I live in Seattle. I bought this pack to replace an older one. I love the ability to slip my laptop, lunch and extra rain gear in my bag for work with the ability to fit a full pair of waders and back up layers when I take off to fly fish for the weekend. The material is durable and waterproof protecting my gear in a variety of applications. Very happy with this versatile new addition to my gear set.

I had high hopes for this backpack, but it undelivered overall. I like that it is top-loaded and that it does not use zippers for the main compartment. It is much like the Herschel Little America backpack in that regard. However, the material that the body of the backpack is made out of is very cheap-feeling and thin. I don't have high hopes for its long-term durability. The front zippered pocket also extends upward on the inside, past the zipper. It's weird and I'm not sure how you're supposed to make use of that space. Most importantly, I wasn't able to fit as much in this bag as I could into other 25L backpacks that I own.Regardless, it's still usable. I'm going to use this as a climbing backpack, as I don't really mind if it gets beat up a bit.

I ordered this for a trail and weekend pack. My husband has the patagonia arbor cap and I regretted not getting one. Of course when my old pack broke they no longer made the style he had so my searches led me here. The golden caramel color is gorgeous and will be easily recognizable on a trail, and the space is amazing. Inside has the convenient draw string close system. I do wish it had water bottle pockets on the sides, but honestly with the room it offers water bottle storage won't be an issue.I have yet to take it out but it is very comparable to the arbor cap (it is a little bit larger) and I cannot wait to use it.

The great feature of this pack is how deep the main pocket is. You get lots of room for even the bulkiest jackets or clothes. The only drawbacks I see after using it for a few weeks is the lack of side pockets for water bottle or beverage containers and an inside zipper pocket for a more secure personal item pocket. The inclusion of these forementioned additions would make it more of an everyday pack, which was my intended use.
I like this pack. The straps look like they will last forever, which is my key requirement for a backpack (because the straps seem to go first). The pack doesn't have a lot of padding for my laptop's bottom edge, so I added padding. Otherwise, the life of a laptop computer will be more limited. It's super deep. Love that.
Great overall bag after 6 month of use. Fits well with good weight distribution on the shoulders. Hugs the chest nicely for broader shoulders, no chest strap required. At first I was under the impression that the bag might be too light, lacked back support padding, but it turns out that it helps to avoid unnecessary bulk. The weight economy means that most of the weight will actually be the bag's content.I wish there was a water bottle side, but I understand that it wouldn't help with compressing the bag to a minimum when carrying very little. The adjustable straps help keep tension when maxing out the capacity well. A few months after purchase, water beaded off from light rain fall, so far so good. Spare pockets have been useful, and discrete.I've hiked with the bag and it works well for lighter loads. For 3+ hours hikes, I'd suggest a day pack instead. Works well for biking commuting, walking, laptop, groceries, and travelling/flights. Would not recommend for running, it swings side to side.Although it's light on the padding, I've had no issues with laptop protection. The laptop pocket is slightly raised, so an accidental vertical drop should not be too bad. However don't drop it the sideways. There's some wear on the inside's sides (waterproof coating?), so will keep an eye out for that. The rest of the materials have been durable. Very easy to clean and low maintenance.
I love this bag!! It is great quality and copes with a lot of weight easily. Having had a couple of bags where the zip failed (not this brand) so that they were unusable, I really wanted to avoid zips. This bag uses a drawstring and clips for the main compartment so will hopefully therefore last me for many many years and be easy to repair if I ever need to.It is quite a large bag which is great when you need a lot of kit for a day trip or weekend away etc but the design does look a bit big on my back (I’m 5ft 4in). I love the “happy” colour and overall design so much though that I choose not to care! The pocket in the back is great for keeping things flat and the front and top pockets are really helpful for easy access.
The color was nice however it wasn't very practical. It is a larger than most backpacks which I thought would be good for my travel needs. Unfortunately there are no chest or waist straps to help distribute the weight. It's has a large/deep inside compartment which can hold a lot but nothing to organize the contents. Returned.
I just got a new one of these to replace my old one that has 10 years of very hard wear on it. (Don’t worry: I will use the old bag to make patches.) I love how I can just drop stuff into the pack without dealing with zippers. I don’t need to worry about making sure everything is closed before I go. (I live in Chicago and use public transit a lot.) Also, the simplicity is good for me. I don’t need or want a lot of extra features. Those extra features eventually fall apart anyway. I’ve also used it for camping and it is more than sufficient. My only worry is that it seems like Patagonia is discontinuing this backpack. Is that true Patagonia? Please don’t discontinue this dump and run style backpack.
Ordered the Fieldsmith Pitch Blue. The Straps on the front, and connected shoulder harnesses are blue. Other straps, and the entirety of the interior is PURPLE! I ordered a blue pack, expecting blue, not a very PURPLE pack, with minimal blue straps. Pack seems good quality, decent compartment. Will be returning due to the completely inaccurate color details of this pack.
