Comfortable, but not durable

Probably the most comfortable underwear Ive ever worn, cozy in winter and somehow still cool in the summer.Unfortunately the fabric wears out fast. Every pair gets holes in the crotch where the tencel disintegrates, then the spandex mesh rips out and theyre done. This is with normal casual wear, nothing stretching or stressing the fabric to any extreme. Always washed on cold gentle cycle and air dried. For the price Id expect much better durability. The waistband and fabric everywhere else is fine, so its clearly an issue just at key friction or stress points. Wish there was a way to repair or at least recycle them, but I definitely wouldnt buy any more.

For the price they should have a pouch like 2UNDR

I’ve tried SAXX, MyPackage which later became BN3TH, and 2UNDR and since I prefer to buy fair trade made products I thought I’d try Patagonia’s underwear. I have to say you can do better than this Patagonia. You should make underwear with a very similar design to 2UNDR’s Powershift style, but make them out of sugarcane derived plastic like the sugar down jacket. I find all the super soft modal style fabrics don’t hold up over time. As you know clothing that doesn’t last is bad for the environment in quite a few different ways. Most of your products are built to last, but I don’t think that these underwear would last near as long as my 2UNDR powershifts, although being that they’re joining my pile of last resort underwear they’ll definitely last for me.

Great product. Disappointing packaging
8 August 2022

The underwear itself is typically Patagonia goodness. Much softer than I expected for wicking fabric. Fits comfortably. Solid quality.I ordered online direct from Patagonia. The underwear come in a cardboard box with no plastic window. Two thumbs up. But then each box is in its own plastic bag. When I complained on the socials, my friends sent a link to Patagonias explanation. I get it. The waste of damaged product is greater than the waste of 100% recycled plastic bags. However, their study was done with loose product not product in boxes.I will keep shopping at Patagonia because they are way better than most companies. But they still have work ahead of them.

Mens Essential Boxer Briefs

I cannot say enough about these underwear. I purchased four pair almost 12 years ago for my husband who is a truck driver and here those four pairs are still going strong today. Every Christmas since then family members give him other brands of underwear and he gives them away or he puts them to the side. When he was asked what he wanted for Christmas he said all I want on my Patagonia underwear. So this year we ordered him eight pairs. My husband drives a Semi Tractor trailer and from so much friction he literally lost the skin on his buttocks. It was recommended that he wear a fabric that wicked moisture away and was breathable and this is when we came across Patagonias underwear. Quality ruins the perfect boxer briefs
26 February 2023

Im gonna start with I love the fit and comfort of these. But I just cant buy another pair. They just dont last. Every pair Ive bought in the last six months are already in the garbage. Patagonia needs to live up to their marketing here.Specifically the material in the Inner thigh wears out fast. Its not resilient, and very thin to start.I also tried a larger size to see if it was just getting stretched to thin but no. They are just not made well. Its also worth mentioning that it seems to be a factory problem. As sometimes they last for an acceptable amount of time. (Still not great maybe a year). Then you buy a few pairs that wear immediately. Sadly Im moving on.

Size is a problem.
12 May 2022

I love Patagonia products and, as you may know, I have purchased a lot of them over the last 35 years. I have one complaint that has arisen over the last 5 or so years: the sizes keep changing. The medium version of these boxer briefs is definitely smaller than the ones I bought a few years ago. Recently, I purchased a large size large rain jacket from you, but it was distinctly bigger than large Patagonia jackets I've bought in the past. Your quarter zip R1 fleece is also larger than it used to be. Bottom line, for tops I now appear to be right in between a medium and a large, where I used to always be large. For the boxer briefs, I used to be a perfect medium (32-33 waist), but now I'm apparently a large, although those are a little big for me. Frustrating. Thanks ... MoreI love Patagonia products and, as you may know, I have purchased a lot of them over the last 35 years. So far so good
24 August 2022

I have been exclusively wearing Ex-Officio Give-N-Go boxer briefs for about 10 years. I discovered them while looking for something i could sink wash on a mountaineering trip and ended up replacing all of my boxers with them. As my first pairs are starting to wear out (seriously, after 10 years of daily wear), I'm trying to diversify and find some good alternatives. So far, these "Essential" boxer briefs have been super comfortable in fabric and fit, but I am not sure what the longevity will be. The waistband is about what I expect for size M, and the fabric is very soft and comfortable, so i have high hopes, although I doubt anything this soft can outlast the Give-N-Gos, and I don't yet know whether they do as well (or better) with odor control and breathability. Tag & packaging is bad. Boxer is good.
3 August 2022

I received 10 pairs of these recently. In order to remove the tag and packaging I damaged two of them. The tag is extremely big and it makes no sense why in the world they would sew a massive tag into an item that directly contacts the body. This ABSOLUTELY takes the premium product feel out of this item. When I have bought boxers from the company with a dead bird logo they sew in a little piece of fabric between the tag and the boxer to make it easy to remove. That is a premium product. This is not. Of the 10 I received, half of them had a different packaging style that included four separate plastic tags into the boxer. I ended up with holes in two of the boxers while trying to remove these. Tough Love from a Friend

Dear Patagonia,I deliver this message as a friend. I've been a customer for nearly 30 years, and I'll continue to be until they spread my ashes in a non-religious ceremony in my local riparian forest. Now to the tough love; these boxer briefs are too good to be true. They have an amazing cotton feel while wicking moisture *but* these paradoxical fabric qualities make the brief too fragile for your prestigious iron-clad label.I own seven pairs; half are in varying states of decay after roughly a year of wear. The common failure point is the tissue-thin Tencel fabric pulling apart from the rear waistband. You'll no doubt correct course and re-engineer these briefs in a future season, but until then, I might have to send these back.Who returns multiple pairs of ... MoreDear Patagonia,I deliver this message as a friend.
