I live in NC and own a four of these in the women’s version and wear the heck out of them when the weather dips down. Two I’ve had for over 8 years, the other two within the last 3. So when my high school son wanted flannel shirts I knew exactly which brand to go to. I bought him the Obsidian Plum, Guide Green, and Superior Blue. Beautiful rich colors, nice thick weight and a softness that you expect in flannel. Fit and sleeve length is true to size. Even after multiple washings they never don’t and look and feel exactly as the first day I bought them. The material holds up to his Scout adventures, camping and rough housing while still looking great over the matching Patagonia Henleys for school. The price is on the high side, it’s really good quality flannel after all (but not as high as some other popular brands that loose their color, shrink or fall apart in a year). These really will hold up and last you for many years. Nobody does flannel better than Patagonia IMO. If you are looking for a less expensive alternative, I have found REI brand makes their Wallace lake version which is a very good option and the closest to Patagonia that I have found.

This is a great shirt, a little bit thicker and warmer than many plaid shirts, a real working flannel, perfect here in the Pacific Northwest.Cotton breathes well and has a nice soft hand, which hopefully does not impact longevity. The fit is fantastic for me, it might be old-school -- fits very true to size and has actually long enough sleeves, hard to find! Not a super-slim fashion fit; looks very sharp.I'm 5'11" and wear a 14.5 shirt with 33.5" sleeves, size Small fits great. Also tried on the Medium, the difference wasn't too much but it had more room in the body. Many companies I have the problem where either the torso and shoulders fit, but the sleeves are too short and the hem rides up, or I'm just swimming in it.Last thing, there are a few different items ... Patagonia definitely changed the fit on these shirts. I have two others from a few years ago that are more boxy and roomy, but this version has a more athletic cut. Overall, I think it's a better look, but it definitely feels different wearing this one. I'm 5'11" and 175lbs. I'm a size medium in most things, so that's what I got with this shirt. The upper torso of this shirt is a bit snug and the buttons there pull a bit more than I'd like, but I still kept the shirt. The fabric is nice and comfy and the colors are great!

Definitely proving how subjective reviews are; most other low-star reviews complain about sizing changes, which I haven't noticed at all. Fit the same as ones I've been buying since 2018 or so. Patterns, colors, and stitching are all great, as usual. What made me return mine was the thickness of the fabric; the older ones I've had/worn hundreds of times by now are about twice as thick as the current midweight flannels Patagonia sells. I love these as a substantial layer, but they become far less warm and durable when they're about as thin as a standard shirt.Figured I'd found my default flannel for life here, but poor quality has me looking at other options.
My favourite alltime clothing items are my Patagonia midweight Flannel shirts. I recently took the opportunity to add another midweight flannel to my wardrobe. Now i have a lot of Patagonia clothing over many years and i have my sizing pretty sorted taking an XL in everything from wetsuits to t-shirts, fleeze, down, shirts etc. Unfortunately my latest XL shirt fitted more like a large or maybe an XL business shirt and was centremetres different in size from my other similar shirts. This unfortunately seems to occur periodically when manufacturing moves between China and Vietnam and vice versa. Fortunately Patagonia Australia have an excellent returns system and within a week I had a replacement XXL shirt which fits just like my usual XL shirts. Nice shirt, beautiful ... This shirt is not a "relaxed fit" as Patagonia advertises! My wife bought 2 of these shirts for me. I wear a size Large in several different manufacturer's brands. My 10yr old Patagonia flannel shirts are Large and still fit. The patagonia website says these are a "relaxed fit"-they are too tight across my chest and shoulders and really should be classed as a slim fit. We returned the shirts and I've purchased another brand-in large-for a 1/3 the price that fit "relaxed". Really disappointed in this Patagonia product, I expected better.
Ive been buying Patagonia Fjord flannels for over ten years. I still have most of them and am greatly for well made items that fit well and stand the test of time. In a world where big men with long arms dont fit the mold when it comes to buying articles of clothing I felt like I found my brand. But, this most recent purchase left quite the disappointment the fit is incredibly tight and barely buttons up and the sleeves are much shorter? Mind you I had thought it would compare to all the others but not even close. Please consider going back to normalsizing and not making everything slim fit. Some of us dont have many options left.
I purchased a similar flannel shirt, light classic Patagonia jacket, and snow coat 13 years ago. The jacket and snow coat are still going strong! The flannel finally started to show wear at fold in collar. I love these!I am a very low wage worker, so these are big purchases for me. I do understand quality and value. I admit that the same day I purchased this shirt, I did get 3 cheap flannels from Walmart for work. They will probably only last 1-2 years (tops). At some point, I will stop buying disposable clothing and stick with quality of clothing like Patagonia. Some high end clothing are just a premium for brand name. My experience is that Patagonia is a true value in comfort, quality, craftsmanship, and materials.
Flannel shirts are a dime a dozen. Everyone and their cousin makes 'em and seems like everyone wears 'em. But they are all chasing Patagonia's. Organic cotton for starters- softer and somehow more durable at the same time, not to mention the huge environmental positives of organic farming. And I recall the risk Patagonia took in about 1996 when they committed to everything organic. Amazing stand for the planet! But back to these flannels- perfect weight for all 3 season use, designs and colors are awesome, pockets perfect. I get plenty of compliments not only on this one, but all the others. Then there's the customer service- friendly, easy returns, 100% guaranteed. They likely cost a little more but last much longer and are easily worth it given all the above.
I have a few of these at this point and they never disappoint. Just pure lush organic cotton flannel goodness.Great for everyday wear or as a cozy overshirt. More comfy, and way more odour resistant than the poly-cotton alternatives that seem more common these days. These will hold a bit more moisture if you overheat but this is a casual everyday piece, not a tech layer.Fit is a standard patagonia regular fit. Just a little extra room to throw a heavier weight baselayer under neath if you want, but not too bulky with just a basic T. Fabric weight is on the heavier/warmer side but doesn't feel unnecessarily bulky.Highly recommended as a piece of your everyday cooler weather kit!Only complaint is MEC seems to get the far less exciting plaids compared ti the ...
