I owned the 2000 model of this vest, which I loved, and recently replaced for free with the Patagonia Ironclad Guarantee with its 2022 model due to zipper failure. Noticeable changes include its fit due to how it is sewn - I prefer the older model, which is more form fitting, the newer one has a higher neck, which is good because it provides more coverage, but when fully zipped its neck no longer sits flush and sticks out, so it looks odd. I really like and appreciate the addition internal pockets on the newer model, which has three in total compared to only one from the older model. This vest has maintained true down that is not synthetic, so it will keep you warmer. Overall this vest is a perfect piece of gear to layer with for added warmth that wont compromise ... MoreI owned the 2000 model of this vest, which I loved, and recently replaced for free with the Patagonia Ironclad Guarantee with its 2022 model due to zipper failure. I was looking for a vest for my walk-workout and to travel to cooler climates and it is mission accomplished with this vest.I would consider this a heavy vest in that it is very warm when working out. I've worn it under a light warm-up jacket and with only a long-sleeve shirt both in mid-50's degree slightly windy situations and I've been very comfortable. As with any type of layering, all that's needed is to open the zipper to vent and let in cooler air. I've seen a complaint about the 'wing' collar but the extra material is needed to make a collar that covers the neck when fully zipped. When not fully zipped, I press the collar down or just let it be. To me it's a minor issue and a function of a full collar.

I’ve used this vest extensively since I received it, and am happy with my purchase. Very light, well made, and warmer than expected vest that works well as either an insulating layer under a shell or as a stand alone garment for cooler fall/ spring days. To date, have not had any problems with the down filling bleeding through the fabric. I would have given the vest a 5 star rating except for 2 minor issues - 1) when paired with a heavier shirt or sweater, the fit around the bottom edge of the vest is tight when zipped up, and seems to be an aggressive athletic slim fit cut, and 2) the stand-up collar always always seems to be in the way.

First, I am the ultimate; and a loyal Patagonia customer for over 40 years. So my criticism of recent update to the classic down sweater vest sis honest and strictly constructive. Note, I currently have 15 down sweater vests in my wardrobe. Functionally, this new design its super uncomfortable when fully zipped with the ridiculously super high collar. Aesthetically, the slanted seams of the new collar design is unsightly and does not allow the vest when open to look cool. When unzipped, each collar falls flat along said seam and the resulting look is just awful. Lastly, Wax Red is not red, its burgundy. Sorry.
It's a great product! I had to get use to it being so light weight because in my mind I thought it wouldn't be as warm as my old and heavier vest. I was pleasantly surprised though that it's very warm like my Patognia coat! That said unfortunately I will be taking all of my P apparel to The Salvation Army I won't be wearing the Patogonia brand anymore because of their meddling in politics. I don't care which side you're on all money is green and politics and business need to be kept apart. It makes me sad because I really love the products and was a god spokesperson for it!
Recently had to replace my old down sweater jacket and vest as the down had totally lost all loft after 8+ years of hard wear and multiple beatings in the dryer with tennis balls. This vest is definitely puffier than the old style - wider baffles makes it feel more like youre wrapped in a sleeping bag. This is great for cozy warmth but it does make it tougher to layer under a blazer or work coat - less of a problem under a shell. The collar is taller than the old style, a feature I liked for warmth and eliminating the need for a scarf. The main zipper seems more great and doesn't catch when zipping up fast but the side zippers on the pockets do tend to annoyingly catch the fabric. All in all, a great piece in the fall wardrobe but not quite as awesome as the old ... MoreRecently had to replace my old down sweater jacket and vest as the down had totally lost all loft after 8+ years of hard wear and multiple beatings in the dryer with tennis balls. Unfortunately, my first experience with Patagonia was not a good one. I tried on the Men's Down Sweater Vest in a Patagonia store and it fit fine. All of my jacks and non t-shirt tops are all Medium. A few weeks later I saw the current version of this vest on sale at Patagonia in Wax Red and ordered a Medium. Unfortunately, when it arrived it was at least 2" short of closing. I have another down vest by another manufacturer in Medium that fits fine. I took the vest to a Patagonia store to exchange it but the clerk recognized it as a sale item and immediately started to ring up a refund. I asked if they had it in Large, but they didn't have any sale items in stock and my only option was to buy a black one, which was not on sale and would cost $100 more! Really poor ... MoreUnfortunately, my first experience with Patagonia was not a good one. I tried on the Men's Down Sweater Vest in a Patagonia store and it fit fine. Disappointing product for several reasons. First, it fits differently than the Patagonia wool vest I own and enjoy (Size L). This product is long in the torso and has a high neck collar in comparison. Second, it is a trim fit, which I did not expect. Third, the high collar creates a cumbersome, unattractive spread when zipped three-quarters. Bottom line: I will return it.Incidentally, I am 6-2, weigh 190 lb, wear a 16.5in/35in shirts and have a 36in waist.
I purchased this vest from a local outdoor shop here in town, and I can't take it off. Like literally, this vest has changed the game for me.Before finding this vest, I struggled to find a happy medium of temperature in the wintertime. I was either too cold (Not enough layers) or too warm (Too big of coats). Even my Patagonia Nano Puff jacket can be too warm for me.I had always wanted a vest, so I finally pulled the trigger and purchased one. Following my purchase and the high satisfaction I've received since my purchase, I went online to see other colors. Upon searching for this vest, I was so disappointed with the reviews. Everyone is subject to their own opinions, so I'd like to share mine. The collar isn't too tall. Everyone is subject to their own opinions, so I'd like to share mine. The collar isn't too tall. Yes, it appears to be taller than previous seasonal drops, but it's perfect. When zipped up, it helps keep your neck nice and warm. You can even tuck your chin down in which is so nice. I haven't seen the red in person, so I don't have a strong opinion on it, but I think the slightly darker tone of red Patagonia decided to use for this year's vest is brilliant. It's not overbearing, and without a doubt, it's in style. This vest, matched with a cozy quarter-zip, will turn heads at the ski lodge, a lovely evening dinner with your special someone, or even your business meetings. If I were to summarize my review, I would say this. This vest is warm, in style, and timeless. You can wear this for years, and people will wonder where to pick one up, just like yours.Thank you, Patagonia. You've yet to make something that disappoints.-Ethan
Like everything about the vest but the collar is way to high which ruins it.Bought online from Patagonia in med and was very excited about it. I have a lot of Patagonia product and was happy until this vest.Took it back to the store in Boulder and wanted to exchange it for something else. But that would have cost me $60 ish to downgrade to a better fitting nano puff.So end of the day I am disappointed, I find odd Patagonia utilized this collar as its over your ears when you sit, and just plain looks odd when you are standing.Patagonia - help me lol.
