly I was curious how this would actually smell considering so much hype on this fragrance. When you spray there is a loud scent trail, something i like. I was curious how long it would be loud like the opening, it was still loud for 8/9 hours. After that the scent is still easily smelled but now the projection comes comes closer to the skin within 2feeti was surprised how much this scent changed but every time it smelled wonderful i got a different note. This was a masterpiece you have to smell to really understand. It smells like luxurious & like an expensive fragrance. I would recommend if you wanted something different and wanted to stand out. This will do it 100% percent
