Park Tool CC-4 Chain Checker
The Park Tool CC-4 Chain Checker is a precision tool designed for accurate measurement of bicycle chain wear. It's a must-have for any cycling enthusiast or professional mechanic. The CC-4 is a drop-in style gauge that measures chain wear with laser-cut precision, contacting the chain at three strategic points. This tool is perfectly suited for any 5 to 12-speed derailleur chain, including the advanced SRAM AXS system. It helps identify when your chain reaches the critical wear marks, which are the points at which most manufacturers recommend replacement. This makes it easier to perform preventive maintenance and extend the life of your drivetrain.

I got this tool because I suspected my chain to be stretched and in order to avoid buying a new chain, or risking to wear a $400 cassette, I decided to get this tool and verify. The chain is still within tolerance. Great tool for anyone working on their own bikes.

I was always skeptical of fancy chain tools until I watched a video on how this tool works. It loads the rollers in the same direction to measure more accurately. I rechecked about 3 old chains I was keeping for COVID spares if things god bad, and they all checked out as ok with this tool. Turns out I have been replacing chains too often using my cheaper two prong tool. With the price of parts these days this will same me hundreds a year by measuring 0.5% wear more accurately.

In the past measuring chain wear was more of a dark art than a fixed science, this tools changes that. The chain checker is well thought out, simple to use, very affordable, and will only take a small amount of space in your tool box. Trying this for the first time I found it simple and quick to use, and knew instantly the condition of my chains. I recommend adding this to your tool box. Tom.

Instructions on the packet are the same as those found here https://www.parktool.com/assets/doc/product/CC-4_instructions.pdf, but without the figures, making them useless. People shouldn't have to rely on online instructions
The packaging has clear instructions. Essential for measuring wear on SRAM Red 12 speed flat top chains, for which earlier Park Tool chain checkers are not suitable.Reassuring to be able to check the chain before wearing out or damaging the eye wateringly expensive SRAM Red cassettes.
Simple and effective tool that takes the guesswork out of when to replace chains. I have multiple bikes and this will definitely get used enough to justify its cost.Fast and great service from CBO.
This simple to use chain checker isolates for pin and roller wear and it is accurate. Do be aware that it is a go/no-go device. I have found that replacing 5-9 speed chains at 0.75 on the indicator and replacing 10-11 speed chains at 0.5 on the indicator works well. These intervals keep my drive chains quiet and maximize the life of my cogs and chainrings.
Brilliant! Don’t know how many people appreciate it, but the rear-end tensioning method eliminates a lot of roller-wear error. Just wish the frint end went to 1%. Maybe the geometry doesn’t allow for it. Anyway, get this one!!
I bought this tool on the advice of a bike shop after already investing in a CC-2 chain checker. I would have to say that the CC-4 is more confidence inspiring for a newbie like myself. The method for checking is easy to master and produces consistent results. Mind you, the CC-2 tool also seems good but the CC-4 does seem a better design from my point of view.
wore out my drivetrain even though the standard chain checker showed less than 0.5% wear (10K kms). Turnsout the SRAM 12s flat top chains have 'fatter' rollers which means a normal tool - one that measure between the inside of two rollers - will under read. You need to measure from leading edge to leading edge which is what the CC-4 checker does. Save yourself $600 in drivetrain bits and buy one of these!
